Charlie Boyd of Mayslick, Ky.; Scott Foster of Niles, Mich.; ad Vaugh Meyer of Reva, S.D., are seekig a secod three-year term o the Board. Tom Burke, Smithville, Mo.; Kathi Creamer of Motrose, Colo.; Curtis Log, Butler, Mo.; Jimmy Goode of Pampa, Texas; Philip Howell, Wichester, Id.; Do Schiefelbei, Kimball, Mi.; ad Craig Vejraska, Omak, Wash., are each seekig electio to their first three-year term. The delegates preseted begiig o page 52 will elect five directors, a presidet ad chairma of the board, ad a vice presidet ad vice chairma of the Board, as well as vote o ay bylaws amedmets that may be preseted at the Associatio s 129th Aual Covetio of Delegates. The covetio will covee Moday, Nov. 12, i Louisville i cojuctio with the North America Iteratioal Livestock Expositio (NAILE). See page 36 for a schedule of Agus activities. Charlie Boyd II Charlie Boyd II is drive by the Agus breed, its members ad fellow cattleme who make their livig utilizig Agus geetics. Charlie s sos represet the fifth geeratio of the Boyd family to be ivolved i the cattle busiess, ad their future ivolvemet fuels his desire to help keep the breed i the forefrot of Charlie Boyd II the idustry. For more tha 100 years, Charlie s family has bred cattle that have had a positive effect o the idustry, ad he plas to cotiue that commitmet to the Agus breed ad the cattle idustry. His family s ivolvemet with cattle bega i 1893 as Highview Hereford Farm. His great-gradfather ad gradfather exhibited six Chicago Iteratioal grad champios. As a sophomore i high school, Charlie purchased his first Agus female from Bill Coley Sr. at Gibbett Hill Farm. Today, Boyd 40 ANGUSJoural Beef Cattle icludes a Agus ad a Hereford program, ad is home to may atioal champios. Charlie s passio for Agus cattle ad studyig of pedigrees has produced 18 bulls erolled i major artificial isemiatio (AI) studs. Boyd Beef Cattle is a family-owed operatio maaged by Charlie; his wife, Paula; two sos, Blake ad Loga; ad Charlie s parets. The operatio hosts two productio sales each year, from which they derive 100% of the family s icome for the farm. I 1987, Charlie graduated from the Uiversity of Ketucky (UK) with a bachelor s degree i agriculture ecoomics. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraterity ad served as vice oble ruler. Charlie served as agriculture seator to the studet body ad was the agriculture studet body presidet. He also served as a member of the UK Livestock Judgig Team ad was high idividual at several cotests. Charlie has served fellow cattleme at local, state ad atioal levels. As a member of the Maso Couty Livestock Improvemet Associatio ad the Maso Couty Cattleme s Associatio, he has worked closely with similar family-ru cattle operatios. Both sos are active i the local 4-H program, ad Charlie ad Paula strive to improve ad expad learig opportuities available through their 4-H chapter. Charlie has served as presidet of the Ketucky Agus Associatio, ad i 2003 ad 2012, he ad Paula served as co-chairs of the Natioal Juior Agus Show (NJAS). The Boyds were hoored by the Ketucky Agus Associatio as Ketucky Agus Family of the Year i 2004 ad as Performace Breeders of the Year i Charlie has evaluated may breeds of cattle at the atioal level ad has served as judge at the NJAS, the Natioal Wester Stock Show (NWSS), the North America Iteratioal Livestock Expositio (NAILE), the Atlatic Natioal ad The All-America Agus Breeders Futurity. Charlie is a member of Mays Lick Christia Church, where he serves as deaco ad a director o the church board. My beliefs regardig the future of our Agus breed are simple we must cotiue to build o our ext geeratio of Agus breeders through our juior program ad the Agus Foudatio, ad ot lose sight of how valuable each ad every member of our Associatio is, regardless of their size, Charlie says. Durig his first three years o the Associatio Board, Charlie served o the Breed Improvemet, Activities (two years), Fiace & Plaig, Idustry Relatios ad Member & Affiliate Services committees, as well as o the Agus Foudatio (two years), Agus Geetics