2 SOMANZ / ADIPS 2008 information SOMANZ/ADIPS INFORMATION The members of the Organising Committee would like to extend an invitation to you to attend the SOMANZ/ADIPS 2008 Combined Annual Scientific Meeting. The three day program (31 October 2 November) will feature state of the art lectures by our invited speakers. Dr Ray Powrie, Associate Professor of Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Senior Vice President, Quality and Clinical Effectiveness, Women and Infants Hospital, Providence Rhode Island, USA Dr Peter Damm, Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Chief Physician, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University Hospital of Copenhagen, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark The three day program will include clinical updates and refreshers in the format of lectures, workshops, interesting case presentation and scientific free communications sessions. A range of obstetric medicine and diabetes in pregnancy related topics will be discussed with entertaining and informative debates on controversial issues. Abstracts will be called for scientific and clinical case presentations with a deadline of 12 September We are sure that physicians, anaesthetists, maternal-fetal medicine sub-specialists, specialist obstetricians, midwives, diabetic educators, researchers, and trainees will find the program of great value. 5 SOMANZ / ADIPS 2008 instructions Instructions for Preparation and Submission of Abstracts SOMANZ / ADIPS 2008 Combined Annual Scientific Meeting Hilton Adelaide, South Australia 31 October 2 November 2008 Submission Deadline: 12 September Typing Instructions All abstracts are to be submitted electronically. There is no editing or proof reading process. The following instructions have been designed to assist you in preparing your abstract to ensure that the reproduction in the conference proceedings is of high quality. There will not be an official abstract form. Type within a rectangle 12.5cm wide and 16cm high. The font used should be Arial 10 point. Use single line spacing. The title should be in capitals at the top of the abstract. Underline author s names. The name of the presenting author should be indicated by an asterisk (*). The authors names should be followed by their institution. The abbreviations ACT, NSW, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC and NZ are acceptable. A single blank line should separate the header block and the main text. Standard abbreviations may be used. Special or unusual abbreviations must be placed in parentheses after the first use of the full word. If references are cited they should be listed at the foot of the abstract. They should be separated from the main body by a single blank line. Do not indent. 2. Instructions of Content for Scientific Abstracts The abstract should contain: The study s objective; A statement of methods used; A summary of results; Conclusions. Tables are permitted, but only within the allocated space. 3. Instructions for Submitting Clinical Cases for Discussion Interesting clinical cases can be submitted for consideration for discussion. Please limit to 150 words. 4. Poster Presentations There will be no formal poster session however posters are welcomed. Please submit an abstract in the same format as for oral presentations and indicate your preference for oral or poster. 5. The cost includes a three course dinner. Drinks can be purchased on the night. All delegates must indicate on the registration form if they will be attending this function. NB This function is not included in the full SOMANZ/ADIPS registration. Refunds will only be issued in exceptional circumstances after this date, but substitute delegates are acceptable. Payment of Fees Payment can be made by credit card (Visa and Mastercard are the only cards accepted) or by personal or organisation cheque. Please make cheques in Australian Dollars payable to: Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand All registrations will be acknowledged in writing. If you do not receive a written acknowledgement within 14 days of despatch of your form, please contact the Secretariat to ensure that your details have been received. Please fax a copy of your form to the Secretariat if it is being processed through a large organisation. We suggest you make a copy of this form for your own records. 7 SOMANZ / ADIPS 2008 information Federal Goods & Services Tax (GST) Australia has a Federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 10%. Overseas delegates are not exempt from paying this tax. All fees and costs quoted in the brochure are GST inclusive. The SOMANZ is registered for GST - the ABN is Upon payment of the registration fee, the registration form becomes a tax invoice. Liability In case of industrial disruption or other external events causing disruption to the meeting, the Organising Committee of the ASM accepts no responsibility for loss of monies incurred by delegates. Privacy Personal information, as defined under the national privacy legislation, The Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2001, will be treated in accordance with the National Privacy Principles and only shared with related or third parties in accordance with those principles. Disclaimer The Conference Programme and registration information is correct at the time of printing. However, the organisers reserve the right to change the information where necessary without notice. Membership You can obtain further information regarding membership, and membership application forms, from each Society s website Both societies will be on-site during the meeting to assist with membership information and the updating of information. Accommodation Please state your arrival and departure dates and enclose one night s accommodation payment with your registration. The deposit is forwarded to the hotel and you are responsible for paying the balance on your departure. If your choice of room is unavailable, the Secretariat will try to place you in accommodation of similar standard and price. The Secretariat will not accept accommodation bookings after 29 September After that date delegates must make their own arrangements directly with the hotels. These rates are available only by booking through the SOMANZ/ADIPS Meeting Secretariat. Early reservations are encouraged. Reservations are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed. The special conference accommodation rate is available for extended stays. Rooms are not guaranteed for check in before 1400 hours. To ensure your immediate occupation of your room on arrival if prior to 1400 hours, you may pre-register your room (book and pay for the night before). Please indicate on your registration form. All accommodation rates include 10% GST. A tax invoice for accommodation will be issued by the hotel upon checkout. A deposit of at least one night s tariff is required to secure your booking. Accommodation CANNOT BE BOOKED unless at least one night s tariff is received. Alternatively, your credit card details can be passed on to the hotel to secure your booking. Change of Accommodation Booking Any change to, or cancellation of, an accommodation booking must be made in writing to the Meeting Secretariat and not directly to the hotel. Last minute changes to accommodation will only be accepted at the discretion of the Meeting Secretariat subject to individual circumstances and hotel policy. The parking station is located above the Central Market. Cars can enter either from Grote St or Gouger St. The height clearance of the Grote St entrance is 2060mm. The Car Park is open from 6.30 am 1.00 am on Friday and Saturday at various rates however there is free parking on Sunday from 9.00 am 10 pm.
