Notable Cases On Monday, at 3:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of South Mayfair Avenue on a report of an unwanted subject. The reporting party said she was inside her garage doing laundry when she saw a male subject lying face down on the floor. Officer Farrar and Officer Perez woke up the subject and asked him to step out of the garage. The subject said he didn t have any contraband on his person and said he didn t know his name. The officers requested the assistance of the Daly City Fire Department for medical assistance. The subject was transported to Seton Medical Center for care. About an hour and a half later, dispatchers broadcasted that the subject left Seton on foot after removing his shirt and shoes. A short time later, dispatchers advised that a strange male got into a female s car while was went to a bank on Junipero Serra Boulevard. The 48-year old victim, a San Francisco resident, said the subject told her to drive. The victim told the suspect not to come in the car, but the suspect told her to drive to San Francisco. The victim said she had to go home, and the suspect then asked if she wanted to switch places. The victim said she would drive and parked her car in front of her brother s residence on Citrus Avenue. The victim said she was going to call her brother from the Bluetooth system of her vehicle, but was unable to as the suspect was pressing buttons on the navigation system. The victim said the suspect started looking through her lunchbox which was on the passenger floor board, and the victim asked the suspect if he wanted something to eat. The victim said she would drive to Lucky supermarket to purchase food for the suspect and that he would have to leave her car. The victim said she drove to Lucky supermarket and the suspect asked the victim to take him to Kaiser. The victim said she would park her car and call for help. She said she walked into the supermarket and called 911. Officer Perdomo and Officer Perez responded to the supermarket and arrested the suspect, a 27-year old San Carlos resident, for kidnapping and giving false identification to a police officer. The victim was shaken but not physically harmed.

2 On Thursday, at 12:52 a.m., a 20-year old Daly City resident was arrested for driving under the influence after being involved in a hit and run collision with a parked vehicle. This occurred on the unit block of East Moltke Street. The subject was arrested for hit and run and driving with a suspended driver's license. On Thursday, at 9:56 a.m., Officer Mendiara and Officer Ortiz were dispatched to Callan Boulevard and Serramonte Boulevard on a report of a collision. The reporting party said the driver was drunk and was refusing to exchange information with her. Officers conducted field sobriety tests on the driver, a 28-year old Daly City resident, and arrested him for driving under the influence. On Thursday, at 1:19 p.m., Officer Prudden was dispatched to the Walgreen s store on Mission Street on a report of a just-occurred robbery by two subjects. The store employee said the subjects entered the store and started filling up bags with multiple items of the same products. The employee confronted the suspects who were making their way to the exit doors without paying for the merchandise. The employee asked one subject for the bag, and the subject said no. The reporting party said he continued to follow the suspect out of the store, and the suspect picked up a 64-oz bottle of detergent on his way out and threw it at the employee, hitting him in the head. The employee gave a description of the suspects to the dispatchers, but officers could not locate the suspects. On Thursday, at 8:37 p.m., a 34-year old Daly City resident reported that as she was walking past a white Ford, she saw a male sitting and masturbating inside the vehicle. She said the subject drove away from Southgate Avenue near Maddux Drive. Officer Hepler arrived and found the subject and vehicle matching the description. Officer Hepler said the car continued for a block and ultimately came to a stop. The officer asked the subject what he was doing, and he said he was coming from work. Officer Hepler explained to the subject why he was there and asked the subject to sit on the curb. Another officer drove the victim past the subject, and the victim positively identified the subject as the one she saw masturbating. The victim signed a citizen s arrest form for the suspect, a 32-year old Antioch resident, and the suspect was arrested for indecent exposure. On Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., Officer Lechleitner and Sgt. Mattos were dispatched to the 4500 block of Callan Boulevard on a report of three females yelling at each other on the sidewalk. The officers spoke with the first subject who was rummaging through her purse looking for identification. Sgt. Mattos noticed a pill bottle in the subject s purse and asked her who owned the pills. The subject said they were her mother s pills. The officers noticed the subject appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance as she was displaying the objective symptoms. The subject s sister was also at the scene and said the pills belonged to her mother due to a recent surgery and that she did not give her permission to have her pills. The sister also believed her sister was under the influence of a controlled substance. The 26-year old subject was arrested for possession of unlawful paraphernalia (a glass pipe), possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. On Saturday, at 10:19 a.m., subsequent to a call regarding a vehicle playing loud music at the corner of North Mayfair Avenue and Wilshire Avenue, a 23-year old transient was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, possessing personal identifying information and for possession of burglary tools. His passenger, also a 23-year old transient, was arrested for an outstanding warrant. The vehicle was reported stolen in San Francisco on On Saturday, at 6:28 p.m., Officer Graner and Officer Taylor were dispatched to the 2200 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard on a report of a subject who was injecting drugs into his arm. The officers found the male matching the description and asked if he had anything illegal in his possession, and the subject said he did not. The officers observed the subject appeared to display symptoms of opiate use. The subject, a 26-year old Kentfield resident, had two outstanding warrants and was placed under arrest. When the officers searched the subject, they found a glass vial containing heroin, as well as a hypodermic needle containing heroin. He was arrested for those offenses as well. On Sunday, at 1:41 a.m., Officer Moody and Officer Ciucci were on patrol on Guadalupe Canyon Parkway and saw a pickup truck pulled over on the shoulder. Officer Moody activated his spotlights and saw two male subjects standing outside of the vehicle, throwing moderately sized items

