Total for first half of year in fundraising and grants: $16,252! Donations to our Club: $700 (to Scooter Project) Secretary Charles: 1: Board meeting notes 2: DGN Andy s will speak on his recent successful nomination as District 9640 Governor 3: Reminder about our Masquerade Ball on 9 June 2018 Jacki: Rainbow Trivia Night by our Rotaract Club- 28 th April 6.30pm, Miami High School Ron Mullins: Application for the Global Grant at $US 35,000 is now all in place with finances complete and almost ready to submit in conjunction with RC CCT, Allan: 1: Bunnings Weekend last week very successful 2: Doing Bunnings again this Sunday and still needing a few on Roster in the middle of the day 3: Vocational business to visit the Burleigh Brewery 20 May $7000 towards PNG Kimbe project $20,000 equivalent cost- 2 Insulin pumps donated. Luca, YEP student: Just returned for Aussie Safari for 3+ weeks with all YEP students including Sydney, Melbourne, Great Ocean Road, Adelaide, Uluru, Alice Springs, Cairns and Airlie Beach. DG Nominee Andy: 1: Felt very honoured to be nominated as DG by the club and the district 2: No financial burden to the club as the District is very well financed currently 3: Seeking motivation and mentoring from club members 4: Very impressed with David s Scoter initiatives as a model for all clubs and equally Allan s Donation Portal flagship project 5: District Conference and training options for the club into the future through Andy s year David: Amusing tale about a scooter going missing and accidentally found. Ken: 1: Spoke on his honourable and hard working Surf Lifesaving involvement in the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony last night 2: He will also demonstrate CPR to Prince Charles at Kurrawa today Guest Speaker : Carey Westwood, Mana Springs Transforming Communities in Kenya 1: A Gold Coast woman from university days 2: 1994 first visit to East Africa with World Vision and set up Kenya fundraising projects 3: 2008 resigned to commence International Community development with 3 to 4 months on African continent and 2012 moved full time to East Africa 4: Strong influence of women in African communities 5: Mana Springs has been established to support influential women in slums of Nairobi and the deserts out side the city to refresh and learn and connect with each other 6: The word Mana has a Maori background regarding quiet respect and humility with influence.
