The Internatinal Federatin f Red Crss and Red Crescent Scieties (IFRC) is assessing the needs and gaps in the respnse t date t determine requirement fr internatinal resurce mbilizatin. The Sudanese Red Crescent Sciety (SRCS) welcmes direct assistance t prvide supprt t the affected ppulatin. The situatin Ten states f Sudan - Khartum, River Nile, Nrthern State, Sennar, Nrth Krdfan, Suth Krdfan, Kassala, Gezira, West Darfur and White Nile - are nw affected by the unflding flds acrss Sudan due t heavy rains that began at the end f July Over 28,000 families have been affected by the flds as f 11 August accrding t the rapid assessment reprts f the Sudanese Red Crescent Sciety (SRCS). At least 14 peple are reprted t have been killed acrss Sudan. T date, the SRCS reprts that ver 169,000 peple have been affected by the flds in the ten states, with Khartum, Kassala and River Nile states being the hardest-hit. Over 14,000 huses are reprted t have been cmpletely damaged and ver 2,900 latrines damaged (please refer t Table 1 belw fr mre details). Table 1: Impact f the flash flds as f 11 August Surce: SRCS. Nearly 3,000 husehlds are reprted t have been affected in the Arma lcality alne due t the recent increased activity f the Gash. Picture 1. The gvernment f Sudan cntinues t crdinate the immediate assistance f varius stakehlders t the affected ppulatin, undertaking evacuatin f peple in the high-risk areas (led by the Sudanese Natinal Civil Defence Cuncil and Humanitarian Aid Cmmissin), prviding emergency shelter and essential relief items, and fd distributins, while the mre detailed assessments in the affected areas are taking place. Under the Humanitarian Aid Cmmissin, the Fld Task Frce (FTF) has been reactivated (in cllabratin with the Sudan Meterlgical Authrity and the Ministry f Water Resurces) t clsely mnitr the situatin in Sudan during the rainy seasn and t facilitate timely preparedness and respnse acrss the cuntry. The FTF has members frm respective sectr line ministries, UN and ther internatinal agencies, and NGOs. Sudan experiences flds every year during the rainy seasn (June September). The last year s flds in August-September affected ver 60,000 families. Accrding t the frecasts f the Sudanese Meterlgical Authrity and the Ministry f Irrigatin, mre flds are expected acrss Sudan with rains cntinuing and the Nile Rivers levels having reached the critical levels. While emergency relief assistance is being prvided, critical needs remain in emergency shelter, nn-fd items, basic health, safe water, and clearing the areas frm stagnant water. Red Crss and Red Crescent actin The Sudanese Red Crescent Sciety (SRCS) has mbilized ver 1,300 vlunteers in the affected states t carry ut immediate respnse activities and has activated the Emergency Operatin Centers/Rms at the headquarters and branches. The Natinal Sciety, in cllabratin with state and natinal authrities as well as ther actrs, has been prviding the fllwing essential services t the flds-affected ppulatin: rapid assessments, registratin f lsses and damages; search and rescue, evacuatin; prvisin f first aid, emergency health and psychscial supprt; extractin/discharge f water thrugh mbilizatin f pumps;

The Sudanese Red Crescent Sciety is crdinating their activities with respective gvernmental and nngvernmental actrs at state and natinal levels thrugh the established crdinatin mechanisms, including thrugh the Flds Technical Cmmittee f HAC, sectr clusters, Fld Task Frce, and ther fra. The Natinal Sciety is als sharing infrmatin with the in-cuntry partner natinal scieties (PNSs) n a daily basis thrugh its Central Emergency Operatin Center. The SRCS cntinues t assess and mnitr the situatin, while prviding services t the affected ppulatin with available in-cuntry resurces.
