1 LAKESIDE PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING MAY 13, 2017 Call to Order The General Membership Meeting was called to order by President Jim Meyer at 10 a.m. Approximately 140 people were in attendance. Invocation The Rev. Vernon Shepherd, Lakeside United Methodist Church, gave the invocation. Welcome President Meyer welcomed everyone to the meeting. He expressed his gratitude to Mike Mlakar, Lakeside employee, for setting everything up for the meeting. He also expressed appreciation to Mary Ann Hirsch, Director of Guest Services at Lakeside, for her support and to Mike Brown, for his work as President of the LPOA for the past four years. Introduction of Board Members/Officers President Meyer introduced the LPOA Executive Committee for the upcoming year: Jim Meyer, President; Mike Brown, Vice President/Parliamentarian; Tom Campbell, Secretary; Linda Huber, Treasurer; Jim Heikes, Sergeant at Arms; John Fleischer, LPOA Representative to the Lakeside Board of Directors; and Directors: Carolyn Brown, Joe Caner, Rick Green, Becky Howard and Jeffrey Beach. Welcome New Property Owners Karen Campbell & John Futrell, 434 E. Third St.; Bob & Michelle Baker, 422 Maple Ave.; Karen Anderton, 120 E. Third St.; John & Linda Bailey, 702 Wesleyan; Matt & Clare Smith, 625 Plum Ave. Approval of Minutes The October 2016 meeting minutes were approved by voice vote. Treasurer s Report Linda Huber, Treasurer, gave the Treasurer s Report which was approved by the membership. Linda also reported that the annual audit had concluded and everything was in order. Income Balance as of January 1, 2017 $6, Dues Payments $10, Advertising $11, Alumni Payments $ Miscellaneous Revenue $60.37 Total Income: $27,925.70

Expense $ Total Expenses: $2, CD Value: $5, Checking Balance: $30, Program: Loretta Wilken, Lakeside Master Gardener Loretta Wilken stated that she has now worked in Lakeside for one year and she thanked everyone for their support. She said that Lakeside provides a great opportunity for fruit growth not only on trees, but in pots. Some of the varieties she recommended include raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and elderberries. She said to always transplant your plant to a larger container rather than the one it came in to allow for growth. She said to make sure you put your containers in a protected area in the winter to keep them from freezing. If you are considering changing your landscape, Loretta suggested fruit plants rather than traditional bushes. She said she will attending to the Gardener s booth each Tuesday morning at the Farmers Market if you have any questions. She will also be available at the Pavilion every Thursday at 8:30 am. For the Get Growing! Gardening Program. LPOA President Jim Meyer President Meyer reminded everyone that the LPOA is an advisory organization, not a policy making board. The Lakeside Board of Directors is the policy making organization. He said we provide a forum for property owners to discuss issues and concerns. President Meyer advised that we are looking into insurance for indemnification coverage of the LPOA Executive Committee, and we should have an update at our July meeting. He announced the formation of a Nominations Committee for the upcoming vacant positions on the LPOA Executive Committee. The committee will be chaired by Mike Brown and other members, including Joe Caner, Becky Howard, Jim Heikes and Jim Meyer. The positions to be nominated include: Treasurer, Secretary and two Directors. If you are interested in being

3 considered, please contact a member of the committee. If you wish to nominate someone to the committee, please make sure they agree to serve if elected. President Meyer announced that we are exploring the idea of developing a website for the LPOA. It is felt that this will enhance our ability to communicate with all property owners. He expressed his gratitude to the team that worked to put the Directory together: Mike Brown, Carolyn Brown and Donna Lueke. He also advised everyone that the Executive Committee is developing an orientation program for new property owners, and he will have an update at the July meeting. LPOA Vice-President Mike Brown Mike Brown reminded everyone that the information you include on the white cards that are mailed to you each year is the information that is included in the Directory. The deadline for any changes for the Directory is April 1 of each year. If any information in the new directory is incorrect, please let Tom Campbell or Carolyn Brown know. Mike said there was great response to voting on the by-law changes from the membership. The by-law changes were overwhelmingly accepted. Everyone was reminded that the information in the Directory is not to be used for solicitation purposes. Mike also reminded everyone to review the advertisers listed in the back of the Directory. New Gate Protocol, Pat Castanaras, Gate Supervisor Pat Castanaras reported that in order to reduce the lines at the Fifth Street Gate, especially on Saturdays, some changes needed to be implemented. Property owners should now purchase Daily Chautauqua Passes either at Hoover Auditorium or the Welcome Center at the South Gate entrance. Guests arriving at Lakeside will still be able to purchase passes at Fifth Street Gate. If you are leaving tickets for family and friends, they must be left at the Welcome Center not Fifth Street Gate. At 11 p.m. each evening, tickets not picked up will be taken to the Fifth Street Gate for late arrivals and returned to the Welcome Center the following morning at 7 a.m. Shuttle drivers will also be happy to take your purchased tickets to the Welcome Center to be left for your guests. Lakeside Report:, Kevin Sibbring, President/CEO Kevin Sibbring presented a very informative PowerPoint presentation regarding the state of Lakeside. In addition to the presentation, Kevin expressed a special thank you to Milt Lewis and Dan Dudley for their work on the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus. Kevin announced there is considerable activity in Lakeside with about 24 construction/renovation projects and five new homes being built. The sale of season passes is also up at this time.

4 Plans are to have the pool open by July 4 th weekend, but the Wellness Center will not open until at least the fall. The pool will probably open around 6:30 or 7 a.m. for lap swimming or exercise. The pool will then open for general use around 12 p.m. The Danbury Pool will also still be available for Lakesiders use. Kevin stated that 4-way stops will be added on Fifth and Sixth Streets around the pool area for safety concerns. Everyone is encouraged to walk or ride bicycles to the pool since there is limited parking. This will be an ADA accessible facility. There was a question if refreshments would be available. Kevin answered that drinks, salads and some sandwiches will be sold. The Wellness Center will have a full kitchen and can be used for special events. Kevin stated a new sound system is being installed in Hoover. Many agents for top quality entertainment have prerequisites for sound equipment. This will help to solve some of those issues. Some of our equipment was more than 30 years old. Kevin stated we are entering phase 3 of the Chautauqua Park/Memorial Garden project, which will include an entry pavilion that will contain the plaques with the names of the loved ones whose remains have been scattered in the gardens. Kevin stated that the Lake Erie Foundation is doing very important work for the overall health of Lake Erie. It is important for Lakeside to be a part of this organization and Kevin is on the Board. Lakeside was well represented in Washington D.C. in a lobbying effort, and the Foundation, along with others, is suing the EPA to force the EPA to address the issues under the Clean Water Act. Kevin stated that a special event, All Hands on Deck, will occur on 9 a.m. July 3. Everyone is encouraged to meet at the Pavilion to line the lakeshore holding hands to show support for protecting our lakes. Kevin stated there has been good feedback from everyone concerning the Master Plan. Please refer to the PowerPoint presentation or go to for information about upcoming meetings concerning the Master Plan.
