A crowd of 146 people filled the upper level of the library where Lag etertaied them all with his jugglig feats ad humor. Some boys ad girls eve had a chace to become part of the act. The death of a columist would ot ormally garer the attetio of this colum, but Charles Krauthammer was a ma worthy of our attetio. There is much about this outstadig ma that oe could write, but two thigs are of special iterest to me. First of all, I admire his determiatio to stay the course. The Charles Krauthammer story begis with a divig accidet he had whe he was 22 ad a first-year medical studet at Harvard Medical School. The accidet left him paralyzed from the waist dow. He could have withdraw ito self-pity ad dropped out, but he ever gave up. He refused to use his hadicap as a excuse to derail the active life he had plaed. To him, a hadicap was o excuse for mediocrity. Better to be paralyzed from the eck dow, he would go o to write, tha from the eck up. Although bedridde for some 14 moths, he was determied to fiish his medical studies. Accordigly, he had a clear plastic form erected over his bed o which a book could be placed face-dow so that he could read. He retured to Harvard ad graduated to become a residet i psychiatry at Massachusetts Geeral Hospital. But Psychiatry was ot as fulfillig as he had hoped, so he tured to the world of ideas ad words. As a writer, it is the secod thig about him that garers my admiratio. I a Fox News special i 2013, he oted that, if you re goig to leave the medical professio because you thik you have somethig to say, you betray your whole life if you do t say what you thik ad if you do t say it hoestly ad blutly (CBS News, New York, Jue 21, 2018). He bega work at The New Republic as columist ad editor the year Roald Rega became presidet. He had foud his place i life, evetually becomig a outstadig voice for coservative ideas. (Maher) Beaulieu, 77, a logtime residet of Northfield, died Wedesday, Jue 27, 2018 at the Golde Crest i Frakli followig a short illess, with family at her side. Priscilla was bor i Lowell, Mass., Oct. 4, 1940, daughter of the late Wilfred Babe ad Lucy (Desrosiers) Maher. Her parets moved to Northfield i 1947, where she was raised. She lived there for all of her life ad was a graduate of the Tilto-Northfield High School, class of She married her late husbad, Rolad i Over the years, Priscilla was employed as a bookkeeper ad treasurer for the Credit Uio of the Arwood Corp. i Northfield where she worked for over 25 years. Priscilla babysat area childre at her home for several years. She ad her late husbad, Rolad, purchased a ambulace from a local fueral home, offerig service util his death i She became a EMT ad worked i ambulace service, ower of Twi Rivers Ambulace Service, util She was active withi her church ad also served as treasurer i Northfield ad Clerk-Treasurer for the Tilto-Northfield Fire Priscilla Paulie Beaulieu, 77 PRISCILLA BEAULIEU Departmet for may years. Kevi Pluskis, a assistat coach for Belmot High School s baseball team, is the guy oe will see at oppoets games takig otes ad also givig pep talks i the dugout. For that reaso amog others, Pluskis was amed Divisio 3 Assistat Coach of the Year for the secod time i three years. It is quite the hoor to be amed agai, Pluskis said. I would have liked to have had the guys go a little further this year, ad last year, but it was a successful seaso ad I could t be more proud. The Red Raiders had a 14-3 regular seaso ad wet ito the playoffs as the umber three seed. Belmot beat Fall Moutai i the opeig roud but the fell to Newport i the quarterfials. Pluskis said it was a joy to coach the players this seaso, which icluded his so Matt Pluskis, who fiished his seior year ad will be headig to Wichita State with hopes of playig college baseball ext seaso. This was a whole differet team from the previous year, ad it was great to see the kids workig from day oe i the gym ad doig what they could whe we could t get outside because of sow o the field, said coach Pluskis. The kids worked so hard. They are such a great buch of kids. It makes it worthwhile goig i every day. There are t ay attitudes or aythig. Pluskis said this year s Belmot baseball team had a team attitude ad he ever oce heard someoe beig selfish or lookig out for aythig other tha the team as a whole. Pluskis said the hoor of Assistat Coach of the Year goes out to the players ad the rest of the coachig staff, as well. He said he was proud to be recogized oce agai, as he wo the award two years ago. It does mea a lot with peers recogizig me, Pluskis. But I ejoy this a lot. I get to scout each team we play ad break them dow, fid out their stregths ad take the stregths away whe we play them. Pluskis has bee coachig i some capacity for more tha 25 years ad he said baseball is somethig he eats, breathes ad sleeps. He played college baseball at Newma Uiversity i Kasas. You kow how good you ve doe whe you see the kids graduate ad you see what kid of perso they ve become, Pluskis said. This is lifelog with these kids. They get i your heart. Pluskis said coachig his so has bee a great experiece as well, although he said o the diamod they have a coach/player relatioship. It is really special with the extra time with him, but he is aother player whe out o the field, said Pluskis. It is a great thig to have coached Matt sice secod grade ad through the middle school years. Matt is so coachable so it makes it easy. It s ot always the case. I ll miss it. The Lakes Regio team wo the first match 3-0 agaist Souther o Jue 21, but the lost both matches o Friday, 3-2 to Moadock ad 3-1 to Coastal. The coaches aroud Divisio 3 recogized this ad amed each player to the All-State team. Juior Griffi Embree was the ruer up for player of the year ad was oe of the top pitchers i Divisio 3. The ace southpaw had a 8-2 record with a ERA ad 102 strikeouts i 61 ad two third iigs. He allowed oly 31 hits ad six rus all seaso. His strikeout total was a Belmot High School record. Embree was just as good at the plate where he hit.420 i the umber two spot. He BOB MARTIN had a.606 o base percetage, four doubles, a triple, 17 walks, 16 RBIs ad 22 rus. The Lakes team had wo the previous two titles, but the chace at a three peat was thwarted by a solid Coastal team. The quest for a three-peat was derailed by a very good Coastal defese led by Wiacuet s goalie Nikki Tredwell, who did t give up a goal i the total touramet ad was the MVP, said coach Dave Rogacki, who is also the field hockey coach at Gilford High School. After Lakes beat Souther 4-0 to ed pool play, Coastal shut out Lakes 4-0 i the champioship game. Wiisquam s Madiso House had a goal i the first game, which was a 5-1 victory over Moadock. Gilford s Briaa Salaitro scored o a goal assist- B3 ed by fellow Golde Eagle Jillia Lachapelle o Jue 26. Kellie Rya, also of Gilford, had two goals ad two assists. The 16U Nor Easter softball team had a tough weeked at the Summer Sizzler, which wet from Jue 23 to 24, but coach Becky Beaulac was happy with the way the team fiished out the touramet. Jade LaSalle of Iter-Lakes pitched for the Nor Easters agaist the Kigdom Khaos ad allowed oly three rus over five iigs. However, the Khaos got the bats goig agaist the relievers ad eded up beatig the Nor Easters LaSalle wet oe for two with a sigle i the game. The secod game was a tight 5-4 loss to the Northeast Extreme. LaSalle batted but did ot play i the field ad wet hitless i two at bats. Kelsey Trudeau of Belmot High School played right field ad played solid defese despite goig hitless i the game. The third game was a 6-3 loss to the Cocord Lady Caos.
