Joe did forget to introduce Mike Merrill who really didn't care if he was introduced as long as Seegmiller remembered to send Mike's attendance slip to his club. Our 234 excuse with a fall in Peter pulled Peter story too mpy President Peter, who by the way STILL weighs lb s. (way to go) (Dr. Reyes is not happy with Peter's mu s) tried to explain his bad foot and crutches away story about he and Gorman bar hopping and Peter g off a bar stoll but the real story surfaced that was working on a treadmill and stepped on his foot and some ligaments. Probably both stories are true, left the bar to go to the treadmill. There was a third about the fat sucking machine but I have already used ch space for this **************************************************************

3 GUESTS Dan Apodaca introduced Jack Eddinger from Colorado who was sporting a really snazy new tie. Russ Lockner brought Jim Hakel, President of SGH General Contractors. Kent Seegmiller brought Gene Irtenkauf, Vice President, Golden Gate Funding who had to be introduced by Dunn because Kent was brown nosing at the front table. Kent said he did pay for Gene's breakfast, but I being one of Kent's former guests, know that, that is a lie. What did Dunn mean by a deposit on a BMW???? FINE TIMES Jack Eddinger for his birthday on the 6th, Promotion at the Exchange Bank, new home, new tie with black lights. $100 to Polio Plus, hope he found his lost pen to do the check, Thanks Jack. $5.00 Dan Lambert birthday on the 28th, three years shy of 50. RAFFLE Bob Dunn - Good thing as he was able to pay his fine.

8 IN OUR LAST xsode Last week's Sunrise Meeting was reminiscent of the old "BEN CASEY" show because we covered BIRTH, DEATH and in the case of our club assembly; INFINITY. NEW MEMEBERS MARK WALSVICK, President of Mark A. Walsvick, C.F.P., Financial Consultant who was brought into our club by Dana Anderson and LEROY CARLENZOLI of Carlinzoli and Associates, sponsored by Kent Seegmiller, were both inducted. During the ceremony both Dana and Kent brought a new twist to the traditional presentation of the Rotary Pin by giving the pin off their own lapels. What a fine concept!! CLUB CHRISTMAS PARTY Dave and Shauna Lorenzen have again offered their home.and hospitality for a little Pre-Christmas cheer. All members and their spouses are invited. Libations and Hors D'ouvres will be provided. The party is Saturday December 12tth from 5PM on. If you are planning to attend please let Dave know soon. GALLAGHER'S FIRST Thanksgiving was postponed for Pat and Sue, thanks to a little 6 pound 14 ounce visitor named Matthew Christopher who arrived Wednesday, November 25th at 11:32PM. As a Rotary tradition, a generous collection was taken up by everyone at last week's meeting and given to Pat to match and put into a savings acount for the baby. Pat says Matthew's account is much larger than "Old Dads". *********************************************vt**************

9 CLUB ASSEMBLY At our club assembly we held a vote on the By-Laws of the Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary Club for as well as the Officers and Board Members slated by the Nominations Committee. 16 IN OUR LAST EPISODE. "Visiting Rotarian Jim Ponzio Read the list of last weeks visiting Rotarians. (Makes sense to me" - Hunter) Some Polio Plus Contributions/Pledges are still due so please fulfill your membership obligations. John Dolinsek would like to have Polio Plus 1987 wrapped up by the end of the year, if not sooner. Do you remember the lamb we auctioned off at our meeting? Apparently some of you who purchased legs, rumps and other bodily parts have yet to pick them up from Dan Sabatino. He still has a freezer full of lamb and the Sabatino's are tired of lamb burgers, lamb loaf and other unique recipes. Seriously, be a dear and pick up your lamb. After very careful consideration, new father Pat Gallagher decided to open up a savings account for his son Matthew at the Redwood Credit Union. Pat felt opening the account at Exchange Bank or Sonoma National might constitute an advertising fine to be levied against fellow club members, employed at these financial institutions. The Gallagher Family would again like to thank you for contributing to Matthew's financial future. ************************************************************* UPCOMING EVENTS: Dec 24th T B A Dec 31st T B A Jan 21st Keith Woods - New Santa Rosa Chamber President Jan 28th Gene Tunney - "My Fightin' Father" *************************************************************

