4 One f the mst appeal features f Cub Scuting is the utdr prgraming. Day Camp is an experience that bys will remember when thinking back n their Scuting experiences. Pints t cnsider: An individual unit can t create the same camp experience that District r Cuncil wide camps d. Bys have the pprtunity t meet new peple frm ther parts f the District and participate in prgramming that is nt therwise available t the Pack r Den. A five day prgram ffers the fllwing advantages that ne day prgrams d nt- the chance t frm friendships and learn teamwrk during skills instructin, den skits and yells thrughut the multiple day Cub Scut camp experience. We prvide an enthusiastic trained staff t train yu in different Scuting skills, whether fr fun r learning. Day Camp leaders are trained leaders and ur camp will fllw the standards and guidelines set frth by the Natinal Office f the By Scuts f America. We fllw strict health and safety standards, and prvide emergency interventin at ur first aid statin as needed t attend t the bumps, bruises, and minr medical needs during yur Cub Scut Day Camp experience. 5 Cub Scut Camping (left menu, furth frm the bttm) Day Camp Lewis and Clark Day Camp Register Online Remember! Dwnlad the medical frm and have Part A and Part B filled ut t turn int ur Camp Medical Staff. On the first day f Camp: Check-in begins at 8:00 am n the first day f Camp (June 3 rd ) at the Hitchcck Park. If yur Den r Pack is registered fr camp, please have ne representative frm yur grup cme frward t cmplete the check-in prcess. If yur child is registered independently, the child and parent shuld cme t the check-in table tgether. In either case, be sure t have yur health histry frms signed and ready fr submissin. PARENTS: Please DO NOT drp ff yur children at check-in and leave until yu have accmpanied them t the walking leaders in charge f their den. Yu will have t sign them in and ut with these leaders every day. Wh is eligible t attend? Cub Scuts age 6 t 11(Tigers thrugh Webels 2), r bys entering the first thrugh fifth grades. Bringing friends t camp is an excellent way t intrduce them t the excitement f Cub Scuting. HOWEVER t attend any f the summer camps a by must be registered as a member f the By Scuts f America prir t camp. If yu think a Tt-Lt wuld be smething t have fr next year, please let us knw in the evaluatin at the end f camp. Camp Plicies Drp Off

7 Parents drpping ff shuld try t arrive n later than 10 (ten) minutes befre camp starts. That allws fr all Scuts t be at pening ceremnies when camp starts at 8:00am. We will have a single drp-ff area at the frnt f the park, where we will have staff waiting. Den Leaders will set up their den sites near check-in. Each by will need t check in and each parent/designated leader sign in their Scut with his Den Leader. The Den Leaders will check in with registratin. They will travel t the pening ceremny as a den. Late Check In/Early Pick Up If it is necessary fr the Scut t arrive late, the parent will check their Scut in at the check-in area. If a parent/designated adult needs t pick up their Scut early, the parent will g t check-in and sign the Scut ut. We will bring him t yu. Prper pht ID is required t check ut a Scut frm camp early. *NOTE: Scuts will nly be checked ut t a designated adult. It is imprtant that these adults are declared at check-in n the mrning f camp. Pick Up Parents/designated adults can pick up their Scut at 4:00pm at the same area as the drp-ff. Den Leaders will return t their den sites after clsing ceremny. Parents/designated adults will sign their child ut with the den leader, wh will have a sign ut sheet fr the adult t sign. Visitrs Staff, den leaders and camp members will be identifiable by their designated clr wristband. Anyne nticed in the camp area r arund campers withut a clr wristband will be asked t register with the

8 camp. Parents r visitrs are welcme t visit as lng as they are checked in with camp staff and escrted at all times by a den leader r camp staff member. They must als fllw prper check ut prcedures. Emergency Assembly Three (3) lng bursts frm the air hrn will be used as an alarm signal. If this signal is heard, all camp participants will gather immediately at the First Aid Statin and wait fr further instructins frm the camp directr. Severe Weather In the case f severe rain, lightening, hail, strng winds, etc, the fllwing prcedure will take place: - The den leaders will be ntified t reprt t the nearest designated shelter immediately. Shelters will be marked n map f camp given t each grup n check-in day. - Once assembled at the shelter, den leaders will take tw head cunts. Camp staff will call ut grup numbers and den leaders will reprt G r N G. - Den leaders will be given a Plan B f prgram activities t d with the campers until the All Clear is given. *NOTE: Rain happens. Camp will nt be interrupted if the rain is light. First Aid/Injuries All persns attending Day Camp (Cub Scuts, parents, By Scuts, den leaders, staff) are required t have a cmpleted medial frm. The frms will be given t the Medical Officer t use in case f emergency. If smene becmes injured, the Medical Officer will be ntified and prvide first aid at the first aid statin. Reprt any injury t the area camp staff immediately. Bys will be escrted t the first aid statin by camp staff r den walkers (tw deep leadership required at all times). There will be trained CPR and First Aid

