The fifth aual Pub Maia got uderway Thursday morig, beefitig the WLNH Childre s Auctio. For 24 hours, a member of each of the 30 teams took turs sittig at a barstool startig at 9 a.m. ad ruig through 9 a.m. o Friday. With 24 people per team, aroud 720 people took part i this year s evet. Pub Maia was ispired by the Lacoia Athletic ad Swim Club s Cycle Maia; istead of ridig a statioary bike, participats sat at a barstool. Each of the teams raised moey for the Childre s Auctio ad doatios were accepted throughout the evet. Pub Maia kicked off at 9 a.m. o Thursday with a proclamatio of Pub Maia Day by Lacoia Mayor Mike Seymour. Throughout the day, Patrick s offered food ad o-alcoholic beverages for free to participats. The evet saw may fu activities for the Culiary Athletes, icludig music ad games throughout the late eveig. A umber of musicias played at the frot of the room with differet acts o every two hours for a 14-hour period. Beetle said each of the musicias played for free for the evet. Participats could also do karaoke with DJ Jaso, arts ad crafts, a talet cotest, ad Barstool Yoga with Lori Oakley of the Lacoia Athletic ad Swim Club amog other fu activities. Pub Maia also accepted doatios for operishable food for a local food patry. Aroud 4,500 food items were collected for the food patry at St. Vicet de Paul i Lacoia. Beetle said he does ot Tilto awarded CDFA grat fuds Fuds will pay for feasibility studies for job creatio, public facilities improvemets TILTON The New Hampshire Commuity Developmet Fiace Authority (CDFA) has approved awards to fud five plaig grats for commuity developmet projects aroud the state. The feasibility studies, fuded by the federal Commuity Developmet Block Grat program, will allow local officials to assess the likelihood of success for these job creatio ad public facilities efforts. Plaig grats are iteded to offset ay cost to local taxpayers for coductig feasibility studies for potetial Commuity Developmet Block Grat projects, said Kevi Fly, Commuicatios Director for CDFA. These iclude activities from market or icome surveys to egieerig evaluatios of failig ifrastructure. The plaig grats approved iclude 12,000 to the Tow of Tilto to explore the feasibility of addig te ew maufactured homes at the Gaslight Village Cooperative. The study will also examie recommeded improvemets to the existig water supply ad whether the co-op s wastewater distributio system ca be tied ito the tow s system. The facility s water ifrastructure is more tha 50-years-old ad is leakig. All of these plaig studies will help the projects determie whether they d qualify for a future CDBG grat. Muicipalities could receive up to 500,000 i federal fuds from HUD to implemet the work, said Fly. Other objectives of CDBG plaig study grats are to determie whether at least 51% of the iteded beeficiaries will be of low or moderate icome. Eligible activities iclude icome surveys, prelimiary architectural ad egieerig desig, cost estimates, ad market aalysis. The plaig grats await fial cofirmatio from the Executive Coucil. The CDBG program provides housig ad creates jobs primarily for low- ad moderate-icome people. Fuds are provided to the state of New Hampshire by the US Departmet of Housig ad Urba Developmet, ad admiistered by CDFA. Each project is evaluated o several criteria, icludig impact o low- ad moderate-icome residets ad the acquisitio of matchig fudig. About CDFA CDFA supports the developmet of vibrat ad resiliet commuities by providig resources for commuity developmet efforts. CDFA, created by the Legislature i 1983, is a oprofit public istrumetality of the State of New Hampshire. CDFA admiisters early 57 millio i fudig resources, which icludes a combiatio of state tax credits ad federal Commuity Developmet Block Grat, Neighborhood Stabilizatio, ad Eergy Reductio Fuds. Co-captaied by Breda Ferlad ad Toy Felch, team members cosisted of restaurat staff as well as family members ad frieds. Last year, Café Déjà Vu raised the most amout of moey with aroud 19,000. Co-captai Toy Felch said the effort was all a commuity effort. It s all about raisig moey for the kids, Felch said. Felch also said he ejoyed the camaraderie of the evet. Her record at BHS is othig to laugh about, however. With basketball uderway, Russo is agai out o the court for the Lady Raiders, where she was a shootig guard last year but will ow play forward. I pretty much play aroud the court wherever I m eeded. I like shootig, though, ad I like workig together with people who have the same goal to wi, said Russo. Oe thig she sees as a real bous i her athletic ivolvemet are the frieds she has made o the teams. We get to be good frieds, frieds I ll probably have for life, ad we re doig thigs we ll remember together whe we re older, she said. Russo looks forward to makig some more good memories o the softball field i the sprig, too. She has played softball all four years, ad ow ejoys playig first base. She said she is proud to be a power hitter ad last year led the team with her.468 battig average. This year, she will be oe of oly three seiors o the team but said she is excited about the freshme players who will be joiig them. Growig up, she said she played sports with the her brother ad other boys, ot just baseball, but Pop Warer Football, too. I ve always loved sports sice I was little, Russo said.
