It was moved by Les BOYES, and seconded by Jurg von JENNER, that Bulletin No. 48 constituted the record of proceedings of our club meeting held on Tuesday 24 th June, Carried. ATTENDANCE: Previous Meeting: Attendance improved from 65.00% to 75.00% with make ups by Matt FLAHERTY (Football Gates) and Peter McCROHAN (Secretarial duties). Opening of Meeting: Sgt. John ROBERTS called all together and led us in the Invocation. PP/PE Ian ELSTON proposed the Loyal Toast, detailing the beginnings of Rotary International in Australia.

2 Opening of Meeting: Sgt. John ROBERTS called all together and led us in the Invocation. PP/PE Ian ELSTON proposed the Loyal Toast, detailing the beginnings of Rotary International in Australia. We then sang the National Anthem and Sgt. John introduced Pres. Marg, who extended a special welcome to everyone present, especially our guests tonight, AG Jen Parer, Bob and Genny Matejcic, Ellyn Martin and Rob Fraser, Jade Tauber and Anna Bownds. Pres. Marg then read the apologies for the meeting. (Listed on previous page). President s Introduction: Pres Marg invited Matt FLAHERTY to read The Object of Rotary and then PP2 Geoff POLLARD proposed the toast to Rotary International, highlighting the recent Rotary International 105 th Convention in Sydney. The Convention was a showcase of Rotary at work, and a thirst for knowledge involving Rotarians from all over the world. He spoke of the changing face of Rotary worldwide, embracing change, and welcoming a new generation of members the future of Rotary in their hands. We then paused for dinner. President s Report: Pres Marg directed us to her President s Report in the tabled Annual Reports. She reported on the year a busy year for us with, some of the main points mentioned; Thanks to her Board Members and their great work this year. Board ratification of 3 PHF s DG s visit joint meeting here in Wodonga. Membership lead by PP Ian ELSTON. Marg had all the new young members stand. Program PP John ROBERTS. A great program and variety of speakers during the year. Celebration of our 60 th. Anniversary, with Hanna Rutkowski present. Marg attending the Rotary Leadership Institute. Senior Citizens Christmas Luncheon Jurg von JENNER and team. Senior Citizens Week nomination of Geoff and Kay POLLARD, Les and Nancy BOYES and Ian and Loretta ELSTON - morning tea with the Governor at Government House. Red Shield Appeal and recognition of Ian ELSTON S 30 years as a organizer/collector Mother s Day Classic with extra special thanks to Robert VOSS, Pauline BANFIELD and Jurg von JENNER. Strategic Planning for the club, lead by Russell ANDERSON. RI International Convention in Sydney Marg and Peter and Susie ROGERS attending and reporting back. In closing, President Marg thanked each and every one of the members for their work and contribution they have made to make the year a successful one. Presentations: Allocation of funds from the Board were presented to the AWCC for the Alan CRACKNELL Scholarship. Accepted by Anna Bownds for the AWCC. Anna thanked the club for their ongoing scholarship and said that it is a valued part of their program, assisting the student/students, whom often don t have a lot in their life, and assists with study, fees and resources. Anna, on behalf of the College thanked us for our support. The next presentation was made to Jade Tauber, for The Angels for the Forgotten program, looking after vulnerable children and others who may experience family violence. Packs to support the children who might find themselves being removed from a dangerous situation, sometimes in the middle of the night. This is our club s commitment to the District Governor s wife Helen Clancy s project to support Maternal and Children s health in our District. Jade accepted the donation and thanked the club for their donation. Sgt. John ROBERTS was then asked to escort PP Ian ELSTON to the podium. Pres Marg then said: We also have another presentation to make tonight. It has been a very busy year for Ian. He has received lots of special awards this year including recognition for his 30 years of Red Shield Appeal fundraising, visiting Government House in October, 2013 representing Seniors in this community and receiving a special Eagle Award from Council. Ian is an amazing supporter and worker for this community and with the many volunteer roles that he undertakes. He maintains an expansive network of contacts and this has assisted in the wonderful work he has done for the club in increasing our membership. Ian has just celebrated the 30 year anniversary of his induction into this club in May He served as President in As PP2 Geoff Pollard said to me. Wherever you go Ian seems to be there supporting and working for different organizations. Early this year I spoke to some members about organising a special community award for members of the club who do great community service. It did not progress but I was usurped by one of the club committees. Ian this presentation was recommended to me and I accepted the recommendation because of your total commitment to so many organizations in this community. The recommendation I accepted came from the Paul

