Notable Cases On Monday, at 12:30 p.m., Officer Dave Farrar and Officer Jerel Tualaulelei were dispatched to the 300 block of El Dorado Drive on a report of a vehicle burglary that had just occurred. Dispatchers then advised that the suspect may be at the Seton Hospital emergency room. The officers arrived at Seton Hospital and located the subject. During the course of the investigation, the officers discovered there were two subjects involved. The first subject, a 21- year old Daly City resident, was arrested auto burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, receiving stolen property and for a $30,000 bench warrant from San Francisco. The second subject, a 34- year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for auto burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools and hypodermic needles. On Wednesday, at 11:01 p.m., Officer Joshua Moala conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a license plate violation at the intersection of Vista Grande Avenue and Mission Street. Officer Moala noticed the driver was nervous and asked the driver if he had a driver's license. Dispatchers advised the officer that the vehicle had just been stolen. The officer asked the subject if he knew who the vehicle belonged to, and the subject said it was his friend s vehicle, but he was unable to provide the officer with a name. The key in the ignition was a shaved key, commonly used to gain access to vehicles. The subject, a 28-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, committing a felony while out on bail and for possession of a master key. On Thursday, at 9:16 p.m., Officer Phillip Wagnon was dispatched to the Public Storage facility on King Drive on a report of a subject who was on the property after hours. The manager was concerned as there have been several commercial burglaries of storage lockers in the past. Officer Wagnon, along with other officers, contacted a subject near an open storage locker and

2 advised him they received a report of a subject who was on the premises after hours. Officer Wagnon asked the subject if he had anything illegal on him, and the subject advised he had a knife in his front pocket. The officer found a knife, as well as a small clear baggie with a white substance inside a cigarette box in the subject s front sweatshirt pocket. The officer asked the subject if he had anything else illegal on his person, and he said he did not. The officer then located in the subject s pants pocket a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine. Officer Wagnon issued a citation to the 37-year old Daly City resident for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. On Saturday, , at 2:22 a.m., Officer Ben Wagnon conducted a traffic stop on an occupied suspicious vehicle on Warwick Street near Gellert Boulevard a neighborhood that has recently experienced an increase in vehicle burglaries and stolen vehicles. The subject in the vehicle told the officer he had been helping his wife move earlier in Pacifica and had stopped on the way home to rest. The subject didn t know anyone who lived in the neighborhood and could not explain how he ended up in the neighborhood. While the officer was speaking with the subject, the officer noticed the subject showed objective signs of being under the influence of a stimulant. The subject also started to act nervous and reached for items near a backpack on the passenger seat. The officer asked the subject to step out of the vehicle and then asked him when he last used methamphetamine. The subject admitted to smoking it the day before. The officer asked the subject if he had anything illegal on his person or inside the vehicle, and the subject hesitated and replied, No. The officer asked the subject if he was sure, and he admitted that he had a methamphetamine pipe inside the vehicle. Officer Jaime Bermudez arrived to assist Officer Wagnon, and they searched the subject s vehicle. Officer Wagnon found a handgun tactical light in the driver s side door pouch. Based on finding this, the officer believed it was likely that a handgun would be located inside the vehicle. When the subject saw the officer holding the tactical handgun light, the subject admitted to having two guns in a backpack on the passenger seat. The officer asked the subject if they were loaded, and he said yes. In addition to the loaded handguns, the officer found nine loaded magazines, a handgun silencer, methamphetamine, and a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. Officers arrested the 32-year old Daly City resident for possessing a silencer, possessing two loaded concealed handguns, possessing three loaded high capacity handgun magazines, being under the influence of a controlled substance while possessing a firearm, possessing a controlled substance and possessing narcotic/controlled substance paraphernalia. On Saturday, at 7:50 p.m., Sergeant Mike Brennan and Officer Noah Serbin were dispatched to the In N Out parking lot on a report of a subject parked in the disabled parking spot smoking an unknown substance on foil and inhaling the smoke through a tube. Officers asked the subject to exit the vehicle, and the subject told the officers he was smoking Oxy (a term used to describe Oxycontin or Oxycodone). The officers asked the subject if they could search his vehicle, and the subject complied. Officers found a disabled placard not belonging to the subject hanging from the rear view mirror and a canister of pepper spray in the driver s side door pocket. The subject admitted to having a previous conviction in San Francisco for possession of firearms. Officers arrested the 25-year old San Francisco resident for being in possession of tear gas with a prior felony conviction and for use of a disabled placard not registered to him. There were three people arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and one arrest for driving under the influence of drugs this past week. Robberies There was one robbery during the past week. On Saturday, at 6:14 p.m., the AT&T store on Gellert Boulevard and a customer were the victims of a strong armed robbery, commercial burglary, and grand theft via forcing a cell

