1 District: 9640 Queensland, Chartered 20 Australia th August, January 2017 Club No THE ROTATOR of the ROTARY CLUB OF SOUTHPORT Chartered 20 th August 1945 Charter No: Service Above Self! RI President John Germ DG Michael Irving President Graham Lea Rickwood Cooper President 2015/16 TREASURER S BIRTHDAYS 1955 Presidents Message for the Rotator of the 10 th January 2017 An exquisite location, great hosts, the best company and perfect weather, what better way could we end the 2016 Rotary year. Special thanks to Hugh and Nancy, with assistance from daughter Jennifer, who put on a lovely evening with good food, warm hospitality and nothing for any of us to do but turn up. How good is that! Christine tells me $135 was put in the Rotaryannes Christmas Basket which they have decided will go to the Smith Family. December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month and if you read DG Michael s Newsletter, you will have received an update on the Malaria Vaccine Project, led by Graham Jones with Mervyn as Treasurer and to which we have donated $5,000 at this stage. Graham tells me they now have $35,000 and growing. A research project by scientist we know, in a facility we support and many of us have visited, with such significance to our region and immediate neighbours, really strikes a chord. Please check out the back of this Rotator for a few items that have come through recently. Please note the updated dates for 2017 and keep them in mind when making arrangements. You will see the Rotary Clubs of Ballina are organising to host our visit to them on the 4 th February. I can easily feel a little overwhelmed, realizing that half my year as President has passed and there is still so much to do and so many things I want to happen. Apart from the Carousel that demands so much of us and for which there are gaps that still need to be filled, we can take a breath, reflect and plan and on the 10 th of January your Board will meet at 4.30pm to do our best to make the second half of this Rotary Year a great one for our Club. Christine and I wish you all a beautiful and happy Christmas with family and friends, a joyous New Year and look forward to seeing you all in good health and fine spirits at our Club Night with buffet dinner on the 10 th of January Chair Sgt Atnd Trs Chair Sgt Atnd Trs ROSTER 10 January ROSTER 17 January Rhonda W Peter O Jim S Tony S Rot min N/A In Tst Thks Up/Dn Scribe M&G David R Greg D Rhonda W Neil R Rt Min Steve P Thanks Michael L Up/Dn Tony S Scribe Leanda C M&G All Lambert W Marion J Lionel P Lea R All Graham Cooper President January

I would also like to extend this invitation to interested members of RC of Alstonville, Ballina, and Ballinaon-Richmond plus Ballina Richmond Rotoract Club as every member of these clubs will be required to assist with the running of events over the conference weekend in May. BOR members who can organise and help with the lunch please put this date in your diary. We will get back to you closer to the date to assist with catering. After lunch I would like to take members of Southport Club for a short drive around our beautiful area and nearby beaches. Please let either Jodie on orungalj@bigpond.net.au or our new conference Secretary Sue Randal on suecoo@westnet.com.au if you will be attending the meeting and/or the BBQ lunch for our caterers. Best wishes to everyone for Christmas and New Year, I hope it is a joyous time for everyone. Regards Col Lee 10 January
