Coumbia Association s camps are the perfect way to make sure your chid comes home each day with a smie on their face. There are so many ways to have a great summer, whether it is getting out in nature, padding canoes as the sun beams down, expressing yoursef through artwork and performances, paying sports for fun and to enhance your skis, earning through fun and constructive S.T.E.A.M. activities, etting an arrow fy and hitting a buseye or making a difference by vounteering in the community. CAMPER TO STAFF RATIO CA camps operate group activities whie maintaining staff to camper ratios in accordance with Maryand Department of Heath and Menta Hygiene (DHMH) and American Camp Association (ACA) standards: pre-k 1: 6; eementary and midde schoo 1:10; high schoo 1:10. Whie CA endeavors to provide as much speciaized attention as needed to accommo date chidren with specia needs, we are unabe to provide 1:1 care or individua companions. Campers wi receive additiona information on the first day of each camp session. Parents are encouraged to discuss questions or concerns with the camp director or counseor. American Camp Association Accreditation and Certification Coumbia Association (CA) offers summer camps that are certified and reguated by the DHMH and fuy accredited by the ACA. The ACA insignia is equated with professiona quaity, and ony camps that have met these high standards are awarded the insignia. Professiona camp, supervisory and administrative staff consist of schoo teachers and other professionas who are experienced in working with chidren. Access to Nature Camp is a speciay designed incusion program for campers with disabiities that offers modified versions of camp activities. At Nature Camp, one of CA s most popuar camps, our Access campers participate aongside their peers in activities such as canoeing, archery, fishing, sports, crafts, recreationa swimming and more. Canoeing and archery are ed by certified instructors and modified with safety and accessibiity in mind. Depending on the session, campers may participate in a fied trip to nearby nature centers or farms. This is truy an outdoor camp, but campers are kept coo with swimming, water games, snow cones and sip and sides. Reief from the sun can be found in our barn and boathouse as we. Campers wi have opportunities throughout the day to participate in camp activities with same-age, non-disabed peers, creating a truy incusive camp. Midde schoo-age campers participate in activities with our midde schoo Nature Camp. Peer interactions and friendship buiding wi be faciitated by camp staff. Access to Nature Camp is staffed with trained empoyees who have experience working with chidren with specia needs. Many of our empoyees work for area schoo districts and are committed to enhancing the ives of chidren with disabiities. Access to Nature Camp wi provide a ow staff-to-camper ratio of 1:2 in order to best meet the needs of our campers. Every new camper and parent/guardian must participate in an entrance interview with camp staff prior to enroment to ensure a proper fit and to deveop reasonabe modification of daiy activities. Past projects have served Grassroots, the Howard County Conservancy, Days End Farm Horse Rescue, Howard County Office on Aging and more. Service projects are subject to change. Take the next steps with our most popuar Nature Camp activities and expore these skis in new environments. Campers may canoe down the Patapsco River or on the Chesapeake Bay, shoot archery at Gunpowder State Park or buid campfires. New nature activities may incude geocaching, nature surviva, no-trace camping, tubing, rock cimbing or saiing and wi vary from session to session. Campers wi have an opportunity to trave to other skate parks during the week to experience unique ramp eements. The mission of the tennis portion is to provide a highy organized, active and energetic environment featuring a Ray and Pay, game-based approach. Staffing is based upon camp enroment. Refund poicy The $50 registration fee is nonrefundabe, uness the entire camp is canceed by CA. Refunds are granted as foows: Eary withdrawas before June 1 Prior to June 1, refunds are granted for vountary withdrawa from camp (ess $50 registration fee). A requests must be submitted in writing. On or after June 2 Refunds are granted ony if the camper is injured, moves out of Howard County or is required to attend mandatory summer schoo, causing them to miss camp. Written refund requests with supporting documentation (doctor s note, notification of mandatory summer schoo or change of address form stamped by the post office) must be received in the Camps office within one week of the injury, notification of move or summer schoo requirement. There are no refunds for weather, missed days due to persona scheduing conficts or camper sick days. If CA disenros a camper for discipinary reasons, no refund wi be granted. Extended care Withdrawa from the extended care program requires written notification. A fu refund of extended care wi be issued for requests received within 10 business days of the camp session beginning. Refunds wi not be granted for extended care withdrawa requests received fewer than 10 business days prior to the camp session beginning. Switching camps after June 1 Switching to a different camp is permitted if there is sti space avaiabe. EXTENDED CARE Extended care is avaiabe at the camp or an