FROM THE MEETING Continental House was first established in 1927, the same year as Old Parliament House, Canberra.

It now has stately, 1920 s style accommodation, a beautiful dining room and lounge area as well as extensive gardens.

It was an evening of social interaction.

It was a most enjoyable evening and we thank Veronica and Steve for making us so welcome.

3 FROM THE MEETING Continental House was first established in 1927, the same year as Old Parliament House, Canberra. It had fallen into a state disrepair when new owners, Veronica, Steve and Sarah, took over and rejuvenated and renovated the house and property. It now has stately, 1920 s style accommodation, a beautiful dining room and lounge area as well as extensive gardens. The Gathering of just 11 members and 5 guests enjoyed a stroll through the gardens, drinks on the verandah, a middle-eastern style dinner that was both healthy and full of exquisite tastes. It was an evening of social interaction. Conversations ranged across the Farmer s market, what to do about shed drainage, the coming Anzac 100 celebrations, ancestry, real estate, world affairs and many other subjects. It was a most enjoyable evening and we thank Veronica and Steve for making us so welcome. After the dinner the board retired to the other side of the room to do what boards do while the rest of us finished or drinks, said goodbye to our hostess and left for home. Lesley and Maggie Enjoying the Wine. Danny, Victor, Joe, Glenda and Anita. Flood Damage and Proposed Remedial Works at the Rotary Shed. As a result of recent rains the grated drains protecting the shed blocked up with gravel washed from the roadway past the Men s Shed. The location of the Men s Shed has caused a concentration of stormwater runoff. This is the second time this year that the shed has been flooded. This event was somewhat worse than the earlier one. The Photos, courtesy of Victor, show the extent of gravel and mud in and outside the shed. Ian Esmore made an approach to council about the problem. Council engineer, Inoka, is to make an inspection and, hopefully, organise remedial works as a priority. Shelving for the Rotary Shed Secured.

Mark had a chat with Russ Jenkin on Tuesday morning about the shelving in the old hardware store.

They lock in together and would fit very nicely along the back left had side wall at the shed. Shelving is adjustable. They are $50 each panel.

This will help the Club to re-organise the shed in a much more efficient and secure manner.

There is ply wood shelving already standing to one side which looks like it was cut for those brackets. There are also some long timber lengths which can be used under the shelves to reinforce them.

4 Mark had a chat with Russ Jenkin on Tuesday morning about the shelving in the old hardware store. As a result Mark and Victor measured up in the Rotary shed and secured steel shelving from Russ which comes in 1.2m panels of which there were 5 along the back right hand wall at Jenkin & Thomas. They lock in together and would fit very nicely along the back left had side wall at the shed. Shelving is adjustable. They are $50 each panel. In view of the shelving selling fairly quickly, they jumped in fast to grab them. This will saves a lot of headaches in trying to either build or source shelving which would be more expensive. This will help the Club to re-organise the shed in a much more efficient and secure manner. The existing steel shelving brackets which are in the middle of the left hand wall of the shed can also be set up to be used properly. Ian and Victor had a look after the Farmers Market on Saturday. Mark and Victor will pick up Wednesday morning, on the assumption of Board Approval. Lake Walk and Talk with Ben Shoo. Joe Rozen, Gordon and 3 others attended the planning meeting with Ben Shoo. There was the expectation of more people turning up (Friends of the Lake, particularly) but they failed to appear. None-the-less, the walk and talk session went ahead without them. Starting at the point of entry to the lake area, the carpark and Boat House the group proceeded around the lake in a clockwise direction. Discussion ranged across the need to beautify the carpark area with lawn down to the water s edge and shade for the playground to ways to improve the pathway system to make it more wheelchair, pram and bike friendly. Joe was able to give Ben a good run-down on the history of the area around the springs below the lake wall. In the 30 s, this area was the social and recreational hub of the town. The idea of a lower pathway round the steep section on the west side was discussed. This could take the form of a boardwalk at the grade suitable for wheel chairs meeting up with the existing trail further up. Methods of smoothing off the track surface were also discussed. It was a useful first meeting and will be followed by more such sessions as the ideas become more concrete. The Walk and Talk Group. Lawn to the waters edge? Information Board devoid of information. Discussion on the old diving tower and lower pathway.

5 Farmer s Market on Saturday 7th. A relatively quiet day at the Markets but still managed to $894 from the gate and the BBQ. A big thankyou to all members who assisted.
