1 President s Message Fellow Rotarians, Singapore District 3310 Chartered 13 August 1980 I am very grateful to all of you, our families, friends and our major corporate sponsors and donors for ensuring the success of our film show fundraising event last Tuesday, 24 th of November. We had a great turnout and the movie Spectre was spectacular! We are now in the process of applying for a Matching Grant from the District, and targeting to give the funds to our our beneficiaries, ISCOS and Crohn s & Colitis Society in January. Stay tuned. We also had a terrific fellowship Deepavali event on the 21 st of November. A special shout-out goes to RTN Kesavapany for organizing this for the club. Unfortunately, I missed this as I had to attend a family get-together that weekend. Nonetheless, I was able to enjoy fellowship with our friends at our sister club, RC of Makati North, during my visit to Manila last week. As we enter the festive month of December, I would like invite you to attend our weekly meetings. We have lined up terrific speakers, as well as our Christmas Fellowship Dinner on the 19 th of December. We will cap the year with our annual visit to the Red Cross Home for the Disabled on the 27 th of December. Sigrid G. Zialcita Rotary International Calendar: November Rotary Foundation Month Week of 22 nd of November 2015 Page 1 of 7

2 RCRC Deepavali Fellowship 21 st of November By PP Jeffrey Chan The Annual Deepavali Fellowship for this year took the form of an educational event and a sumptuous dinner. 23 Rotarians and guests gathered first at the newly opened Indian Heritage Centre in Little India. There we enjoyed an immersion into the many different facets of Indian culture and an appreciation of the huge contributions made by the Indian community to Singapore society and development as a nation. Notable among the displays were the acknowledgments to numerous Singapore Rotarians who were leaders of the Indian community in Singapore for their many contributions. We were privileged to have as our guide Ms. Nalani who is a senior officer of the IHC. She had been involved in the establishment of the IHC since it was conceived 7 years ago. The visit to the IHC was so engaging that it ran beyond time. The gathering then decanted to the famous Banana Leaf Apolo Restaurant in Little India Arcade for our Deepavali feast. What a feast it was! We enjoyed delicious South Indian curries and vegetables dishes to accompany excellent biryani rice with the ubiquitous fish-head curry as centre pieces in the tables. All these were sweetened with Kesari, a South Indian semolina dessert and washed down with red wines and, as a finishing, masala tea. It was a grand Deepavali experience for all of us. All thanks must go to RTN Kesavapany who made the arrangements for the visit to the Indian Heritage Centre and the Banana Leaf Apolo dinner. It was a wonderful idea to bring us all to Little India, a location where many of us do not often wander into. The many improvements to the area and its colour and vibrancy were new to many of us. It is a part of Singapore surely deserving of many return visits. ROTARY S GUIDING PRINCIPLES The Four Way Test Object of Rotary In 1932, Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor created The Four-Way Test. The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions: Of the things we think, say or do 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian s personal, business, and community life; FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
