The New Hampshire Legislature is cosiderig HB 492 that calls for the state to legalize, regulate, ad tax marijuaa. It is vital that those who represet us i Cocord uderstad the egative impact that legalizig marijuaa will have o New Hampshire. The 2013 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) foud that over 24 percet of New Hampshire high school studets reported usig marijuaa i the past 30 days. The rate of youth use is of particular cocer because it occurs durig a period of ogoig ad critical brai developmet. Curret research has clearly established that marijuaa use has a egative impact o memory ad learig, ad is associated with icreased risk of metal health problems. Research demostrates that youth who use marijuaa are more proe to coditios such as depressio ad axiety. Regular use durig adolescece has also bee show to result i a loss of six to eight IQ poits that cotiues ito adulthood, ad reduced academic achievemet. Oe i every six youth who begi usig marijuaa i adolescece will become depedet o the substace. The risk to youth today is further icreased because geetically modified marijuaa of today is far more potet tha that available te years ago the average THC cotet of marijuaa has more tha doubled from less tha six percet to more tha 15 percet. I cosiderig HB 492, the New Hampshire Legislature should carefully examie the experiece of Colorado. Colorado ad Washigto became the first states to vote medical marijuaa ito law i I 2012, more tha 100,000 Colorado residets had received medical marijuaa cards, ad there were 532 licesed dispesaries operatig i Colorado. Durig this period of greatly expaded access to marijuaa, Colorado has show sigificat icreases i marijuaa ivolved traffic fatalities, DUI s, school expulsios ad icreased prevalece i seizures ad emergecy room visits. Additioally, a sigificat icrease i marijuaa use amog youth aged has bee reported. I Jauary 2014, Colorado voted to fully legalize marijuaa. Cosiderig the outcomes sice 2012, the passage of this legislatio is ucoscioable. Based upo what we have see i Colorado, marijuaa legalizatio will ope the door to large scale commercial cultivatio, productio, distributio, promotio, ad retail sale of marijuaa ad marijuaa products i New Hampshire. I Colorado, marijuaa ifused cady bars, gummy drops, rice crispy treats, ad soda are ow sold at retail marijuaa stores. Although, i theory, state law restricts access to ayoe uder 21, marketig strategies utilize images ad packagig that are attractive to childre. Colorado is the first state to report that toddlers ad very youg childre, some requirig itesive care, are beig brought to the emergecy room after igestig marijuaa edibles. Were marijuaa to be legalized i New Hampshire, the price would decrease, ad access to ad use of this icreasigly potet product will sigificatly icrease. The 2013 YRBS data reported that 44 percet of our high school studets idicated it was already easy to obtai marijuaa. It is truly frighteig to thik that access to this substace will further icrease, resultig i icreased risk to our youth. Do we wat to add that to the drug problems we already have i New Hampshire? Please joi us i educatig parets, tees, youg adults, commuity leaders, legislators ad others regardig the dagers of marijuaa ad marijuaa legalizatio. Sealite also makes a lie of products specifically suited to relamp lighthouse beacos. The Elgi Air Force Base istallatio also icludes Sealite s aviatio lightig, sold uder the brad ame Avlite. Ad for the secod cosecutive year, the Bears foud themselves o the wrog side of thigs whe the fial buzzer souded. The seveth-seeded Bears saw umber 10 Farmigto strig together six straight poits i a tight game dow the stretch o March 6, ad the visitig Tigers advaced to the quarterfials with a victory i the NHIAA Divisio III secod roud. It just seemed like ay break that could ve goe their way, did go their way. It was the secod year i a row that Wiisquam lost a touramet heartbreaker to the Tigers. I last year s first roud, the Bears dropped a overtime thriller o the road. The familiarity buildig betwee the two squads was t lost o Farmigto head coach Joh Simmers. They re a good team, said Simmers of Wiisquam. Two years ago they beat us ad the last year Correctio ad this year we maaged to barely get them. Our defese really wo this game. (Wiisquam) ca really shoot the ball but I thought we did a good job reboudig ad limitig them to just oe shot whe they missed. It was a close cotest throughout, as Wiisquam built a quick 8-0 lead but either team trailed by more tha that the rest of the way. Farmigto led with 6:05 left i the fourth quarter after a three-poiter from Jase Gregoire, but the Bears respoded quickly. Seior Sea Buxto, who kept Wiisquam i the game all ight log, followed with a hook shot, ad back to back hoops from sophomore Tim Harmo tied the game at 48-48, forcig Simmers to take a timeout. We played i spurts, said Dame. Ufortuately, we could t quite execute whe we eeded to for loger periods of time. Wiisquam took leads late after three-poiters from Specer Pevie (51-50 lead) ad Tucker Normad (54-52 lead), ad Normad s triple put the Bears up with 3:25 left. But Farmigto would aswer with back to back hoops from Taer Gibbs (22 poits), the latter comig with 1:49 left for a advatage. A 14-4 regular seaso eabled Wiisquam to ear the umber seve seed i this year s postseaso. We played some very good basketball at times this year ad the expectatios rise whe that happes. But the loss to the Tigers i a game where the Bears led with 3:25 left i the fourth quarter will take a little time to recover. The first full day of March Madess has always bee oe of my favorite days of the year. It s a full day of college hoops, begiig at oo ad lastig util late i the ight. Now, oe feature that goes alog with the touramet is of course fillig out a bracket. If there s oe thig I ve leared over my years of fillig out a bracket, it s that there s o exact sciece. Ad yes, I m probably sayig that because my brackets have ever bee very good. My brackets have bee so poor i fact that I eared the ickame The Achor from a former editor of mie, due to my ability to fiish at the bottom of our yearly bracket challege. With the touramet ready to begi ext week, I ve put together a little bracket challege of my ow this year. Those ie (plus me) will fill out brackets ad compete agaist each other, with the highest score earig a prestigious hoor at the ed. Here s the lieup of participats that will compete for bracket supremacy: Cassidy Bartlett, Gilford The sophomore poit guard had a stellar seaso o the hardwood, leadig the Eagles to the D-III quarterfials i the process. How well will she hadle fillig out a bracket? I ve got my doubts. Cassie Cotigiai, Belmot Aother poit guard who supposedly has a firm hadle o thigs. I aticipate Cassie Red Raidig the bottom of the fial bracket stadigs. See what I did there? Kelsey Coppiger, Moultoborough Hmm, yet aother poit guard. Sesig a theme? Kelsey is a wild card i this competitio. I ll have to reassess my opiio after I see her fial bracket. Aaro Davis, Moultoborough Now we re oto some seior, vetera experiece. Will Aaro s seior leadership carry over ito the Fial Four? We ll see. Dillo Dow, Iter-Lakes The sharpshootig guard has a kack for comig up with a clutch three-poiter i cruch time. Coby Goodwi, Gilford The sophomore siper had a ight last Friday, comig up huge with 26 poits with five of his teammates missig their first playoff game due to suspesios.