Ic. (AGI) ad Agus Productios Ic. (API) boards. He also chaired API s Iteret Auctio Committee, which oversaw creatio of the Agus Tradig Post. We must cotiue to build our future leaders by cotiually expadig ad buildig the Natioal Juior Agus Associatio (NJAA) by costatly recruitig youg Agus breeders to be active, Charlie says. We must also focus o small breeder retetio, as well as recruitmet of ew Agus breeders, Charlie adds. Our predecessors have worked diligetly to make Agus a household ame, ad through their past ivestmet i our brad, we eed to attract ew breeders ito the busiess. As part of a family-owed ad -operated cattle operatio, Charlie says his family feels the struggles ad challeges all cattleme are faced with i today s world. He believes the challeges facig the Agus breed should be met with courage ad focus. With careful thought ad strategy, we must cotiue to develop guidelies relatig to geetic issues that are based o soud ad ratioal priciples ad by utilizatio of available sciece. The Agus breed will cotiue to be the leader i the beef idustry based o the stregth of its membership, valuable database, strog juior program ad CAB (Certified Agus Beef ), he says. Now, more tha ever, our breed ad fellow Associatio members eed solid leadership ad visio. We eed to be lookig for ew programs ad ways to improve existig programs to beefit members cotiually ehacig the tools i the toolbox to give members what they eed to advace this breed, he says. 2 Tom Burke Tom Burke has declared his cadidacy because of his love, dedicatio ad devotio to the Agus breed. A fourth-geeratio Agus breeder, Tom s greatgradfather used registered Agus bulls i the late 1800s. His gradfather, father ad ucle were all registered Agus breeders. Today, Tom is a ower of the Tom Burke origial Burke Farm located i southeaster Miesota. The farm was homesteaded 127 years ago ad is recogized as oe of Miesota s Cetury Farms. At the age of 16, Tom cast his first vote as a delegate to the America Agus Associatio aual meetig. He has served as a delegate may years sice. A charter member of the Miesota Juior Agus Associatio, Tom was elected the orgaizatio s first presidet i 1960 ad served three cosecutive terms. He ad his twi brother, Toy, were amed FFA State Star Farmers of Miesota, ad Tom was elected Miesota FFA vice presidet i I 1963, he was elected presidet of the Miesota 4-H Federatio. After completig his military obligatio, Tom joied the Drovers Joural. He served as fieldma for two years i the 12 southeaster states. I the 1960s, Tom joied the staff of J.B. McCorkle, a atioal Agus sale maagemet firm i Smithville, Mo. He cotiued the sale maagemet busiess after McCorkle s death. Tom served o the Missouri Agus Associatio board of directors i , as vice presidet i 1973 ad He was a chairma of the associatio s state show ad sale i I 1972, the Missouri Juior Agus Associatio recogized him as its Ma of the Year. He is oe of the five origial lifetime members of the Missouri Cattleme s Associatio. Tom was elected chairma of The AllAmerica Agus Breeders Futurity i 1972, ad cotiues i that role. I 1974, he was appoited to the board of the Iteratioal Livestock Show i Chicago, Ill. He is a charter member of the Atlatic Natioal Agus Show, servig o the board of trustees sice the show s iceptio i Tom was the official aoucer for all 26 Atlatic Natioals. The 1993, 1996 ad 2007 shows were dedicated to him. Tom has bee a Agus sale maager for more tha 45 years, averagig more tha 175 registered Agus sales per year. He has coducted Agus sales i 47 states, six provices of Caada ad the Caribbea. He takes great pride i maagig ad coductig Agus sales of all types ad sizes, ad he treasures the lifelog friedships he has made. I 1994, he was recogized as Marketeer of the Year durig the NWSS i Dever, Colo. Tom has addressed Agus field days i more tha 35 states ad five Caadia provices. He has traveled extesively iteratioally o behalf of the Agus breed. I 1993, USA Today recogized him as oe of the 25 most traveled people i America. For 20 cosecutive years, Tom was hoored by the America Agus Associatio