2 In Focus Report on the Gardenia Love Outing on 9 June 2018 By: Community Service Director, Rtn See Mee Lee The Gardenia Love Outing saw the Club s Community and Vocational Service Committees coming together with the Rotaractors from the Rotaract Club of Singapore to bring 14 wheelchair-bound residents from the Red Cross Home for the Disabled to the Singapore Gardens by the Bay. The outing was a huge success and enjoyed not only by the Home s residents but by everyone who participated. 1 C r o s s r o a d s

Rtn Uttam Kripalani has also suggested that the Almoner role be expanded for joyful occasions as well as. So if you know when there is a birth of a child or a grand child (or great grand child ) among our membership, a son or daughter graduating, a member or family member receiving a national award or (or being Knighted), even receiving a sporting accolade, please do let the team know. 5 Last Week Last Week Report on the Wednesday Meeting 20 June 2018 OPENING REMARKS Sergeant-at-Arms Rtn Bertrand opened the meeting and called on President Keith to start the proceedings. As there was only one guest - our Speaker Mr Pranav Joshi, President Keith warmly welcomed him and members to the small but cosy meeting. Just back from Russia, President Keith announced the good news of England beating Tunisia at the recent World Cup which he witnessed. He further thanked PN Deepak Nagrani for nearly standing in for him, but since all his flight connections worked well, he managed to get back to Singapore in time for the meeting. Next, Sergeant-at-Arms Rtn Bertrand invited members to join him in raising a toast to Rotary International. 6 Last Week REMEMBERING PP CHARLES RUDD President Keith took the opportunity to recognise a significant Club member, the late Past President Charles G V Rudd, who was our Club s president during Rotary year Upon the demise of PP Charles, his wife, Phyllis, bequeathed over S$ 1.2 million to the Club. Interest from which the Club and Service Committees could utilize for projects. President Keith added that as PP Charles s birthday would have been on 21 st June, and he called on members to stand and join him in remembering PP Charles on his birthday, for the magnanimous and generous gift to our Club. 7 Last Week Speaker: Topic: Mr Pranav Joshi The Menace of Child Sexual Abuse in India Rtn Bala Venkatesan was pleased to introduce the Guest Speaker, Mr Pranav Joshi. Mr Joshi is Co-founder and CEO at Altamount Capital Management, a boutique financial services firm in India offering Corporate Advisory, Investment Banking and Investment Advisory services. He graduated in Chemistry from the Mumbai University and later obtained an MBA in Finance from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies and is the winner of the Wockhardt Silver Medal during his MBA. He is passionate about the cause of the fight against Child Sexual Abuse (CSA), and supports RUBAROO, a Mumbai-based NGO that is working in the area of CSA. Mr Joshi spoke of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA), a scourge of societies the world over, has exploded into the public consciousness From left: President Keith, Mr Joshi & PE Mark From left: Guest Speaker Mr Pranav Joshi & Rtn Bala in India in a recent spate of gruesome incidents. Indian society, however, remains ill-equipped to tackle this menace. There is a need to understand the extent of this malaise and the forms it assumes and the criticality of acknowledging the occurrence of CSA within personal domains. While the public attention in India is currently focussed on the criminal and the punitive aspects of the reported incidents, there is a need to focus on awareness, education and preparedness of all stakeholders of society with a view to prevent CSA. This is a critical aspect in the effort to stem the tide of CSA and to make it ebb. There is also a need to tailor redressal and justice delivery mechanisms in a way that will bring genuine succour to the victims besides being a deterrent to potential offenders. Equally, if not more important, is the relevance of mechanisms for healing the victims through research backed therapies. Mr Joshi covered key aspects related to all of these as well as introduced RUBAROO a NGO that is working in the area of CSA through its awareness and healing programmes. President Keith called upon PE Mark Wang who warmly thanked Mr Joshi for his talk and noted that the topic of Child Sexual Abuse was relevant to current news that Mrs Trump is against her husband's tough stance on separating illegal immigrant children from their parents; and child abuse was also mentioned. PE Mark added that Mr Joshi reminded us of the prevalence of child sexual abuse, the impact on the victims and possible measures to be taken. He further noted Mr Joshi s decision to join NGO one year ago, from his business career as he was driven by his passion to help, as are the founders of Rubaroo. 6 C r o s s r o a d s

Ask ourselves these 4 questions and act upon them: First: Have I spent some time in self-examination? Second: Have I spent quality time with my family? Third: Have I given my best to my work? Fourth: Have I given some time to someone near and far? The Guide, in fact, encompasses the 4 parts of the Object of Rotary. The Four-Way Test Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the truth?
