It was for me a favorite class, but for this youg sophomore, the world suddely came uglued. Without warig, a group of the guys wrestled me to the floor, ubuckled my belt, drew my slacks dow to my kees, the jumped up ad quickly wet back to their seats. Leavig me exposed ad embarrassed, to say I was humiliated is to put it mildly; eve the girls thought it was fuy. Not this kid! As the so of missioary parets to Peru, I was more Peruvia tha America. Home schooled for most of my grade school years, I was ucomfortable i a classroom settig, clearly a fish out of water. I was the school goat, the oe you messed with whe thigs were slow. You caot imagie, especially with my desire to be accepted, what this ad several similar experieces did to me. It was a lark for them; for me it was traumatic, a experiece I caot recall eve ow without deep emotioal overtoes. It is axiomatic that each of us is i search of sigificace, drive to discover purpose ad meaig to our lives, axious to make a differece. The quest to be oticed ad respected is a huma trait, ad the extet to which we will go to achieve it at times drives us to resort to the ridiculous. We carefully craft our public image ad yet igore persoal weakesses that cry for attetio; we attempt to impress our frieds with homes ad automobiles we ca t afford, so deeply i debt we ca t afford to retire; athletes excel i their sport, develop a ethusiastic followig, yet have problems simply growig up. Why is that? It takes oly a bit of hoesty to realize may of us are i deep trouble. Without ay objective stadard of right ad wrog, we flouder i the dark with o meas to fid our way. But it eed ot be so. Moses, the adopted gradso of oe of the most powerful me o earth, spet his first 40 years of life thikig he was somebody. After a ru-i with the Pharaoh of Egypt, he escaped to the Siai ad spet forty years, isolated ad forgotte, shepherdig his father-i-law s sheep thikig himself to be a obody. I am deeply grateful for a God who has my best iterests at heart. Eve though I still fid times whe I am out of step with my peers, I have had to remid myself that it is ot what others thik about me, but what I thik about me, ad more importatly, what God thiks about me that really couts.
