2 Introduction Encouraging our oca community to stay heathy is an important part of our roe here at Derby Teaching Hospitas. Our Trave Pan pays an important part in this, supporting our staff in using aternative forms of transport. As one of Derby s biggest empoyers we fee a responsibiity to promote sustainabe transport. We are successfuy encouraging as many of our staff as possibe to eave the car at home and take the bus, wak or cyce to and from work. The benefits are huge, for our own heath and we-being, as we as for the environment. In recent years we have worked hard to create viabe aternatives and we continue to work with oca trave companies to offer discounts and incentives to promote sustainabe trave. Our progress continues, with growing recognition for the work we re doing for exampe our Trave Pan won nationa recognition recenty in the NHS Sustainabiity Awards. The Trust was aso awarded God Accreditation in the Connected Business Awards for our work to promote heathy and sustainabe ways to trave to work. I am deighted to make my own sma contribution I m passionate about cycing and I commute by train, carrying my fod up bike which I then use to cyce to the Roya Derby Hospita. I want to congratuate the team behind this Trave Pan for their enthusiasm and commitment to what is such an important cause heping to keep our peope and our panet heathy! 3 Background When our two hospitas merged in 2008 the Roya Derby Hospita was met with the chaenge of how our staff woud trave to work. Whist the car is often the primary means of trave for staff, due to 24 hour working practices, shift patterns and a high proportion of femae staff for exampe, car parking probems were overshadowing the otherwise positive new hospita experience for both staff and patients. The Trust s panning obigations for the Roya Derby Hospita Site and Manor Car Park required us to achieve a singe occupancy vehice (SOV) target of 48% by Our first Trave Pan was pubished in 2010 and over the years we have met our targets reducing our SOV and encouraging more of our staff to commute to and from work using sustainabe modes of transport. It has been through hard work and dedication to keep our trave pan active and having good reationships with our stakehoders to enabe us to get the best resuts and this has been recognised over the years with us winning and coming runners up at the NHS Sustainabiity Awards, the Pubic Sector Sustainabiity Awards, Heath Business Awards and Derby Connected Business Awards. So we can understand what our staff transport requirements are we carry out a staff trave survey every year during March. This heps us to review and improve what we have in pace and how we can support our staff, patients and visitors coming to our hospita. It is our aim to infuence and support sustainabe behaviour change by encouraging staff and patients to choose the heathy option and reduce their carbon footprint by using more sustainabe modes of transport. It is cear that good progress has been made in reducing staff car use in recent years at both hospita sites from the resuts in 2015/16 we have reduced our SOV to 48% which in itsef is a huge achievement. In 2010 our first trave pan resuts showed 59% of staff was traveing aone in their car thus giving us a reduction of 11%. Pubic transport usage has risen by 7% since 2010 which has exceeded our target, which is due to our improved pubic transport inks to the hospita and our staff incentives we have secured with the oca bus companies. Waking and cycing has stayed reativey the same, but during the warmer months of the year cycing and waking does increase. The positive impact we can therefore have on the oca community and environment as we as individua s ifestye choice and webeing is tremendous. We have integrated our trave initiatives into our overa a staff heath and webeing programme caed Get Heathy Stay Heathy. Staff have said by waking and cycing to work they are more energised and ready to start their day. In 2015 more than 500 staff participated in our awareness weeks. The impact of this change has been demonstrated with achievement of the Carbon Trust Standard and ong asting partnerships within the oca community. So whats new since our ast Trave Summary? For our 2016 Trave Pan we wanted to make it reevant to everyone who traves to our hospitas to provide our staff, patients and visitors a range of aternative methods of traveing to their pace of work, appointment or to visit a patient without using their car. Our New Chief Executive Gavin Boye eading the