as Promoter of the Year. Durig that period, he recruited more tha 1,000 adult ad juior members. O umerous occasios, the Auxiliary has hoored Tom for his work o its behalf. He has bee the logest-servig judge of the Auxiliary-sposored All-America Certified Agus Beef (CAB ) Cook-Off. Tom has atteded all 46 Natioal Juior Showmaship Cotests coducted from 1967 to 2012, as well as all 44 Natioal Juior Agus Shows hosted betwee 1969 ad 2012, servig as a aoucer or master of ceremoies at several of these evets. His daughter, Carme; so-i-law, Jake; ad three gradchildre, Jett, Miles ad Blair, are all members of the America Agus Associatio ad reside o the Burke Family Farm at Platte City, Mo. Tom is a member of the Holy Triity Catholic Church i Westo, Mo. He travels 340 days a year o behalf of the Agus breed. His life is Agus cattle. Kathi Creamer The Wester States Agus Associatio Board of Directors has uaimously edorsed Kathi Creamer, Motrose, Colo., as a cadidate for the America Agus Associatio Board of Directors. Kathi ad her husbad, Jeff, ad parets, Richard ad Elaie Biella, ow ad operate Lazy JB Agus Rach o the wester slope of Colorado. The Creamers have two childre, Brado ad Britey, who are actively ivolved i the cattle operatio. Kathi Creamer Kathi s roots i the livestock idustry trace back four geeratios to the small farmig ad commercial cattle operatio developed by her great-gradfather Joh Biella. The first Agus female to carry the Lazy JB brad was a Christmas preset from Joh s so, Frak Biella, to his so, Richard. Fourtee years later the traditio was carried o whe Richard preseted Kathi her first Agus heifer as a 4-H project. This project led to a passio for Agus cattle ad the developmet of a registered Agus herd. Kathi atteded the Uiversity of Colorado ad received her bachelor s degree i elemetary educatio i After graduatio she was employed as a elemetary teacher i the Boulder Valley School System for 20 years before retirig. She was awarded several grats ad recogized as oe of Colorado s outstadig sciece teachers durig her teachig career. Kathi served as the executive secretary of the Colorado Agus Associatio (CAA) i It was through her ivolvemet i Agus activities that she met her future husbad. I 1998 Kathi retired from teachig. I 2001 the CAA recogized the Creamers as Agus Promoters of the Year, ad i 2010 they were amed the Wester Natioal Agus Futurity Herdsma of the Year. They were Colorado Juior Agus Associatio advisors for ie years. They served as co-chairs of the 2010 NJAS, ad Kathi served as secretary of the 2005 NJAS ad o umerous committees for these shows. Jeff has served o the Motrose Couty Fair Board ad curretly helps with the Motrose Couty 4-H Sale. Kathi ad her family host umerous cattle care ad showig cliics for youth o the wester slope. They share a strog commitmet to youth ad agriculture. Their childre were actively ivolved i state ad atioal juior Agus associatios. Brado, 25, served as vice chairma of the NJAA Board i He received his bachelor s degree i aimal sciece from Colorado State Uiversity (CSU) ad is employed by the CSU Extesio Service as a couty aget. Britey, 23, served as chairma of the NJAA Board i 2011 ad wo the Natioal Juior Agus Showmaship Cotest i She received her bachelor s degree i agricultural ecoomics, iteratioal 42 ANGUSJoural marketig ad Spaish from Oklahoma State Uiversity (OSU). She is workig o her master s i iteratioal agriculture at OSU. The stregth of the Agus breed ad the programs ad resources it offers has provided me with tools to develop a successful operatio, Kathi says. Scott Foster The Michiga Agus Associatio uaimously edorses Scott Foster for re-electio to the America Agus Associatio Board of Directors. Scott grew up o his family farm ear Niles, Mich. He atteded Niles High School, graduatig i While i high school, Scott served as juior class presidet ad seior class vice presidet. He also participated Scott Foster i FFA, servig as a state presidet for Michiga i 1977 ad was ruer-up Star State Farmer. After graduatio from high school, Scott atteded Southwester Michiga College