CAC AmeriCrps members serve t imprve public lands, streams and greenways, educate the public, meet immediate human needs, eliminate barriers t emplyment, cntribute t healthier lifestyles, and build vlunteer capacity t enhance the ability f ur partners t get things dne. We are cmmitted t human and envirnmental justice in ur cmmunities thrugh enduring acts f service. Psitin Summary: The AmeriCrps recruit will serve 40 hurs per week n a Mnday thrugh Thursday schedule (10 hur days). The AmeriCrps members will have their husing paid fr by the park if they chse t live in park husing. The park cannt pay fr husing if the AmeriCrps members chse t live utside f the park. Living in park husing is nt a requirement and yur decisin n husing will nt be used in ur evaluatin. Office duties will be evenly split between spatial and nn-spatial data research, develpment, presentatin, and evaluatin. The member will als assist park staff in integrating planning and maintenance f GIS and nn-spatial data in ther aspects f park peratins, particularly law enfrcement, public safety, wildlife and fisheries management, fire effects, hydrlgy, and frestry. This includes cllectin, develpment and deplyment f data which supprts visitr services such as campgrund facilities, Emergency Actin Plans (EAP), trail maintenance, emergency spill respnse, realtime wildlife tracking, Search and Rescue (SAR), Cultural Resurce Preservatin, Envirnmental Impact Statements, and transprtatin planning.

2 The primary functins f this psitin are t develp and deply GIS and nn-spatial data in supprt f park needs, as well as cllect, develp, and deply GPS data assciated with the lcatin f park critical assets such as bears, feral hgs, elk, trail and rad imprvements, discvery f new hydrlgic resurces. The member will mine imprtant data frm varius prducts fr integratin int NPSpecies, the park service s system fr management f taxnmic, bservatin and vucher data. The member will als train planners and designers in use f, and integratin f, data with ther planning systems and sftware, prvide Tier-1 technical supprt t Resurce Management and Emergency Operatins. The member can serve as members f the Search and Rescue Team (this is ptinal, it is nt a requirement f this psitin) and participate in planned, prescribed burns in the park after the required training and physical fitness tests (this is ptinal, it is nt a requirement f this psitin). The term f service is laid ut as fllws, during the fall the member will g thrugh initial training will include use f NPS GIS sftware, database systems and GPS hardware. During the winter, the member will participate in varius prjects t supprt park peratins including database develpment, web applicatin develpment, and technical writing. During the spring, the member will integrate GIS data int web-based mapping applicatins, perfrm data mining and analysis f nn-gis data, imprve dcumentatin f cmmn data management and GIS wrkflws, train staff n prper use f data systems, and develp a stry map t help cnvey imprtant resurce management stries t the public. Field duties: Each AmeriCrps member will be required t wrk fr 2 days per mnth with ur trail crew. They will wrk alngside NPS crews and/r vlunteers t perfrm all aspects f trail maintenance and cnstructin. Examples f the wrk perfrmed include: maintaining and imprving drainage structures, remving rts and rcks frm trail tread, clearing brush and fallen trees frm the trail crridr, and ccasinally assisting with prjects like bridge r retaining wall cnstructin. They will use tls such as shvels, picks, axes, pulaskis, lppers, sledgehammers, rck bars, hand saws, chainsaws, and ther trade tls when perfrming trail maintenance and cnstructin duties. They will maintain the tls and equipment used in safe perating cnditin. They will ensure wrk is perfrmed safely and within prescribed NPS standards. Minimum Qualificatins: Educatin: -Experience and training with Wrd, Access Databases, ArcGIS -Educatin r experience in any f the fllwing: Natural Resurce Management Civil Engineering Planning Spatial Infrmatin Systems Surveying Statistical analysis Skills and Knwledge:

3 -This psitin requires the ability t wrk safely and learn t use the hand tls and pwer tls assciated with trail maintenance and cnstructin. Must be able t wrk effectively in a crew setting and pssess written and verbal cmmunicatin skills t ensure assignments are carried ut as directed. The trail crew prtin f this psitin requires a high level f fitness: ability t hike 8+ miles per day, ability t carry up t 50 punds. The trail crew prtin f this psitin will be perfrmed utside in all kinds f weather cnditins, and invlve the pssibility f bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes, and ther injuries. Wrk requires the emplyee t fllw prper safety prcedures and use standard safety equipment t avid serius injuries. Optinal Knwledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability t stand fr lng perids f time while perfrming surveying peratins Ability t hike lng distances in adverse weather State r higher-recgnized emergency medical training such as EMT, Medic, WFR State r higher-recgnized emergency respnse training such as Red Card, FEMA, Aviatin Ability t safely navigate very steep and rcky terrain, verifiable climbing experience Service Cnditins: AmeriCrps member will wrk utdrs in a muntainus and ever-changing envirnment, as well as indrs in a climate-cntrlled envirnment. Outdr wrk and expsure t all weather cnditins (sun, rain, heat, cld, etc.) will be an ptinal, but encuraged, part f the psitin. Occasinal evening/weekend hurs may be necessary.
