Notable Cases On Monday, at 3:00 p.m., Officer Taylor was patrolling the Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot and conducted a traffic stop on a Nissan Maxima. Officer Taylor ran the vehicle s license plate and determined that the license plate was expired, and it belonged to a Jeep. This traffic stop resulted in the driver, a 43-year old Richmond resident, being arrested for possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of controlled substance while armed with a firearm, and for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle. The passenger, a 38-year old transient, was arrested for a misdemeanor warrant. On Tuesday, at approximately 5:08 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on the 200 block of Los Olivos Avenue on a report of a house that was on fire. A MUNI employee reported the fire. Officer McCarthy and Officer Dhaliwal were first to arrive on scene, and they were notified that there was a female inside the residence. Both officers were attempting to pull the woman out of the residence, but they had to run in and out of the residence to get fresh air. Shortly after that, the officers were having difficulty breathing, were coughing, and their eyes were red and watery. The fire department personnel arrived on the scene, and they removed the female from the residence. The two officers received treatment for their exposure to the smoke. On Tuesday, at 10:06 a.m., Officer Castillo and other officers were dispatched to a residence on the 100 block of Marbly Avenue. The reporting party said her son was on drugs and feared he was killing her husband. The 80-year old reporting party met the officers outside the residence. The reporting party s 81-year old husband said he was inside his room when he heard his wife arguing with her son. When the husband (victim) told his step-son to leave his wife alone, the victim said the subject approached him, took out a folding knife and pointed it toward him. The victim said the subject then began to punch him, and he fell backward onto the bed. The victim said the subject proceeded to punch him approximately 25 times. Officers located the 60-year old subject and arrested him for elder abuse, criminal threats and brandishing.

2 On Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at approximately 2:30 p.m., members of our Crime Suppression Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the western portion of the city. During the execution of the search warrant, officers located suspected narcotics, ammunition and two illegal firearms. They arrested a 26-year old Daly City resident for possession of two assault rifles and a 53-year old Daly City resident for possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of metal knuckles, possession of drug paraphernalia and for being a felon in possession of ammunition. On Thursday, at 4:32 p.m., Officer Covarrubias was dispatched to the McDonald s restaurant on Serramonte Boulevard on a report of a male subject masturbating behind a tree in the parking lot. The reporting party said the subject was last seen on foot towards Callan Boulevard going westbound on Serramonte Boulevard. The reporting party said she was offended by the subject s actions and wanted him arrested if he was located. Officer Mahan found a subject matching the reporting party s description near Dave and Buster s at the mall. Officer Covarrubias drove the reporting party by the suspect to determine if the subject was the same she one she saw. The reporting party positively identified the subject. The subject, a 28-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for indecent exposure. On Friday, at 10:46 p.m., Officer Greene was dispatched to a collision involving a parked vehicle at 1050 King Drive. The reporting party said he was in his apartment when he heard a loud crash and saw a silver sedan with front end damage in the median and a parked blue sedan with rear end damage. The reporting party then saw the silver sedan driving away towards Callan Boulevard. The reporting party found a license plate on the ground and gave it to the officer. The license plate came off the silver sedan and was registered to a residence a short distance from the scene. Officer Greene went to that residence and spoke to the registered owner s mother. As he was doing so, he heard a loud noise coming down the street and saw a silver car with front end damage drive past a residence, behind another vehicle. Officer Greene got into his patrol vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at Hickey Boulevard and Inverness Drive. The driver of the vehicle said that he was a friend of the registered owner, and that he was driving her vehicle back to his friend s house, while his friend was driven back home in the other vehicle. The suspect admitted she had been drinking and failed the field sobriety tests. The suspect also admitted that she had been arrested for DUI a week prior, and this arrest would be her third in a year. The suspect, a 24-year old Pacifica resident, was arrested for driving under the influence, driving under the influence within 10 years of a prior conviction and for a DUI probation violation. On Saturday, at 2:04 p.m., two Daly City residents (53 and 68-year old females) witnessed a subject masturbating on the sidewalk on the 300 block of Winchester Street. The females provided a description to the officer and positively identified the subject. The subject, a 38-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for indecent exposure. On Saturday, at 6:50 p.m., a 31-year old Daly City resident was arrested for driving under the influence after colliding into four vehicles on the unit block of West Cavour Street. On Saturday, at 9:35 p.m., Sgt. Moala attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the Franciscan Mobile Home Park, but the driver pulled away and eventually stopped on the 400 block of Bonnie Street. Lt. Brennan was also in the vehicle with Sgt. Moala, and when they contacted the driver, they saw that the subject was extremely nervous and would not stop moving. Lt. Brennan conducted a pat search of the driver, and he felt a bulge in the subject s pocket. The subject told Lt. Brennan that it was currency. Lt. Brennan asked the subject if he had anything illegal in his vehicle, and subject admitted to having drugs in his vehicle. The subject, a 35-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for possession of cocaine for sale and for transportation of cocaine for sale. The following day, officers executed a search warrant at the subject s residence in the mobile home park, and they found additional cocaine packaged for sales, evidence of cocaine sales and brass knuckles. On Saturday, at 11:24 p.m., Officer Sunga and Officer Todaro were dispatched to a residence on the unit block of Werner Avenue on a noise complaint of a loud party. When they arrived, the officers saw multiple subjects exiting the side entrance/exit to the backyard, and the gate was open. The officers entered the backyard in an attempt to contact the residents, and a male