9 staff available. Any injury that requires first aid shuld be treated there, and if any further r extensive treatment is required, medical authrities will be ntified. Medicatins at Camp If a Cub Scut r adult is bringing medicatin t camp, it shuld be in the riginal cntainer and have the persn s name and dsage instructins. This is fr the safety f bth the individual taking medicatin and the thers at camp. Den Leaders shuld cllect any such medicatins and turn them int the Medical Officer at the start f each day. If a Scut shuld need t take medicatin during camp, the Scut and a buddy shuld head ver t the first aid shelter t receive said medicatin. We als require a frm be cmpleted with infrmatin n hw and when t administer the medicatin. *NOTE: With the exceptin f Epi-pens/Bee sting kits and asthma inhalers, medicatins must be turned int the Medical Officer and administered nly by first aid staff. Lst By At the beginning f camp, Scuts shuld register with their den leaders a buddy fr the day. If a Den Leader realizes that a by is missing, send a respnsible adult t the area where the by was last seen. Check with the by s buddy. If the by is nt lcated, immediately infrm Camp Directr. The camp will be lcked dwn, and all grups will remain at their statin until further ntificatin. Camp staff will cnduct a search fr the missing Scut, and when in the case a search is unsuccessful in lcating the missing Scut, lcal law enfrcement will be ntified. Den Leaders shuld remain vigilant and be prepared t listen t instructins. Walking Den Leader Infrmatin What is a Day Camp Den?

10 A Day Camp Den is a grup f bys f the same age/rank. Each grup will be assigned a designated number. The parents are knwn as Den Leaders. Day Camp Dens can and mst likely will cnsist f bys frm different packs. It is required that all Den Leaders be A) registered with the By Scuts f America, and B) have current Yuth Prtectin. If yur Yuth Prtectin Training is ut f date, g t and take the nline training. Print the certificate and bring it t camp n pening day. What is required f a Den Leader? The Den Leaders prvide supervisin and guidance t their day camp dens. These individuals will be respnsible fr acknwledging the arrival and departure f each Cub Scut thrughut the Day Camp sessin, accmpany the dens thrugh each activity, participate when apprpriate, and assist statin leaders and the bys as needed with crafts and rule enfrcement. Mst imprtantly, they are encuraged t have fun! At the beginning f each day, the Den Leaders will be given a clipbard with the members f their den listed. It is imperative that this list be kept with the Den Leaders at all times. The Den Leaders will check each Cub Scut in the mrning and will sign each Scut ut at the end f the day. Den Leaders will be given ne (1) grup calendar and cntact infrmatin fr the Camp Directr and Prgram Directr (in case f emergency). Yuth Prtectin and Child Abuse Yuth Prtectin is a very serius matter in the Mid-America Cuncil. There are fur kinds f abuse adult leaders and staff need t be aware f and watch ut fr.

11 -Neglect is missin f a child s basic needs, like clthing, cleanliness, fd, r water. -Emtinal abuse is verbal r nn-verbal vilence tward a child where the child receives messages that they are nt gd enugh and never will be. -Physical abuse is physical vilence tward a child where the adult is nt in cntrl, under stress, r has little impulse cntrl. -Sexual abuse is any sexual act including fndling between an adult and a child. The BSA has adpted the fllwing plicies t prtect yuth: Tw-deep leadership N ne-n-ne cntact between adults and children Respect f privacy Apprpriate attire Cnstructive discipline Supervisin f junir leaders G t t cmplete Yuth Prtectin Training. Sign and have n file with camp directrs the Day Camp Staff Applicatin and Letter f Agreement. In this agreement, yu will: a. Be respnsible t the Day Camp Staff. b. Accept the principals f the By Scuts f America and apply them at Day Camp. c. Take training fr yur psitin. d. Ntify a directr at least ne day in advance in the case f absence. e. Agree that the Mid-America Cuncil, BSA, r any f its agents will nt be respnsible fr valuable, persnal equipment, r mney, which is brught t camp, as n prvisins can be made fr their safekeeping.

14 f. Acknwledge receipt f Leader s Guide. g. Understand that this agreement may be canceled by the Mid-America Cuncil, BSA, r the camp directr fr all r part f the camp sessin. 2. Have n file with the camp directr a cmpleted Day Camp Adult registratin frm and health histry. 3. Cmplete a BSA Adult Leader applicatin t qualify as a registered Scut as required by the natinal day camp standards, if nt already registered with yur unit. 4. Arrive and check in n later than a half an hur prir t the start f camp each day. Make sure materials are ready t g fr the day and attend pening ceremny. 5. Escrt Scuts frm activity t activity safely and timely. 6. Take attendance and reprt any absences t Camp Staff. D a head cunt at each statin befre and after activities. If child is missing refer t Lst By plan in this guide. 7. If first aid is needed, make sure Scut is escrted t first aid statin by leaders r camp buddy. 8. Knw and abide by all camp rules and regulatins, and bserve all camp bundaries. 9. Assist statin leaders- serve as an extra pair f hands whenever needed. 10. Be in prper Day Camp unifrm. This includes Day Camp Shirt, Cub Scut Activity shirt, Class A unifrm, shrts r jeans, sturdy bts r shes, and designated wristband. 11. Bring wn lunch and water bttle. 12. Keep den tgether and build den spirit. 13. Teach appreciatin and cnservatin f the utdrs. 14. Be cncerned fr camper safety and practice Scut-like behavir. Be a gd example t the bys. 15.