17 K-9 COMPANIONS Last week our future President Bob Dunn introduced us to Sandy Hobart, the local Director of K-9 Companions. Hobart's background is \/ery impressive as she once held a staff position with the "infamous" Adam Clayton Powell as well as being the former Executive Secretary for Standard Structures. K-9 Companions is a 12 year old organization, dedicated to providing the disabled with dogs that will help them cope with their physical disabilities. As of 1987, K-9 Companions has placed 300 of these remarkable dogs throughout the world. The dogs used are broken up into four classifications: 1. Service Dogs 2. Social Dogs 3. Signal Dogs 4. Specialty Dogs Each dog can perform about 89 commands, such as pulling wheel chairs, opening doors, even alerting their master when the fire alarm goes off. K-9 Companions breed their own dogs which include: Golden Retrievers, Labradors, Border Collies and Welsh Corgis. Dobermans are bein phased out of the program. Anyone interested in raising these very special dogs for a year can become a K-9 Puppy Raiser, provided that you have a fenced in yard and are willing to keep a 7 week old pup in your bedroom. On November 21st K-9 Companions celebrated its 25th Graduation at the Odd Fellows in Santa Rosa. The next graduation date is February 20th. Visitors are welcomed at K-9 Companions (1215 Sebastopol Road, Santa Rosa between North Dutton and Stony Point Road). However, please call for an appointment.

19 THE FINE TIMES Russ had a double whammy last week and paid $5.00 for a 48th birthday and an additional $5.00 for his new suit which will accompany him to his wife Vicki's sisters wedding December 12th. (the same day as the Club Christmas Party?) When asked to comment on being fined for his new suit Russ replied: "That's all its cost?" Friends of Jim Daw notified Pres. Peter of Jim's name being in the Santa Rosa Business Journal as a member of Sonoma National Bank Advisory Board. Those nice friends cost Jim a $5.00 advertisement fine. Jim paid and additional $5.00 because his wife Kathy's birthday on the 10th. Its the first time Jim pleaded no'lo contendere to Pres. Peter and just paid the fines. A first for Bubba. Bruce paid $5.00 for alienating his neighbors. One of our newest members, Leroy Carlenzoli had his name mentioned several times in a recent Santa Rosa Business Journal article. 24 COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM CHILD ABUSE PANEL: The usual merriment at our club meetings was missing last week as we heard some rather heart wrenching testimony to the critical area of child abuse. Warren Smith introduced Vicki Lockner, the first of four panelist present, who as the Principal of Steele Lane School has personally worked with several child abuse cases at the school. Lockner pointed out that if child abuse is suspected it is MANDATED by law that it must be reported. The second panel member to speak was Terry Locklier from the Sonoma Child Guidance Institute. Ms. Locklier brought forth the sad but true fact that most abused children "fearing they'll lose their family, learn to cope with it (abuse)'.''."' According to Locklier, the majority of reported child abuse cases are "girls." When working with the child the first thing she says to them is: "I know what happened to you." The child usually responds with: "How did you know"? Followed by "will my mommy and daddy go to jail?" Detective Sgt. Jim Carlson of the Santa Rosa Policy Dept. was the third panelist to speak about the serious physical abuse cases his department handles. According to Carlson, last year alone they had 365 reported child abuse cases, of that 90% of those were sexual abuse cases. Our final child abuse panel member was Bob Cassidy, Director Of The Sonoma County Child Protective Services (CPS). At CPS they primarily treat sexually abused child ren and their families. Cassidy's staff includes twentytwo volunteer thereapists who work with groups of children ranging in ages from 3 to 18. Approximately 75 to 100 children are treated at CPS with another 25 to 50 on a waiting list.

25 Bob Cassidy thanked our club for it's interest in helping, quickly adding that Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary is the first organization in this county offering it's support. Con sidering the severe nature of this new project of ours, one cannot help but feel shame in receiving such heart felt appreciation from Bob Cassidy. Also in attendance to answer questions was Georgia Berland, Co-ordinator of the Sonoma County Human Services Commission.