3 approached the officers. The male began raising his voice, telling the officers they were trespassing. The subject had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and continued to yell at the officers. When the officers attempted to walk around the subject to contact the subject s girlfriend (the resident), the subject grabbed Officer Todaro s arm in an attempt to prevent him from talking to the resident. The subject, a 24-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for obstructing a peace officer. Robberies There no two robberies during the past week. Residential Burglaries There were two residential burglaries during the past week. On Sunday, between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., an unknown suspect entered a residence on the 300 block of Wellington Avenue via an open garage door and took an Epson laptop and a BMW key from a vehicle parked inside the garage. On Sunday, between 6:45 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., an unknown suspect(s) entered a residence on the 400 block of Skyline Drive via an open/unlocked door to the bottom floor and took a pair of earrings, a Brazilian passport and three U.S. Passports. Commercial Burglaries There were no commercial burglaries during the past week. Vehicle Burglaries There were ten vehicle burglaries during the past week. Carport area on the 200 block of Park Plaza Drive nothing was taken from a 2008 BMW X5. The rear window was smashed. Occurred between 6:00 p.m. on and 3:30 a.m. on Carport on the unit block of Coronado Avenue miscellaneous personal items were taken from a 2015 Toyota RAV4. The rear window was smashed. Occurred between 6:30 p.m. on and 8:00 a.m. on block of Northgate Avenue two empty suitcases were taken from a 2006 Scion. The rear window was smashed. Occurred on between 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. **One suitcase was found down the street. Wellington Avenue/Brunswick Street tools and miscellaneous property were taken from a 2003 Toyota Tacoma. The left rear wing window was smashed. Occurred between 4:30 p.m. on and 6:30 a.m. on Westlake Shopping Center parking lot near the Sprint store. A laptop bag containing a Kindle was taken from a 2018 Chevrolet SUV. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on between 5:00 p.m. and 6:47 p.m. 600 block of Linden Street soccer equipment was taken from a 2001 Honda Odyssey. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred between 8:00 p.m. on and 7:30 a.m. on block of Abbot Avenue a laptop bag containing a Dell laptop and a backpack containing office supplies and work papers was taken from a 2017 Toyota RAV4. The rear window was smashed. Occurred between 3:30 p.m. on and 8:00 a.m. on

4 200 block of Byrne Street two emoji pillows were taken from a 2007 Toyota Prius. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on at 2:11 a.m. Our Lady of Mercy parking lot a jacket, a sweatshirt and a Lego backpack containing miscellaneous books was taken from a 2016 Mercedes GLE350. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on between 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. In N Out Burger restaurant parking lot (Washington Street) a backpack containing three Taiwan passports and $2,000 was taken from a 2018 Volkswagen Bug. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on at 10:30 p.m. Stolen Vehicles There were three vehicles stolen during the past week. 200 block of Lakeshire Drive a 2013 Honda CBR 250R motorcycle. Occurred between 11:00 a.m. on and 1:05 a.m. on Park Plaza Drive near 87 th Street a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander. Occurred on between 12:00 a.m. and 9:50 a.m. 400 block of Ford Street a 1994 Honda Civic. Occurred between 10:00 a.m. on and 5:00 p.m. on Miscellaneous There were 7 domestic disturbance cases reported There was one shoplifting incident reported There were 6 cases involving an involuntary psychiatric hold There were 9 malicious mischief/vandalism case reported There was one hit and run collision reported There were 8 boots placed on cars for unpaid parking tickets Scams/Other Social Security Number Scam I wrote about this last week, and now I hear it is happening in other jurisdictions. In this type of case, a caller claims to be from the police department tells people that their bank accounts were compromised by either a drug cartel or by other criminal acts. In order for the person to be protected, the caller tells the person to withdraw money from the bank and purchase gift cards or bitcoins to deposit the money. The caller s phone number appears to come back the police department s phone number on the caller ID#, but it isn t actually from the Police Department. There are phone applications that can easily proxy a telephone number to make it appear that the call is coming from another number. We can assure you that we would never call and ask you to take money out of your bank. Please pass along this information to those you know.
