We wat to make this a welcomig place where people ca come ad work out. The importat part is, it eeds to be fu but it eeds to be effective, too, said Jamie Dolpies. The Dolpies have bee ivolved i fitess ad dace for may years. Jamie grew up i the New York City area, ad besides her extesive professioal backgroud i dace, she taught fitess classes locally at Creative Steps i Frakli prior to opeig All I Fitess. Her husbad Mike has dedicated himself to martial arts, Tae Kwo Do ad kickboxig for most of his life. Betwee the two of them, Jaime said their ew studio has a lot to offer. I order to meet their goal of combiig fu with fitess, she has put together a umber of programs from Zumba, Zumba Kids ad Zumba toig to classes like CardioKick, Body Shapig, Core Ball Build, Boot Camp, ad Abs, Butts ad Thighs. Classes icorporate differet meas of stregtheig ad toig the body. Through the each class she uses a variety of methods that ca iclude the use of weights, exercise balls ad bads, or simply just a umber of fu yet effective moves. The idea, she said, is to challege differet muscle groups, but ot all at the same time. Sice opeig the fitess ceter last moth, Dolpies said she has already received a lot of very positive feedback o a ew dace fitess style she herself developed, called Salsatude. The idea for the class came to her through several years as a member of a professioal salsa dace team that traveled the world ad eve performed for the Lati Grammy Awards. Charles Charlie LaPierre, a logtime Cocord residet who served his coutry durig World War II ad spet may years o the Cocord Police Departmet, is curretly the oldest residet of the New Hampshire Veteras Home. He will tur 100 o Nov. 30. LaPierre was hoored with a special party at the Veteras Home, icludig a visit by several curret members of the Cocord Police Departmet who delivered a letter of cogratulatios from Gov. Maggie Hassa ad a special licese plate umbered 100, which was siged by Hassa. Every year Deidre ad her group of dedicated family members ad frieds have orgaized ad hosted the evet at the DeBrae Golf Course i Saborto. Icludig the proceeds of this year s touramet, Deidre has raised over 40,000 beefitig the Alzheimer s Associatio. McCai s impressive efforts eve eared her recogitio i 2011 from the Alzheimer s Associatio for the Myer Saxe Award, which highlights i idividual who has made a outstadig fiacial cotributio to the missio through persoal actios. Stephe Warre, co-captai of the Lacoia Corps of the Salvatio Army, said the Turkey Pluge is becomig the Corps secod biggest fudraiser ext to the red kettles. Our Turkey Pluge kid of kicks off our red kettle efforts, Warre said. Betwee the two it s a major effort for the Salvatio Army. The evet is orgaized by a special committee, who usually takes four to five moths to pla for the pluge. Warre was oe of this year s Lead Plugers, the group that took that first dip of the evet. I had told Stewart that I was thikig about ruig for the U.S. Cogress ad eeded some advice. Lamprey said, I will itroduce you to my fried, Ray Burto. He was recetly elected to the Executive Coucil, has good political isticts ad loves public service. I will ever forget that first meetig with Ray, ad what he said to me. Bob, there is oly oe reaso to ru. You must have a iheret desire to serve your fellow citizes. Aythig less is uacceptable. Do ot seek office for persoal gai, self aggradizemet, moey, or power. I ever forgot those words, ad over a 18-year political career, I tried to follow that model. Public service is a trust ad a hoor ad o oe I have ever met i politics has come close to the example of Ray Burto, i his hard work, commitmet ad dedicatio to those for whom he served. But for oe brief iterruptio, Ray Burto served as the Executive Coucilor for the North Coutry of New Hampshire for 35 years, from 1977 util his recet ad utimely death this moth. That legth of service speaks legios about the kid of perso he was. Ray did ot care if you were liberal or coservative, Republica or Democrat, studet or teacher, busiess ower or employee, or rich or poor. 6 A6 November 28, 2013 OUR LOCAL SCHOOLS Echoes of Excellece STUDENT OF THE WEEK BY DONNA RHODES Meaga Bailey Belmot High School Aythig that keeps me goig, keeps me active, is what Belmot High School seior Mega Bailey says fills her days, ad she has certaily remaied active ad o top at may levels. Bailey is curretly raked i the Top 5 at BHS, ad is a member of both the Natioal Hoor Society ad the Natioal Eglish Hoor Society. She was vice presidet of her class last year, ad played saxophoe i the school bad for a little over two years. She is also very ivolved i school athletics, ad had her best year ever as a setter for the volleyball team this past fall whe she carved her ame ito the BHS record books. I a game agaist Iter-Lakes, we were losig whe I broke the record (of 1,209), she said. That brought us all up agai ad we came back to wi the game. It was great! The previous record was set i By seaso s ed, Bailey racked up a total of 1,337 assists, a umber that is ow the ew mark to beat i Belmot. Bailey said that volleyball is her passio ad besides iter-scholastic play; she is a member of a Juior Olympics volleyball team. For two years, she played throughout orther New Eglad o a team based i Cocord but this witer she is movig o to a bigger club that will take her as far away as New York ad Pesylvaia to compete. I really hope to play i college, i adult leagues, ad aywhere else I ca all my life, said Bailey. Next sprig, she will head to the ball field for her fial year o the BHS softball team, where she plays secod base. She said her passio for softball is a close secod to volleyball, ad last year, she was captai of the team, as well as their lead-off hitter. I love my team ad I love my coach. It s a team sport, but it s also about a lot of idividual effort ad last year everythig just came together for me, she said. A iterest i sports has led Bailey to a role o the Studet Athletic Leadership Team, which promotes sportsmaship ad commuity service at BHS. A member sice her sophomore year, she said oe major project for SALT this year will be a fud raiser for wouded soldiers. They also hope to gather a group to atted a welcome home ceremoy for military troops. Aother big udertakig is her seior project where she is workig to brig Uified Sports to BHS. Uified Sports is a program to parter school athletes with studets who have disabilities that keep them from participatig o other teams. I had heard about Uified Sports, but did t kow a lot about it. I dove ito it though ad the more I ve leared, the more I love this program, she said. I love the social iclusio i how sports brigs people together. The stories I ve read about it have brought tears to my eyes. Bailey said she hopes that by brigig a Uified Sports basketball program to BHS it will cotiue to grow ad be a part of the school ad commuity for years to come. Next fall she is off to college where she will major i Occupatioal Therapy. She said OT caught her eye as a way she ca make a differece i people s lives. I love kowig that if someoe has a car accidet, for istace, ad ca t go about their ormal life, I d be able to help them lear how to support themselves ad their way of livig, said Bailey. Aother attractio to the professio is that she ca take it i may directios, whether it be workig with the elderly, disabled adults or childre. She is applyig to several differet schools i her search to fid oe that will accommodate both her academic goals ad her drive to cotiue playig volleyball.