3 phone from a customer s hand. The loss was two iphone 6 cell phones. The store manager said he saw a subject, described as a black male, 6 0, 200 lbs., wearing a dark blue or black hooded sweater, light blue jeans attempting to take a cell phone out of a female customer s hands. The customer attempted to resist the subject but was overpowered by the subject who then walked out of the store and entered a maroon Mercedes Benz and fled in an unknown direction. The victim was unharmed, and this investigation is continuing. Residential Burglaries There were two residential burglaries and one attempted residential burglary during the past week. Between 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. on Friday, , a locked carport storage locker on the unit block of Crestwood Drive was burglarized by an unknown subject. The loss was a red 18-speed Schwinn mountain bike and baby wipes. Between 7:00 a.m. on Friday, and 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, , an apartment on the 1000 block of San Luis Circle was burglarized by an unknown subject who pried the front door open to gain entry. The investigation is continuing. On Monday, between 10:55 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., a residence on the 900 block of Southgate Avenue was the victim of an attempted residential burglary. An unknown subject attempted to force the backyard door open and smashed the rear window to gain entry; however, entry was not made. Commercial Burglaries There was one commercial burglary during the past week. Between 7:30 p.m. on Monday, and 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, , an unknown subject smashed the front glass door of Hillside Cleaners on the 6300 block of Mission Street to gain entry. The loss is to be determined. Vehicle Burglaries There were six vehicle burglaries during the past week. 300 block of El Dorado Drive jewelry and purses were taken from a 2001 Toyota Corolla. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on at 12:30 p.m. An arrest was made in this case. (See Notable Cases ) Parking garage on the 6500 block of Mission Street a passport, car seat and paperwork was taken from a 2008 Audi A4. Entry made via an unknown means. Occurred between 10:00 p.m. on and 7:30 a.m. on Parking garage on the 6500 block of Mission Street unknown what was taken from a 2010 Kia Rio. Entry made via an unknown means. Occurred between 9:00 a.m. on and 10:30 a.m. on

4 Parking garage on the 6500 block of Mission Street unknown what was taken from a 1999 Lexus SC300. Occurred between 9:00 a.m. on and 10:30 a.m. on Outback Restaurant parking lot a backpack containing a camera and miscellaneous items was taken from a 2010 Ford Raptor. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Serramonte Shopping Center near Dick s Sporting Goods a backpack containing schoolbooks, cash and a driver's license was taken from a 2000 Kia Sephia. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on between 3:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Stolen Vehicles There were three vehicles stolen during the past week. One was recovered and an arrest was made in that case. Unit block of Parkview Avenue a 1992 Honda Civic. Occurred on at 10:59 p.m. **Recovered on by Daly City Police Department. (An arrest was made-see Notable Cases ) 6700 block of Mission Street a 2007 Mercedes E350. Occurred between 7:00 p.m. on and 9:00 a.m. on block of San Diego Avenue a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado SS. Occurred between 10:30 p.m. on and 4:30 a.m. on Scams/Other Nothing to report. The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is conducting a six month study using a pedometer, mobile app diary, and Facebook to reduce heart disease in Filipinos with Type 2 diabetes. Requirements: Filipino (men and women), have type 2 diabetes on Metformin, 18 years or older, would like to lose weight and be physically active, no disabilities limiting physical activity, have a smart phone. The commitment is six months, and you will receive $80 + keep the Fitbit pedometer ($60 value), upon completing all six month study requirements. This is a tailored program with personal coaching, education and support. It requires one research office visit per month, three blood draws and three physical exams.