way on sustainabe trave I trave each day from Sheffied to Derby on the train and then cyce from Derby train station to the Roya Derby Hospita on my Brompton bike. I find it so much quicker and stress free than traveing in my car and sitting in queues of traffic. I get time to reax and read my book on the train before cycing about 20 minutes up to the hospita. I am a keen cycist and this gives me the opportunity to keep my fitness eves up and motivates me for my day ahead. Trave App We recognise that sometimes the car is the ony mode of transport avaiabe, so we have deveoped a Trave app that wi give you rea time information of how many spaces are avaiabe to park in our car parks, giving information on parking prices, disabed parking and genera car parking information. The App wi aso ink you to the Trent Barton bus webpage where you wi be abe to downoad a ½ price zig zag ticket (imited time ony). You wi be abe to book a taxi through the App, using the Trust s preferred taxi provider.you wi receive a 5% discount to and from both hospitas when you book through the app. Eectric Car Charging points We have 3 Charging Points ocated at both the Roya Derby Hospita and London Road Community Hospita. To use the charging points you must be registered with Charge Your Car. 4 Trave Summary continued Roya Derby Bus The Roya Derby buses now serve Derby train station in the morning between 05.28am 07.17am and in the evening on imited services (pease check the Roya Derby Bus timetabe before traveing) Arriva 5/5a/6/6a The Arriva 5/5a/6/6a now operates a 15 minutes service to the Roya Derby Hospita from the city centre and serves Litteover, Cavendish and Sunny Hi. Mango Cards The Mango card offers a 15% discount per journey on any Trent Barton service. You can top up your mango card on the bus when your credit is ow simpy te the driver you wish to topup and choose the amount you wish to top-up, which must be at east 10 and a mutipe of 5. There is a 50p charge added for a on bus top-ups. This wi be automaticay deducted from your top-up amount. Whees to Work Staff who ive in Derby who want to cyce to work and don t aready have a bike coud be eigibe to a 50 voucher to buy a reconditioned bike or to put towards a new bike with the Whees to work scheme. Bike Back Derby Bike Back Derby ses refurbished bikes to the pubic and aso asks for bike donations. Look out for them at our 2 Whees 2 Work week and Leave your car at home week. Parking Partners Car parking We have increased our Parking Partners parking spaces to accommodate more of our staff signing up for the scheme. If you know someone you can share your journey to work with and you both have a car and meet a the criteria you coud quaify for parking partners. Trust Induction We hod a Trave Stand at every Trust Induction giving our new empoyees vauabe information on trave aternatives, discounts and promotions. Roya Derby Bus Drivers A the Roya Derby bus drivers have received bespoke training for patient experience and knowedge of a the offers and rues for staff using the Roya Derby bus. Staff Engagement Each year the Trust hods awareness weeks as part of the Annua Trave Pan Initiative Programme where Derby Teaching Hospitas staff are encouraged to eave their cars at home and try sustainabe modes of transport. Last year more than 300 staff members participated in Pubic Transport 2 work, Cyce 2 work, Wak 2 work and eave your car at home weeks which incuded taster bus tickets, 50 vouchers to purchase a bike, bike donations and bike saes, Dr Bike, Persona Trave Panning and bus information stands with oca transport providers. Stakehoder Engagement Our Transport Working Group meets on a quartery basis and reports back to the Carbon Management and Sustainabiity Steering Group. The group comprises of staff representatives from the Unions, representatives from Derby City Counci and the Trusts Transport & Sustainabiity Officer and Car Parking Manager. The group ensures there is a baanced approach to meet the needs of recruitment of staff and a reduction in the dependency on the car, whist deivering opportunities for transport options. This group has payed an active part in working with staff for the benefit of the wider community. The Trust is a member of Derby s Sustainabe Transport Partnership which meets on a quartery basis and the Transport & Sustainabiity Officer has payed an active part of working with Derby City Counci to support and win the LSTF (Loca Sustainabe Transport Fund) bid. Engagement with the Loca Community The Trust recognises that