27 CHRISTMAS CHEER Sources close to this reporter have said that this year's club Christmas party was by far the best. Everyone was "well behaved" with the exception of Bob Dunn who "hovered over the television" waiting for the start of SUPERBOWL XXIII! Everyone who attended were well-catered by hosts Dave and Shaunc Lorenzen. To show appreciation the club presented the Lorenzen's with a "Service Above Self" plaque. President Peter praised Dave's efforts at last week's meeting saying: "When help is needed Dave always says: "What do you need DONE?" PolioPlus

32 IN OUR LAST EPISODE... BOB DUNN'S SUPERBOWL PARTY The long awiated announcement regarding SUPERBOWL XXIII was made by our newly-elected President during last week's meet -ing. Dunn promises that this year's party will be "a catered affair( Dave Lorenzen, are you 1intoning?) complete with a FOOT BALL POOL! The party will take place at the home of Bob and Diane Dunn on January 17th,with a starting time still to be announced. However, Dunn provided the club with the two teams going into battle on SUPERBOWL SUNDAY,'88: "the NINERS against the SEAHAWKS"! - - INFORMATION SEMINAR On Saturday February 20th,the Santa Rosa Junior CoAlege will be holding a special INFORMATION SEMINAR. All officers are encouraged to attend this all-day event. Further infor mation concerning the seminar will be posted in the bulletin. ' THE FINE TIMES : ' -. '.;..:...'. The winning ticket belonged to none other than Ray Gorman! Upon opening this gift Ray found it contained: DELFEN FOAM, ANDRE CHAMPAGNE (FOR THE HOLIDAYS) AND OTHER ACCESSSORIES that will undoubtedly brighten Ray's spirits! We should mention that Ray's name was on all the raffle tickets. As Wim Van der Horst exclaimed: "kinda like a Korean Election!". MERRY CHRISTMAS RAY!.

33 MEMBERSHIP The following two individuals have been approved for club membership by the Board of Directors: Gene Irtenkauf- classification: LEASING Jim Hakel-classification: COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION If you have any objection to these candidates, please notify a Board member as soon as possible,so that induction - proceedings may take place by the first week of January. THE RESCUE MISSION Reverend Dick Cross and his wife Ruth attended our merry morning gathering last week as special guests of Joe Militello. While introducing the speakers, joe, suddenly overcome by the heat in the room, stripped off. his jacket and shirt, revealing a t-shirt with the Farmer's Insurance logo and his name imprinted several times. Guess who's name will be appearing in next week's FINE TIMES column? " '..-.,. <;> : ' -, -.,'.' -.'. :,; V - Rev. Cross came to share breakfast with the club and reminded us that there are many needy people, especially at this festive time of year. For.the past twenty-five years, the Cross family have devoted their lives, to helping some of the needy find a place to'sleep and.food to eat. On:April 22nd, the Cross's will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Rescue Mission with special guest "Globe trotter" Meadowlark Lemon at the "El Rancho Tropicana. After a bout with alcoholism and drug -addiction,dick Cross found the ministry and eventually the Rescue Mission. His lovely wife Ruth was raised as'an orphan in foster'homes as."an unwanted unloved, abused child". After a twenty year career in show business, she decided to help others who have also suffered the way she had. Ruth is a minister at the Sonoma County Jail for Women and has also brought "God's word" to inmates.at the Corona Institute for Women. However, her greatest joy is caring for women who enter the Manna Home-a six-bedroom house where the women recieve:"warmth, comfort and the Gospel.". Funds for both the Rescue Mission and Manna Home come strictly from "faith donations". The Mission also operates a thrift store which is run by men from the Mission. Those who enter the Mission are given food and shelter for the night and are allowed to leave the next day. The only "requirement" Cross places upon his "visitors' is they must "hear the Gospel". The wine that is usually given to a guest speaker, was auctioned off at the request of Rev. Cross. Bruce Bowe made the highest bid ($50) for the two bottles, with the proceeds going to the Rescue Mission.

34 FINALLY Russ Lockner had a special guest at his table last week; his daughter Chris, who is currently attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Chris has a very active schedule athletically speaking, with soccer and basketball games. She also loves fly fishing and in Russ's opinion is: "almost as good as her dad!". Last week's raffle winner was our beloved President Peter! Congratulations! Isn't there a rule in Rotary prohibitting the club's president from winnning in the raffle? Its also apparent that Pat got his new memory writer from Santa Claus, its just too bad that the thing can't correct his spelling. No word on BUBBA this week. Sure hope the holidays don't take their toll. Has anyone ever seen Seegmiller without a tie. appropriate caption have been sent to IBM HQ. A picture and the (NOTE: Jim, I won't be attending our meeting on 12/31,because I'm on vacation. I meant to tell you this last week. If there are any problems call me at home. ) P9
