5 A Message From President Ian G day Team Today we are privileged to have our District Governor Moorthy Karuna and Kapilni attending our meeting as part of his official tour of Darwin Clubs. He will also be meeting with your Board straight after the normal meeting. And a great big WELL DONE to Hana, Anne and Patrick for the Mental Health Forum last Sunday. I thought it went off really well and set a good foundation for follow up forum in due course and it did make the ABC News of Sunday evening. And thank you to those Club Members who made it there to give a hand, and hopefully learn something I know I did. I hope you enjoyed the Changeover Dinner last Saturday evening I know I did and quite a few of the ladies seemed to be having lots of fun on the dance floor. On a more serious note, it was the formal hand over of the baton from the team to the team, even if much of the Board remains the same as last year. I am going to have to run like buggery to keep up the pace that Ainslie set last year. Thank you for handing over such a vibrant and dynamic club. We have a couple of busy months coming up. The reception at Government House to celebrate our 25 th and Rotary Club of Darwin North s 50 th anniversaries on Monday 21 st July, Paramedic of the Year Awards on Wednesday 3 rd September and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner Awards on Friday 24 th October. 7 Our Guest Speaker We extend a warm Darwin Sunrise welcome to our District Governor Moorthy Karuna and Kapilni on his Official Club Visit. Moorthy was born in Ipoh Malaysia. After completing secondary studies in Malaysia, he completed a BSc in Quantity Surveying in Newcastle Upon Tyne England. Moorthy and Kapalini have three children: Kavitha, Kabilan and Karminee. Apart from family, work and Rotary, Moorthy regularly walks up Castle Hill, does yoga and plays golf. He enjoys travelling and is planning more overseas travel. Moorthy has worked in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia; Wellington, New Zealand; and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea before moving to Townsville, Australia. He has completed Masters of Business Administration and Diploma in Project Management. Moorthy was Chairman, North Queensland Division, The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors for eight years and is a Fellow of The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors. After 14 years as Senior Quantity Surveyor, Moorthy was made redundant in January Moorthy was invited to join the Rotary Club of Townsville Sunrise in 2003 and served as International Services Director the following year. He was a board member for six years, including President in Moorthy is the Assistant Governor Group 6A ( ) consisting of seven clubs with approximately 270 members in and around Townsville. Attending Rotary meetings in New Zealand, Japan, India and Sri Lanka and the 2012 Rotary Convention Bangkok Thailand has given Moorthy a broader insight into Rotary Lend a Hand Rotary Club of Darwin Sunrise Bulletin Page 5.

8 Rotary Awareness Make a special effort to become more familiar with Rotary its history and its diverse programs as we work together to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world. JULY IS ROTARY S PROJECTS MONTH President Ainslie amazed us all at the Changeover last week with a summary of Darwin Sunrise Achievements. These are going to be presented a few at a time each week for July.
