1 AUTUMN 2017 RELOCATION TO PROUSES ROAD THIS EDITION REFLECTS ON THE SUCCESSFUL OFFICIAL OPENING OF STAGE 1 OF OUR NEW BUILDINGS AT PROUSES ROAD HELD ON 15 MARCH Frm humble beginnings BDAC has grwn in size nw with 70 staff and established itself lcally, reginally and Statewide and is nw recgnised as an active agency prviding a number f prgrams acrss Abriginal health, justice, family and cmmunity services. Over the past 4 years we have mved with the times especially in terms f cmmunity needs but with the pening f ur new buildings n the ne site, BDAC is nw able t enhance ur services and mst imprtantly ur grwth fr the future. There has been a lt achieved ver the curse f the past 12 mnths where staff were lcated at 3 different sites t nw being lcated at the ne site. Pruses Rad nw has three new buildings in peratin, Administratin, Health/Medical Clinic and Family & Cmmunity Services. Please see a full list f BDAC services n page 2 & 3. Our new cmmunity and wellbeing centre has been a fcus f ur strategic directin fr many years and resulted frm the hard wrk and fresight f bth past and present members f the BDAC bard, staff, strategic partners, but mst imprtantly, frm listening t the needs f ur cmmunity members, Chief Executive Officer Raylene Harradine said. Ms Harradine said the design f the precinct had been inspired by the artwrk f tw lcal artists, Gergina Riseley and Trina Daltn-Ogjes. Health General Manager Dallas Widdicmbe said this wrk depicted meeting places and tracks that jined them tgether, which had been reflected in the buildings n site and the paths that led between them. Ms Harradine said the plan had been t create a space that wuld suit the needs f ur cmmunity, in a setting that prvides access t the bush. The new premises brught the rganisatin s services tgether at ne lcatin, she said, althugh sme wuld cntinue t be delivered frm its Frest Street site. Ms Harradine said the new centre wuld als help supprt the grwth f the rganisatin and its services int the future. We nw wrk twards the future, t secure funding fr Stage 2 f the build being an Early Learning Centre which will include a bush kinder.

Free Training And Resurces - Injecting Ice In The Cuntry Peningtn Institute is delivering educatin and supprt fr wrkers s that they can better respnd t clients wh inject ice. The aim f the prgram is t imprve Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander access t harm reductin services. Peningtn Institute has develped vides, factsheets and free training t build the skills and cnfidence f staff wh cme int cntact with clients wh inject ice. Each training sessin runs fr abut 90 minutes and is a cmbinatin f educatin, vides and discussin. The training sessins are suitable fr wrkers acrss ACCHOs and ther health and wellbeing services that have clients wh inject ice. The training is free f charge. This educatinal prgram aims t prmte greater knwledge in these imprtant health areas engaging yuth in fun, practical activities that Abriginal Cmmunity Wrkers can facilitate. BDAC had 14 staff and 4 cmmunity members attended the relay in memry f thse that have been passed away, thse wh are living with cancer and the survivrs f the cmmunity.
