8 PolioPlus '""""ting Saturday, Oct. 3rd, Pres.Peter and Dan Represented our club in the Flamingo Hotel. Also attending the mtg. were Dist.Governor Aldo Dimonetti and Norm Lawrence. National and local PolioPlus repre sentatives presented a very productive and thorough training semi nar. All who attended, left with a clearer understanding of the purpose behind Polio Plus. Dist.Gov.Aldo Simonetti Meets The Sunrise By the time you have read this, you've enjoyed some fine wine and delicious hors'deuvres with our Dist.Gov. Aldo Simonetti. The cocktail party, held Wed., Oct. 7th at the Vista De Lago Country Club in Sennet Valleys and ws.s attended by Board members, Club members and their spouses and was graciously hosted by Ray and Dave. Bill St. Sure will be switching back to the downtown club. We'll all miss not seeing you at breakfast Bill! PolioPlus Pledge John reported at last weeks meeting that we're at 90$ in P.P. pledges, everything is right on schedule and have been receiving excellent support from everyone. If you have any questions regarding your Polio Plus pledge, please contact John Dolinsek or Dana Anderson. Carlos Alt. Dir. Minor - Giants e Dev. Speaking of John, last week's speaker, Carlos Alphonso remembers Mr. Dolinsek to be "the biggest cry baby" on their ball club. Everyone enjoyed Alphonso's amusing annecdotes about his "old teamate" who was quick to note that our John was "a very good role player. A very good contact hitter." According to Alphonso, people are going to the minor leagues for talent because of the tremendous expense involved with free agents. Major league base ball budgets are experi encing physical restraints. The Giants Minor League Dev. Organization pays $100, retainer agreement with the major league scouting bureau to obtain the scouting data obtained by the MLSB - a nationwide scouting networkwhose purpose is to "weed out all the good players" to Alphonso's organization. «< *&*<*SM<2r* «<2>t«2l** «* » *t m@r> Tr/TMF FOP THF /FAR UnLted i.n Seiv-i.ce. - OedLcaterf to Peace

14 In Our Last Episode... Wed., Oct. 7th during *the cocktail party with the District Gov. and his very charming wife Margaret, Warren presented Aldo Simonetti with "Another Fine Product from Santa Rosa"i a case of Acme beer and a set of beer glasses from the Sunrise Club. The governor is eager to try this new product. Dr. Reyes Returns! We're all happy to have Bruce back after a nine week absence. Bruce says the recovery is going very well, and if he doesn't refracture it within the next three weeks, his hand will be back to normal. Give us five Bruce! (Make sure it's the un-injured hand.) The Sunrise Club had visit ing Rotarians from as far away as New York, Florida, Kentucky and Windsor! We're not sure, but Gov.Aldo's presence last Thurs. may have had something to do with this nationwide attendance. Sunrise Surpasses Polio Plus Goal! Our club's Polio Plus goal was $1^,000 but by the time the amount from our drive was figured out we raised $19,000, putting the Club l6i.9o ahead of the initial goal! John received con gratulations and a commemorative plaque from Aldo for an outstanding job in the Sunrise P.P. drive. Good Morning From Aldol In addrppsing everyone at last Thursday's meeting, Dist. Gov. Simonetti praised the Sunrise Club for it's enthusiasm and reminded all of us that. "Membership growth is the lifeblood of Rotary." Simonetti has asked for a net increase of "}% in membership to be this year's goal. The Dist.Gov. also discussed at length the importance of Pres. Charles C. Keller's mess age: "Rotarians-united in service-dedicated to peace" This year in particular, Rotarians have dedicated themselves to a very challenging service -- Polio Plus. Our goal in raising funds($2,280,000) has become the 3rd highest in the nation. Thus Polio Plus has become the "extraordinary challenge". Our appreciation to Dist. Governor Aldo Simonetti, District Rep. Jack Valarga (and Bruce Anderson?) for honoring the Sunrise Club with their visit. «N WO^ «N tk2)^ #*S)Wgy* #* Mgy* «N «<2)^ THFUF FOP THF UnLted in Seivice- - to Peace VEAR dedicated

Don't cry for Warren! Shed tears for his "bleeding hearts"! Russ, Bruce and Jim. $5 -Kent apparently caused' Bob a "great inconvenience' How convenient for Bob! $5 -Gary graduated from Dale Carnegie (with honors?) $5 -Was all Ray was fined for having caused the "Crash of 1987"! 24 In Our Last Episode... Foundation Dinner If you are planning to attend the foundation dinner on Nov. 21st, at the Burlingarae Marriot please let Bruce Bowe know immediately (if not sonner). Tickets for the dinner are $60 each or $120 per couple. Dur ing the event, a raffle will ; be held for a number of valuable ble prizes! The raffle tickets are $10 each. Those who plan to buy or sell tickets need to see Bruce. Windsor Makeup Windsor President John Lewis was among last week's.visiting Rotarians. It was brought to our attention that the Sunrise Club's bulletin fails to in clude Windsor as a makeup location. Until we can include it in our list of makeup loca tions. The Windsor club mtg. is every Tuesday 7'-15 AM at Windsor Bowl. A reminden Nov.?th is Windsor's "Charter Night". Drug Smuggling Awareness To say last week's special guest speaker didn't bring a new awareness about drug smuggling is an understatement. Randy Hunting, a US Customs' Service Agent discussed with us the war on drug smuggling which in his words is -A Losing Battle". Smuggling illegal drugs in the U.S. is a $*) billion a year business and last year US Customs seized only a million dollars from smugglers. Agent Hunting, pointed to drug smuggling loads in California as experiencing a dramatic increase. To continue the battle with durgs, US Customs Service and the Treasury Dept. need to make allies with such businesses as banking and real estate to watch out for potential drug smugglers and report unusual trans actions to US Customs. There will be a meeting with the Board of Directors Monday, Nov. 9th at 5t30PM; Dean Witter Reynolds, 703 2nd St. in Santa Rosa. Red badges are encouraged to attend to work towards your blue badge. We are all very sad to hear about the death of Jerry Ignacio. Jerry was a member of the San,ta Rosa East Club as well as Operations Mgr. for KSR0/KRE0. He died on Wed. morning, Oct. 21st at Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