3 towards the side of the road. The officers asked the two subjects to sit on the curb, and they saw two couches, matching couch pillows, a twin sized mattress box spring and a full black garbage bag off to the side. Officer Moody asked the one of the subjects if he dumped the items, and the subject, a 38- year old South San Francisco resident, admitted to dumping items and was apologetic, saying he couldn t afford to properly dump the items. His friend, a 28-year old South San Francisco resident, said he was only assisting his friend. The subjects were cited for dumping waste on a public road and retrieved the items they dumped. Yesterday, , our detectives arrested the suspect I reported in the June 14 bulletin who robbed the CVS store pharmacy clerk. This suspect was also responsible for an attempted robbery of a Walgreen s in Pacifica. Nice work! Robberies There were two robberies during the past week. On at 1:17 p.m., the Walgreen s Store on Mission Street was the victim of a robbery by two suspects. See Notable Reports for more information. On Saturday, at midnight, a 27-year old Daly City resident was the victim of robbery by her 26-year old ex-boyfriend from Redwood City who forcibly took her cell phone from her hand. This occurred on the 800 block of Schwerin Street. The ex-boyfriend was arrested for robbery and battery. Residential Burglaries There was one residential burglary during the past week. On Wednesday, between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., an unknown suspect broke into a locked bedroom of a two-bedroom apartment on the 700 block of Hillside Boulevard. The loss was miscellaneous men s clothing, two bottles of perfume, Ray Ban glasses and a debit card. Commercial Burglaries There was one commercial burglary during the past week. On Saturday, between 12:29 p.m. and 12:40 p.m., an unknown suspect gained entry into a medical office on 901 b by prying the entry doors and stole cash and miscellaneous documents. Vehicle Burglaries There were three vehicle burglaries and one attempted vehicle burglary during the past week. Unit block of Parkview Drive a backpack containing a passport, U.S. Naturalization certificate, San Francisco Airport badge and miscellaneous paperwork was taken from a 2011 Honda CRV. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on between 2:00 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. Westlake Shopping Center parking lot near Trader Joe s food, an iphone charging cord and a FASTRAK was taken from a 2017 Ford Cmax. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred on between 12:30 p.m. and 12:35 p.m. Drive way of a residence on the 900 block of Farrier Place clothing and miscellaneous electronics was taken from a 2015 Toyota Corolla. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred

4 on at 4:40 a.m. A neighbor s surveillance camera captured the incident, but the victim did not report this until five days after the crime. Westlake Shopping Center parking lot near Walgreen s a witness saw an unknown subject wearing a dark hoodie over his head punch the right rear window of a 2015 Jeep Sport. The subject did not take anything and left in brown unknown make vehicle. Occurred on at 8:50 a.m. Stolen Vehicles There were two vehicles stolen during the past week. One was recovered. Schwerin Street/MacDonald Avenue a 2008 Scion TC. Occurred between 9:30 p.m. on and 3:45 a.m. on **Recovered by San Francisco P.D. after being involved in a hit and run collision block of South Mayfair Avenue a 2017 Toyota RAV4. Occurred between 11:00 p.m. on and 8:00 a.m. on Miscellaneous We responded to 6 domestic disturbance cases There were 5 cases involving an involuntary psychiatric hold There were 10 vandalism cases reported There were 3 hit and run collisions reported Scams/Other iphone Support Scam On Wednesday, , a 53-year old Daly City resident came to the station to report a phone scam. The victim said he recently purchased a new Apple iphone and was having difficulty purchasing applications on his phone due to his itunes account no longer being liked to his PayPal account. The victim said he searched on his computer for a phone number for Apple and dialed a number and spoke with who he believed to be an Apple representative. The representative, Adam, said he could assist him by accessing his account. The representative told the victim he needed to purchase a $100 gift card and to call him back with the serial number. The victim felt it was suspicious but did it anyway. He gave the serial number to Adam and the problem with his accounts not linking was not resolved. The officer checked the phone number the victim called, and it was not associated with a name, address or telephone carrier. Sweepstakes Scam On Monday, , at 10:00 a.m., an 86-year old Daly City resident said she rcvd a phone call from a man who identified himself as John Edwards from the Publisher s Clearinghouse who told her she won 3.5 million dollars. Mr. Edwards told her all she had to do was give him $ as a registration fee, and he would come pick it up from her house. Mr. Edwards asked the reporting party for her cell phone number, and she gave it to him. They then spoke via cell phone, and Mr. Edwards told the reporting party to call when she got home with the money. The reporting party was unsure if she already gave Mr. Edwards her address and became suspicious. She still went to her bank and spoke with her banker who informed her that this was indeed a scam. The reporting party never withdrew the money and returned home. When she returned home, she had seven missed calls from the subject. The reporting party was concerned that Mr. Edwards would show up at her home. The officer advised her it was most like a scam. Thank goodness she did not comply, as the initial amount of $ was elevated to $3,

5 Community Events/Information Fourth of July To celebrate this holiday as safely as possible, the Daly City Police Department reminds you that fireworks are illegal in Daly City. This includes the safe and sane types that are sold in nearby cities. On the days leading up to each 4 th of July, as well as the actual day and after, fireworks are one of the biggest causes of fires and injuries throughout the United States. Let s keep our City safe and free from any potential disasters the potential for fires is enormous. Our personnel will be on heightened patrol looking for people using fireworks. People in possession of or using any fireworks will be subject to a citation/arrest by an officer. This includes fireworks that are purchased from another city. People who choose to shoot guns into the air will be booked into the San Mateo County Jail. In California, it is a misdemeanor to possess illegal fireworks. This could be punishable by a fine of not less than $500, and no more than $1,000 or by imprisonment in a county jail for up to one year. The Daly City Police Department takes this very seriously. In addition, parents may be held liable for any damages or injuries caused by their children s use of illegal fireworks. When reporting illegal fireworks, please use the police business line ( ). Tying up 911 lines for non-emergencies, especially with the volume of calls on July 4th, places lives in danger. Please act responsibly and plan ahead.
