Plaice Six monthly dues now due for members paying half yearly - $155 by end November International- Bren, DIK Container loading Saturday November 4 for Timor Leste. Bren is delighted to drive prospective workers for the day Gold Coast Ramble Rotary Foundation- Andy Gold Coast Central Chamber of Commerce has elected Paul Jaffa as Vice Chair. Black Tie Team PP Catherine 1: Highlighted the ongoing personal and professional commitment of Anne and Ian Watt, Elite Scooters, in Southport since The Scooter project commenced at RC BROADBEACH and we now have a fleet of , with 44 active, Scooters. Anne and Ian have serviced the fleet for no charge for RC BROADBEACH for seven years and for us for five years each leased at $1 per year. 3 2: Great and happy news of past member PDG 89/90 Allan Still with Royce Abbey award Guest Speakers This Week : Founder Cathy Booth and Manager, Patrick Kea, UMOJA Orphanage,Kenya Colleen and Teresa BTD Nick and Jac BTD Lovely Ladies BTD Introduced by PDG Ross Cathy spoke first: 1: Orphanage Umoja, meaning - unity or working together 2: Opened the orphanage in 7 October 2016, in Kenya after a simple 2010 holiday 3: Cathy was from PNG for some years and had volunteered four times first 4: Her vision was and is to have a home on an acreage as if a family home 5: In Feb 2012, 15 acres of land, with a water hole, was secured for the facility. 6: It is located 1 hour south of Nairobi and 1 hour north of Tanzania border 7: 101 volunteers have now visited from right around Australia 8: Playground is now complete 9: Currently with 11 children and 14 staff in a five bedroom building with an office - $A150,000 10: 30 July 2016 five years to the day from commencement with five children 11: Guard house and generator now also in place Patrick spoke next: 1: His background was as a tour guide and driver meeting Cathy Booth as a tourist 2: They have now trained 38 local people on agriculture and land management thus creating self-sustainability with goats, sheep, cows and 300 chickens for meat and 4 acres of crops enabling the sale of extra produce at the local market. 3: They grow their own cow feed 4: He is now the Safari company driver and guide, now established to provide profit to the project. Volunteers can stay for a week and do a safari for a period in the area as well. 5: One orphanage space available as 11 of 12 places possible. 6: Raising funds for second Children s Home another $150,000. We are achieving extraordinary things under extraordinary circumstances. Overall Aim - 3 houses with 36 children total 7: Sponsorship available - $A100 per month per child with quarterly reports 8: Oldest and youngest - 11 yo and 14 months currently Thanks by Sabrina Disability Awards Dinner Other News: Zac Reminder re: Movie night for Polio, Murder on the Orient Express Annual Changeover Christian Sampson Christian announced that he has secured a position at Westpac in Sydney. He spoke very warmly of the opportunities he found in Rotary after Zach had encouraged him join and especially in recovery from a serious accident some years ago. Best wishes for a long and happy career with such an outstanding opportunity, Christian.