since the move to the Roya Derby Hospita, there have been car parking probems offsite with Roya Derby Hospita staff parking on residentia streets cose to the site. The Trust are keen to reduce their impact on oca residents and senior members of Trust staff attend meetings of the Litteover Ward and St Abans Ward Neighbourhood Forum (which meet quartery) and the Derby City Counci and Litteover Parking Sub Group (which meet bi-monthy). Staff may think we do not do anything with the information we receive or we have no authority to improve our transport inks but this is not the case. From the information you have tod us we feed this back to our oca transport companies and to Derby City Counci (Connected) and this heps us and them improve our transport inks and heps sustain our discounts and offers. Based on this years resut our survey shows 42% of our staff who drive to work tod us pubic transport was poor where they ived. This information wi be fed back to our oca bus providers to see if there are any options for services to be improved. When asked what woud encourage staff to trave by pubic transport 56% of staff said ower ticket prices. We do have various offers on bus passes from Trent Barton and Arriva. There is aso the Spectrum card that is avaiabe to use on various bus providers in the Derby area. 27% said better connections between bus services. Trent Barton have introduced a joined up ticket on the Harequin and Roya Derby bus. So staff, patients and visitors traveing from Heatherton Viage wi be abe to purchase a two way ticket for 4:80. Staff were asked what woud encourage them to cyce to work 58% answered for improved or safer routes. The Transport & Sustainabiity Officer is constanty putting forward for safer cyce route to the Roya Derby Hospita at the Derby Cyce Forum and at the Sustainabe Transport Partnership meetings. 6 Our Action Pan Progress A range of indicative measures were identified in our origina 2010 Trave Pan to meet our mode share targets. The Trust has deveoped these ideas into a forma and detaied project programme for impementation. Tabe 2 provides detais of what the measures are, when they coud be deivered (dependent upon funding being avaiabe) and who is responsibe for their deivery. This highights the requirement for partnership working that is required between the Trust, Derby City Counci and Pubic Transport Operators in deivering the Trave Pan. It is cear that we have made significant progress in addressing many of the measures required to successfuy deiver our Trave Pan. Out of 75 actions: 67 (90%) are compete 5 (7%) are in progress 2 (3%) are either sti part of our ong-term pan or we are unabe to progress further due to externa factors e.g. Look into bus services to connect Roya Derby Hospita with existing and potentia Park & Ride sites. Derby Teaching Hospitas are justifiaby proud that a majority of targets set for us in the origina trave pan have been achieved. This shows we are keeping our Trave Pan active and it is working effectivey and that we are committed to buiding a sustainabe future in reducing congestion and greenhouse gas emissions and promoting heath benefits too. The impact of this change has been demonstrated with reduced sickness absence of staff, winning awards nationay, achievement of the Carbon Trust Standard and ong asting partnerships within the oca community. The Trust has over 8,700 staff and treats over one miion patients every year. The positive impact we can therefore have on the oca community and environment as we as individua s ifestye choice and webeing is tremendous. We have come aong way from 2012 when our SOV was 63% and we have reduced this to 48% of our staff traveing to work aone. Pubic transport has increased to 23% but with more incentives in the future we hope to encourage more staff to trave to work by pubic transport. Last year for our trave incentive weeks we had many new events happening and new stakehoders coming on board to hep us promote our trave Pan, this has heped us sustain our campaign to infuence behaviour change which hep promote a modes of sustainabe transport options. We have integrated our trave initiatives into our overa a staff heath and webeing programme caed Get Heathy Stay Heathy. Staff have said by waking and cycing to work they are more energised and ready to start their day. Last year more than 300 staff participated in our awareness weeks. The resut of our trave mode share has been achieved through investing time and resources into the foowing initiatives, incuding: 12 