for two years, where he received a associate i sciece degree. He trasferred to Michiga State Uiversity (MSU), graduatig with a bachelor s degree i aimal husbadry. Scott married his wife, Elaie, i September They have two childre: Adrew, 26, ad Daielle, 23. Both childre have bee actively ivolved i the NJAA at both the state ad atioal levels. Adrew atteded Oklahoma State Uiversity (OSU) ad graduated i 2010 with a bachelor s degree i aimal sciece. He was a member of the livestock judgig team at OSU. Adrew was also a member of the NJAA Board ad served as vice chairma. He curretly is a parter i Seldom Rest Farms. Daielle atteded the Uiversity of Michiga ad graduated i 2011 with a bachelor s degree i commuicatio. She served as the 2008 Miss America Agus ad o the NJAA Board as the leadership chairma. Daielle curretly works for Certified Agus Beef LLC (CAB) i Wooster, Ohio, ad is pursuig her master s i busiess admiistratio (MBA) at Kapla Uiversity. Scott raises registered Agus cattle ad farms with his brother, Bruce, ad so, Adrew. The farmig operatio cosists of approximately 3,000 acres of cor ad soybeas throughout lower southwester Michiga. Jimmy Goode The Texas Agus Associatio uaimously edorses Jimmy Goode as a cadidate for the America Agus Associatio Board of Directors. Jimmy ad his wife, Gleette, ow ad operate Goode Agus i the Texas Pahadle, ear Pampa. They have oe so, Jeremy, curretly helpig i the Jimmy Goode operatio, with daughter-i-law Liaa ad gradso Rolad, who will be 1 i. Origially from Beaumot, Jimmy graduated high school i He immediately atteded Fire School ad became the yougest firema i the history of the Beaumot Fire Departmet. Jimmy met Gleette i 1977, whe he wet to work for her part-time while workig at the fire departmet. Seve years later they were married. Jimmy has always bee iterested i busiess. He opeed his ow highperformace auto parts store while with the fire departmet ad later moved to Moroe, La., to help maage a auto parts warehouse. I 1984, Jimmy ad Gleette retured to her family rach, which was homesteaded i the early 1900s. They helped with whatever eeded to be doe the commercial cattle operatio, the small oil productio compay, remodelig her parets house, etc. They did all the costructio of their ow home o the family property. Whe Gleette s dad was killed i 1997, Jimmy cotiued maagig the commercial herd as his father-i-law had doe for two years. With the ormal limitig capacity (30 acres per head) of lad available, he wated to add value to the cow herd, ad he first bought Agus bulls. Jimmy researched differet registered breeds of cattle ad atteded as may sales ad meetigs as possible. Durig that time he had the opportuity to meet Joh Crouch at Miie Lou Bradley s B3R sale. Both Crouch ad Bradley iflueced his decisio to choose Agus. After that visit ad uderstadig more of what the Agus breed offered (ot oly the Agus cow but also the iformatio that the Associatio provided its members), his decisio was made. Jimmy sold the 75 commercial cows ad bought 39 registered three-i-oes i Havig a better uderstadig of his market, i 2003 Jimmy committed to 100% AI ad itroduced ET to the program. Today they are 50% AI, 50% ET, ad the herd comprises 400 mother cows marks the sixth year of the Prime by Desig Female Productio Sale with sale parter 2 Bar Agus of Hereford, Texas. Jimmy was elected to the Texas Agus Associatio (TAA) board i 2004, served as presidet i 2009, ad has served o the board cotiuously sice first elected. Jimmy itroduced ad developed Fid-A-Bull to the TAA website. With Texas beig so large geographically, its purpose was to help coect commercial breeders to particularly small-scale registered breeders by simply clickig o a map. He also served two terms as presidet of the Greater West Texas Agus Associatio. Jimmy has served as a delegate to the America Agus Associatio aual meetig for six years. With the ogoig drought coditios ad the ecoomic challeges we face, Jimmy feels it s eve more importat to make good busiess decisios, ad he would like to be part of those decisios for the America Agus Associatio.
