The ETC Services fr Cmmunities specialists is in Haiti assessing the cnnectivity needs f the affected ppulatin. Situatin Overview Fllwing the hurricane, a Flash Appeal was launched n 10 Octber 2016 by the Humanitarian Cuntry Team (HCT) requesting US$119.8 millin t meet the mst urgent humanitarian needs f 750,000 persns within the first three mnths fllwing the hurricane. Thugh partners and dnrs have respnded t the needs identified in the initial appeal, a mre precise picture f pririty needs and assciated financial requirements has emerged after develping prjects and carrying ut further needs assessments. The HCT has nw revised the Flash Appeal, which is seeking an additinal US$19 millin abve and beynd the funding sught in the initial appeal. Lcal mbile and Internet services prviders are restring their services and the reliability is being cnfirmed, but the need fr shared ICT services in respnse t Hurricane Matthew cntinues. 2 Respnse Fllwing the assessment missin f Karen Barsamian, Head f Fast IT and Telecmmunicatins Emergency and Supprt Team (FITTEST), Christpher Alagna was deplyed in Prt-au-Prince as Haiti ICT Wrking Grup Crdinatr at the beginning f Nvember until the end f January. An electrician frm FITTEST was deplyed in the last week f Octber t carry ut general electrical maintenance and pwer generatr installatins namely in Jeremie and Les Cayes. The Haiti ICT wrking grup is prviding Internet services t humanitarians in 16 sites acrss 2 lcatins - Jeremie and Les Cayes, with abut 300 users cnnecting t the service every day. Humanitarians can access Internet services in 13x sites in Jeremie and in 3x sites in Les Cayes. A Telecms Sans Frntieres (TSF) satellite is being used at the Centre D Operatin D Urgence Departmental () in Jeremie. Satellite equipment frm the Gvernment f Luxemburg and WIDER - an Internet management slutin frm Ericssn Respnse - are deplyed in bth lcatins. The ETC Services fr Cmmunities specialist arrived in Haiti n 15 Nvember t carry ut a missin n capacity building fr cmmunities. The ETC Services fr Cmmunities specialist in cllabratin with Internews, the Office fr the Crdinatin f Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Wrld Visin Internatinal is currently mapping ut the cmmunicatins needs f the affected ppulatin. The Haiti ICT Wrking Grup assisted the Centre d'operatins d'urgence Natinal (COUN) in Prt-au-Prince in identifying the cause fr nt having Internet cnnectivity since the beginning f Nvember. This is a key lcatin fr emergency crdinatin acrss the cuntry. A missin frm Jeremie t Les Cayes was carried ut by Haiti ICT Wrking Grup n 16 Nvember t extend the Internet cnnectin at the United States Agency fr Internatinal Develpment (USAID) ffices by adding Ericssn Respnse s WIDER slutin. The secnd wave f vlunteers frm Ericssn Respnse has arrived in Jeremie and a handver was cnducted. One f the Stand-by Partners frm Ericssn Respnse travelled t Les Cayes n 16 Nvember t assist with the netwrk expansin and t cntinue t prvide supprt in that lcatin.