Free Entries into the Manor Car Park for Reguar Cycists Staff that reguary cyce to work and don t have a car parking permit woud automaticay quaify for tweve free car parking entries to the Manor Car Park. This can be upgraded to 24 entries for an annua payment of 24 and 48 entries for an annua payment of 48. The transponders are not vaid for any other car parks (incuding car park 6A) and are vaid for tweve months from the date issued. There wi be a 15 deposit (refundabe on return of transponder). This service can be utiised by on ca staff that cyce to work but prefer to use their car when providing an on ca and out of hour s service. Roya Derby Link Bus; a 12 minute service (buses may run up to every 15 minutes depending on traffic) between the Roya Derby Hospita, the City Centre and London Road Community Hospita and now ink to Derby Train Station in the mornings and evenings. Arriva 5/5a/6/6a; Arriva 5/5a/6/6a operates a 15 minutes service to the Roya Derby Hospita from the city centre and serves Litteover, Cavendish and Sunny Hi. Trave Zone; situated in the main entrance foyer of the Roya Derby Hospita and provides staff, patients and visitors access to pubic transport information, cyce maps and other reevant information. Refurbished staff changing rooms at London Road Community Hospita; the Trust was awarded 10,000 funding from the LSTF for buying new ockers and painting the staff changing rooms at London Road Community Hospita. A new secure cyce sheter at London Road Community Hospita; a secure cyce sheter has been instaed at the main entrance at the London Road Community Hospita. Additiona motorcyce parking; a tota of 68 marked motorcyce parking spaces and two motorcyce sheters for staff and visitors to use at the Roya Derby Hospita and 6 marked motorcyce parking spaces and one motorcyce sheters for staff and visitors to use at the London Road Community Hospita. Whees to Work Staff who ive in Derby who want to cyce to work and don t aready have a bike coud be eigibe to a 100 voucher to buy a reconditioned bike or to put towards a new bike with the Whees to work scheme. Bike Back Derby Bike Back Derby ses refurbished bikes to the pubic and aso asks for bike donations. Look out for them at our 2 Whees 2 Work week and Leave your car at home week or visit them on Cana Street Derby Cyce2Work Scheme for Trust empoyees: enabing staff to purchase a bicyce and associated equipment through a saary sacrifice scheme which saves them up to 50% on the tota cost. This scheme is now open a year round. Staff are abe to temporariy suspend their car parking contributions for a minimum of 4 months to try aternative trave such as cyce. Parking Partners; a dedicated in-house Car Share scheme for Trust staff which offers shared parking contributions & a dedicated car parking space. Eectric Charging Points Derby Hospitas has 3 Charging Points ocated in: Car park 3 Roya derby Hospita - Free charging but car park charges appy Staff Manor Car Park - Free for Permit Hoders Main Entrance London Road Community Hospita - 1:50 per kwh. To use the charging points you must be registered with Charge Your Car. Discounted Staff & Pubic Transport initiatives with oca transport companies; the Super Commuter scheme for staff and Mango passes in conjunction with Trent Barton which offers staff a range of money saving ticket options for bus trave. Staff who use Arriva bus services are abe to take advantage of 10% discount on various trave passes. Muti operator bus card; the Spectrum ticket can be used on Arriva, Trent Barton, Notts & Derby, Kinch and Littes services. The tickets aow unimited day trave within the Derby City area and buit up area of South Derbyshire immediatey adjacent to the boundary of Shardow Road and Stenson Fieds. Annua Trave initiatives weeks; an annua programme of events to raise awareness of aternative modes of transport to singe occupancy vehice trave. Promoting Sustainabe trave to new empoyees; On Staff Induction days a trave stand is avaiabe in the market pace (foyer). This has proved very popuar to the new starters taking the trave summary s away with them and heping staff with bus routes and cyce routes to get here. It was aso good for promoting discounts and what faciities we have for sustainabe trave. Mango cards are avaiabe for staff and staff are abe to sign up for the Super Commuter bus pass. By 2026, the City of Derby has a vision to keep Derby moving sustainaby and seamessy and Derby Teaching Hospitas is proud and committed to be a key partner in deivering this vision.
