3 Hi all These next pictures are of the Mungo Martin totem pole raising at the Peace Arch crossing Saturday September 21. The pole is a replica of a totem pole at Skidegate. Mungo Martin (Ruperts great grandfather on his mother's side) was commissioned to carve this pole and Bill Reid worked on it as well. The totem pole was raised without the proper ceremony and taken down without proper consultation by a contractor. The Shemiamoo First Nations found out about it and took possession of the Mungo Martin totem pole. They contacted Kwakwakawakw and Haida Nations and informed them about what had occurred. That was 10 years ago. The Shemiamoo First Nations then started the laborious task of making the wrong right. It took 9 years to complete this process! They never gave up and the NDP government helped it to happen. The premier apologized for the wrong and said that he wants to work toward reconciliation with first nations peoples. These are pictures that I took of the event. Halakasla Rupe For a Video of the raising go to

6 A Couple of Jokes from Mike to brighten your day Wayne was returning home from a business trip, bags in hand, and slowly making his way to his vehicle in the crowded airport garage. Suddenly a large dark car screeched to a stop in front of Wayne, and the driver pointed menacingly at him. "Get in," the driver ordered. "I'll take you to your car." Startled, Wayne took a step backward. "Ah...no thanks," he answered. "I can get there myself." "No!" the man barked back as he threw open his passenger side door. "Get in!" Wayne's eyes now darted around the garage, hoping to find a security guard. Just then, the driver's face softened. "Please," he said, "I've been driving up and down for two hours. I can't find a space to park, and I want yours.". Kenny, a city boy, moved to the country and purchased a car from a farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the car the following day. The next morning, the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry, son, but I have some bad news. The car broke down." "OK, well, just return my money to me," Kenny said. "Sorry, can't do that," said the farmer. "I already spent it." "OK then, just unload the car," said Kenny. "Whatcha gonna do with it?" asked the farmer. "I'm going to raffle it off," Kenny replied. "You can't raffle off a broken-down car!" the farmer exclaimed. "Of course I can," replied Kenny. "Watch me. I just won't tell anybody it doesn't work." A few weeks later, the farmer met up with Kenny and asked, "So, what happened with the car?" "I raffled it off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $898.00," explained Kenny. "Didn't anyone complain?" inquired the farmer. Kenny proudly replied, "Just the guy who won. So, I gave him his two dollars back."
