5 Maldives Marine Expo 2017 Mapping A Sustainable Future Maldives being an island nation is under immediate threat from climate change and global warming. This is an impending national crisis that has made international headlines and initiated long running awareness campaigns involving NGOs and government authorities pushing for effective policies to reduce industrial pollution and carbon emission in the Maldives. While these efforts continue in dispersed fields, each addressing specific issues, the bigger topic calls for a common platform, such as one that accommodates all stakeholders of the marine industry, to address all environmental issues with a joint effort. BLAK and LAM takes on the archetypal approach to bring the subject of environmental sustainability to the foreground of Maldives Marine Expo 2017, where private companies, government authorities and local and international NGOs take the floor to identify practical solutions that would bring immediate improvements to the increasing environmental issues in the marine industry of Maldives. Renewable Energy Coral Rehabilitation Recycling & Waste Management Maldives being a tropical country with 365 days of sunlight a year and with its islands surrounded by oceans with continuous currents and with monsoon winds throughout both seasons, is the ideal setting to implement technologies for renewable energy. The vulnerable islands of Maldives are protected by natural coral reefs functioning as barriers against strong waves from the open ocean and are also the main attraction for tourists from around the world. One of the main topics repeatedly addressed by LAM as the representatives of the liveaboard industry is waste management from vessels operating at sea. Sustainable Fishing Biosphere Reserves & Endangered Species Fishing is the longest running industry in the Maldives and the local fishermen stand as proud experts of pole and line fishing. Maldives with implementations from UNESCO has established several protected sites across the islands. However, new markets with bigger demands and the exporting of fish products has expanded the fishing industry manyfold, where new industrialised operations, both at sea and in packaging factories, with poorly regulated procedures effect the sustainability of natural resources. Protecting and maintenance of these sites and the supplies needed for the care of endangered species such as sea turtles require responsible efforts from the community where corporations can aid and assist with improving the facilities and its future developments. However, the delicate balance of these underwater ecosystems is facing irreversible threats from pollution and global warming, leading to coral bleaching and extinction of species. This is an ongoing issue where perhaps the problem lies not only in the lenient attitude towards the regulations, but the lack of properly implemented procedures and practical methods to deal with nondegradable waste.

Seminar Hall Seminar Hall is for interested exhibitors to conducted seminars, meetings and conferences during the exhibition hours of the show. Maldives Marine Expo 2017 will be conducting hourly lucky draw that run throughout all exhibition hours.
