He was omiated for the award by two educators i the Shaker Regioal School District who felt his hard work ad commitmet to doig his best every day deserved the special recogitio. Josh has Dows Sydrome, but that has ever really bee a issue for him persoally. I fact, due to his coditio, he probably works harder, tries more ad smiles broader tha most youg me his age, ad that smile, which ca sometimes become a sly gri, is defiitely cotagious. Sue Lavi was assiged as Josh s oeo-oe aide i April of 2013, whe his former aide moved to aother school district. Lavi, who was istrumetal i the omiatio for this year s Champio Child Award, said their esuig relatioship has defiitely chaged her life for the better. The first day I met Josh, he was so polite ad friedly. His charmig gri made me smile, Lavi wrote to the coucil. He has taught me to look at thigs more positively, to take the time to show people you care, just by givig his military salute durig the Pledge of Allegiace or [through the high five he gives his frieds] i the hallways at school. That charm, affable attitude ad respect for others is also topped off with other qualities Josh exhibits o a daily basis. Sice its early begiigs i a additio off a old farmhouse i Saborto, the school moved i 2001 to a more spacious facility where it has cotiued to grow over the years. Teacher Heather Youg said she first bega teachig at the school years ago whe her so was a studet at Red Oak Motessori School ad is pleased to be teachig there oce agai. Youg said she ejoys the family atmosphere of the school ad the way i which the childre are ot oly able to accelerate i their learig skills but be reiforced i ay other areas as eeded.
