Yung) This prcess was initiated t address: ~ the prliferatin f trails in the valley ~ Wildlife/user cnflicts ~ Ersin, safety, liability issues ~ Lack f cnsistency and cllabratin between Ministries and jurisdictins ~ Disjinted prcesses between jurisdictins. ~ Establish planning standards f maintenance, stewardship, and usage ~ Wrk twards a sustainable trail system ~ Have the crrect peple invlved - planners, trail maintenance staff frm ESRD and TPR The Recreatinal Crridrs Planning prcess has wrked t establishing a step-by-step means f assessing trails prjects fr review/apprval. There are ver 3,000 km f trails in the area Prcess develped a trail inventry and classificatin system based n a prvincial matrix ~ Trails vary frm 4 m wide paved trails t game trails ~ Cnnect t "Alberta Trail Standards" ~ Useful prcess fr bth Alberta Parks and ESRD ~ If feasible in Kananaskis Cuntry it is feasible prvince-wide The lcal Trails Advisry Grup supprts the classificatin system There is a classificatin range (A t F) fr frnt cuntry trails and then back-cuntry trails are a different classificatin. Backcuntry trails will have safety markers but will nt be signed ~ Lking at trail design as well as inventry in relatin t liability ~ Trails cded A - C: nt cnsidered a liability risk ~ Trails cded D - F: inventry f rustic trails, with ptentially increased liability; peple expect certain trail standards Differentiatin between 'recgnized' trails (n the landscape but nt necessarily tied t Legislatin) and 'designated' trails (tied t Legislatin The trail planning prcess will apply t: ~ New pathway r trail ~ Trail imprvement/crrective actin fr a trail prblem ~ Immediate issue/emergency respnse, i.e. blw dwn Stage 1 - Initial Prpsal Screening Checklist ~ The checklist respnses will be: yes/n, with an area fr details and ntes

Strie stated that First Natins Cnsultatin, which is separate frm the "Public Cnsultatin" questin, needs t be added n a frm t be addressed at the initial prpsal stage Stage 2 - Cnceptual Plan Cnsent Checklist >:- Again, this is a checklist with yes/n, plus space fr details and ntes Stage 3 - Detailed Design Apprval Checklist >:- Addresses the issue f sustainability >:- If apprved, new prpsals will receive sign-ff by land manager Prcess makes it pssible t track where the prpsal is in the review Land management agency takes n ' wnership' f the prcess ESRD des nt use the same prcess but the gal is t develp a generic prcess that culd be adpted by ther departments and in ther areas f the prvince. The prcess aligns with the "Trails Act", designated trail authrity There is stakehlder ' buy-in' and cmmunicatins are n-ging with ESRD t keep the mmentum strng t implement this prcess Buy-in has helped with trail users where there are trail issues r trail decmmissining is planned ESRD has develped a "Cde f Practice" and it is mving up the line fr apprval Wh~t is the rle f KC ICC in this prcess? >:- KC ICC endrsement f the prcess is sught >:- KCICC will review future prpsals that are multi-jurisdictinal r have an impact n Transprtatin, i.e. trail requires develpment trail head pull ff >:- Recmmend that twice a year the grup reprts t KCICC n cmpleted and pending trail prpsals under review Prcess being used in the develpment f the TransCanada Trail thrugh the Spray Valley. Abriginal cnsultatin pending as is cnfirmatin f funding and then cnstructin. Decisin: KCICC endrses the prcess. J. Yung t frward attachments t all, including maps. 4) KID FireSmart Tree Flagging Prcess - KCICC Decisin (S. Plley) ESRD is the lead agency. Lking at Mt. Kidd, Kananaskis Cuntry glf curse - residential ndes. Expected t be cyclists plus supprt and media. Prjects geared t residential areas KID FireSmart funding f $2 millin cmpleted 275 hectares f FireSmart wrk arund kids' camps and facility ndes. F. Kerr and R Gw presented t KID Cuncil which subsequently apprved the next phase. Recmmendatins here t KCICC.

Flagging has been dne. KID Cuncil is seeking KC ICC endrsement f the prcess. Decisin: KCICC endrses the prcess put frth fr FireSmart wrk. PUBLIC SESSION: Start at 10:30 a.m. 5) Status f Widwmaker and Cane Meadws (D. Hanna) The agreement fr peratin f these sites with the Alberta Whitewater Assciatin has nt yet been signed. Expectatin is early June fr the Facility Operating Agreement t be in place and signed. Decisin: Update fr infrmatin. 6) Paving f Kananaskis Lakes Trail (0. Hanna/Transprtatin) Transprtatin has been able t incrprate this prject int a larger paving prject between the Banff Park Gate and Kananaskis River. The KLT will have 12.5 km f new verlay. Anticipated timelines - Highway 1 wrk will begin June 15 with paving underway July 15 1 h, KLT wrk will be dne after Labur Day weekend and is anticipated t take five days. Decisin: Update fr infrmatin. 7) Black Prince (D. Hanna) This area is still under a clsure due t sw with cubs denning in the area. This will be the end f the skiing fr this seasn.