Would you all please stand. The presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow Recognition is the Rotary Foundation s way of expressing its appreciation for a contribution made to its humanitarian and educational programs. It is named after the founder of Rotary, Paul Harris and honours and recognises the contribution of the recipient. Presentation of 100% attendance certificates: Pres Marg invited me(pr/be) to give details of our attendance numbers for the year. Attendance average for the year was 72.72%. Members attaining 100% this year- Marg Crisp, Ian Elston, Robert Voss, and Peter Rogers. Since joining our club, with a 100% attendance record - Glenn Mackinnon, Robert Currie and Matt Flaherty. Ian Elston, you were selected to receive this additional PHF recognition, a PHF with Sapphire Pin, because the Rotary Club of Wodonga Central believes that your life continues to exemplify the humanitarian and educational objectives of the Rotary Foundation. You are recognized for your devotion to the ideals of good will, peace and understanding. We thank you for demonstrating in your life and vocation a commitment to helping persons in need, here and around the world. It gives me great pleasure Ian to present to you the PHF Sapphire Pin. We can only thank you for the work you continue to do in this community and your commitment to the programs of RI. Thank you Ian. Pres Marg presented Ian with his PHF Sapphire Pin. In response, Ian said that he was lost for words!!!!, bringing all sorts of ho-hums from the audience, with mumblings of must be the first time!!! etc. < Ian just after being speechless! Seriously, Ian humbly thanked Pres Marg and the club for his presentation. He spoke in detail of his love of working with people, being involved in our great community, and being in a position to just ask people to be involved, the response usually positive. Ian noted in his response, Glenn Mackinnon speaking in his Citizen of the Year presentation of people volunteering one hour a week of their time to community work. He spoke also of his time within our club, his involvement in Rotary generally, and the evolving development of our club with exciting times ahead as our club builds its membership (due largely to Ian efforts in membership). Ian sincerely thanked Loretta for her dedicated support and involvement in the activities of our club over the last 30 years. Well done, and congratulations Ian. Sgts. at Arms: We had the terrible twosome operating in tandem for our fine session basically twice as much trouble!!! Sgt John Roberts lead off. Ian ELSTON was first in the gun not for footy (for once) but for all the exercise (toasts) tonight! Grant TAYLOR paid for the biggest glass, and bottle of beer anyone had seen tonight. Jurg von JENNER, for making Sandi go and look for a replacement battery for the microphone before the meeting. Fiona didn t miss out either, (referring members to look at the photos of Fiona on the screen with long hair) paying for her visit to the Twisted Scissors hair salon for her hair cut that looks great. PP Ian ELSTON paid also, is there anything you haven t done??? And, talking of achievements, Glenn MACKINNON paid (again) for his Citizen of the Year award earlier in the year. It was then Sgt. Jurg s turn. He started with a true story for which he paid. Following was what I think is one of the fines of the year Jurg invited everyone present to put in, recognizing what our most honorable secretary Peter McCROHAN has dealt with this year all the ups and downs of his treatment, and his dedication to his secretarial role continuing to keep the club on track and dealing with the secretarial duties when able and MOW etc. A great big thank you to Peter, and Helen - for flying the McCROHAN family flag and facing the future with such determination and faith. Hang in there Pete. Rob CURRIE paid for being on the Board, and some of our more mature members Les BOYES, Peter McCROHAN and Geoff POLLARD, for being the clubs only remaining members who were present at the Club s 25 th. Anniversary. What are you lot hanging around for??

With the RI theme changing from Engage Rotary Change Lives to Light up Rotary the presidents exchanged banners wearing their Light up Rotary head torches!

Jurg was after Pres Marg for listing him as treasurer in the Annual Report, and for using the photo of him with his kayak on Mission Beach (where he is heading this week).

Robert VOSS was in trouble for producing two blank cheques to be signed, after having the treasurer s bag for about 5 minutes! Jurg and that photo again. We know where you are going Jurg. Pres. The Three Stooges paid also for their photo Presidents Marg, John and Ian (see page 1). The photo of Pirate John ROBERTS in the Annual Report had Sgt Jurg asking, Where is the parrot?? Susie ROGERS paid for her Convention presentation a few weeks ago, and all our new young members paid John WILLIAMS, Grant and Fiona TAYLOR, Rob CURRIE, and Matt FLAHERTY and Glenn MACKINNON for helping to lower the average age of the club members this year. I (PR/BE) paid for using Jurg s computer program for doing all the attendance reports for the year. And finally, Ian ELSTON Essendon not cracking a mention so far tonightso he paid with the call, But we won!!!!!! Evidence later in the evening presented that AG Jen is a Bombers supporter (something taken note of for future reference). Cross fines saw those responsible for the microphone failing during the meeting paying with much passing of the buck. Ian ELSTON being lost for words!! (see photo page 3) cost him again. Well done Sgt s. In closing, Pres Marg spoke about our new membership badges that were issued tonight. In the planning phase for two years but finally delivered, featuring a logo of Ken Raff s Porta (Gateway) sculpture beside the highway as you cross the Murray between Albury and Wodonga. Thanks to both Ken Raff and the City of Wodonga. Pres. Marg thanked both fellow Presidents John and Ian for joining with her on this journey this year an exciting and vibrant year of service and fellowship ahead.
