3 The Queensland Budget marks the final budget f the Newman Gvernment s first term. This budget sets the scene fr the Queensland Gvernment t sell and lease a range f assets, in exchange fr $8.6 billin spending n infrastructure. It reduces the fiscal deficit t $2.2 billin in and balances the budget by The Budget reveals plans t sell Ergn Energy s retail business, pwer generatrs CS Energy and Stanwell Crpratin and SunWater s cmmercial assets. 6 Health The Queensland Gvernment s spending n health will increase 6.4% t $13.6 billin in Of this, 80.8% ($11 billin) is dedicated t prviding public healthcare services frm Hspital and Health Service (HHS) Bards and thers, including Mater Health Services and St Vincent s Health Australia. The budget increase will enable service expansin during , including in the Darling Dwns, Gld Cast, Metr Suth and Sunshine Cast HHSs. New and expanded services will include rthpaedics, radiatin nclgy, mental health services, urlgy, respiratry medicine, dialysis, endscpy and allied health services. Frm 1 July, Queensland s first Health Ombudsman will take full respnsibility fr an integrated Statewide health cmplaints netwrk. 10 Plice, Justice & Emergency Services In a bid t revitalise the Sunshine State s frntline, the Queensland Gvernment has allcated $2.07 billin t the Queensland Plice Service (QPS) t imprve frntline services and statin facilities. The plicing strategic plan has highlighted the need fr mre frntline fficers in the field, better equipment, and safer cmmunities as key fcus areas. As part f the Gvernment s 2012 cmmitment t prviding 1,100 additinal fficers ver the next fur years, this year will see the recruitment f a further 267 fficers, csting $109.4 millin. Identified challenges include addressing the incidences f new and emerging criminal methdlgies and the cmmitment t resurces fr this year s G20 Leaders Summit in Brisbane. The State s Emergency Services will receive mre than $500 millin in funding t revitalise frntline vlunteer fire and emergency services. The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Public Safety Business Agency will als invest mre than $55 millin t deliver imprved equipment, statin upgrades and new and replacement vehicles. 12 State Develpment, Infrastructre & Planning Fllwing the Gvernment s cmmitment t driving ecnmic grwth in Queensland, a strng fcus fr the Budget has remained n the Ryalties fr the Regins prgram, allcating $101.5 millin fr the cnstructin and upgrade f essential cmmunity infrastructure. $200 millin is als available under Rund 4 f the Ryalties fr the Regins prgram which will be bradened t encmpass a wider range f cmmunity prjects acrss Queensland s regins. A diverse range f prjects have already had funding apprved under this prgram including rad wrks, reginal airprt upgrades, medical and childcare centres and a natural histry museum in Quilpie, Western Queensland. Key initiatives: $49.1 millin t fund early wrks n the Cmmnwealth Games Village including demlitin, bulk earthwrks and trunk infrastructure $2.5 millin per year ver the next fur years t fund the independent GasFields Cmmissin. 13 Transprt & Main Rads Reginal main rads are a fcus fr the $5.4 billin transprt funding in the Budget, with the Bruce Highway upgrades and Twmba Secnd Range Crssing taking centre stage. The Twmba Secnd Range Crssing received $321 millin twards the $1.6 billin, 41 km tll rad prject, with $768 millin allcated t upgrade sectins f the Bruce Highway. This budget will see the start f the $10 billin, 10-year deal with the Cmmnwealth Gvernment t fund safety, fld mitigatin and capacity wrks acrss the Bruce Highway and the Gateway Mtrway. This frms part f the t Queensland Transprt and Rads Investment Prgram (QTRIP). Funding has als been cnfirmed fr the Gateway Upgrade Nrth and the Warreg Highway Upgrade between Twmba and Miles. The light rail passenger services n Stage 1 f the Gld Cast Rapid Transit prject will als cmmence in mid Trams will stp at 16 statins between the Gld Cast University Hspital and Bradbeach every seven and a half minutes during peak hurs and perate 24 hurs during weekends.