off-site ocation for an additiona fee. Extended care may be added unti noon the Friday prior to the start of camp. After that, it wi be considered Urgent Extended Care and wi be charged at the Urgent Extended Care rates. Campers are offered a variety of activities that may incude arts and crafts, music, games and sports. The morning (am) session begins at 7am. For off-site care, chidren are accepted unti 8:15am, when they are transported to the camp site. The evening (pm) session ends at 6pm. Snacks are offered in both sessions. Extended care operates in conjunction with camp sessions. Faiure to participate in the program or to make payments does not constitute a withdrawa from the extended care program, nor does it reease the financia obigation. Pease note: Extended care and its costs cannot be spit between sessions or prorated. CAMP HOURS A camps begin at 8:30am and end at 4pm. Campers may be dropped off no earier than 8:15am. Campers dropped off prior to 8:15am who are not registered for am care wi be charged the urgent extended care fee of $15 per day, per camper. Extended care hours are 7-8:30am and 4-6pm. Meet and greet Pease join us at KidsDay on Saturday, June 9 at Coumbia SportsPark from 10am-2pm. Enjoy entertain ment, giveaways and vendors. Parents/guardians wi have the opportunity to ask questions and obtain detaied camp information. Schedue Campers wi be given a compete schedue of camp activities on the first day of camp. Keep this schedue handy in case of questions or emergencies. Incement weather Adjustments are made to the camp schedue on incement weather days (storms, extremey hot or rainy days). Each camp has a separate schedue of events. If you have questions about these days, pease speak with the camp director. Camp drop-off and pick-up wi aways be from the camp site/extended care site regardess of the weather. A camp programs have incement day activities panned and/or a faciity avaiabe to escape the eements campers shoud not hesitate to attend camp due to weather. Pease have your camper dress appropriatey for the outdoor conditions by wearing or bringing a raincoat on rainy days. Lost and found If during the camp season your camper oses anything, pease check the ost and found box ocated at each camp site. After each session, items wi then be moved to the CA Camps office. If your camper ost something during the camp season, pease contact us as soon as possibe. A items wi be discarded at the end of the camp season. Persona items A persona items, incuding cothing, bathing suits, towes and unches, shoud be abeed with the camper s name. Campers shoud not bring toys, ce phones, eectronic or other persona items to camp. CA is not responsibe for toys or other persona items chidren bring to the program. What to wear Campers must wear cosed-toed shoes. It is suggested that campers wear oose-fitting, comfortabe cothing and socks. Open-toed shoes, Crocs and fip-fops are not permitted. A hat and sunscreen are recommended for outdoor activities. Campers shoud appy a high UVA protection sunscreen before camp and bring extra sunscreen in a backpack or bag. Campers registered for camps that incude swimming need to bring a bathing suit and towe. Lunches Campers shoud bring a heathy, energizing, nonperishabe unch each day. Keep in mind that camps do not provide refrigeration. We suggest therma bags, sma cooers or ice packs to hep keep unches coo. Pease be sure to abe your camper s unch. Pease note: Since many campers have severe peanut aergies, we encourage a campers to bring ony peanut-free products, and we do not permit campers to share food. Campers are encouraged to bring a fu water botte each day; water is avaiabe throughout the day for refis or campers who forget their water bottes. HEALTH AND SAFETY In a CA camps, heath and safety is of the utmost importance. Each camp has at east two staff members certified in standard first aid and CPR. Emergency procedures are routiney reviewed to ensure the safety of campers. Camper swim assessment Camper swim assessments conducted by CA Aquatics staff wi be done each session. 18 swimming and essons wi test for specific skis (e.g. prone foat, front craw, backstroke, etc.) in order to pace campers into the proper instructiona group. After competing their assessment screening, campers must remain within their ski-based areas (as designated by Aquatics staff) whie in the poo. These areas wi be marked/abeed and the Aquatics staff and Camps staff wi work together in enforcing compiance with these reguations. Campers who pass the swim assessment wi be issued a green band and wi be aowed to use a areas of the poo. Those who do not pass wi be given a ife vest and wi be abe to use the main poo. Life vests are optiona for the wading poo. Specia care It is our goa to ensure a campers have a successfu and enjoyabe experience at camp. We understand that some chidren may have medica or behaviora conditions that require additiona attention. In order to provide a safe environment for chidren with specia medica needs and a suitabe environment for chidren who may require behaviora adaptations, it is imperative that parents discose any specia medica or behaviora needs (aergies, asthma, ADD/ADHD, etc.) of their camper on the registration form. The registration forms wi be reviewed and the parent/guardian contacted if additiona information is needed. It is unikey that campers with asthma, ADD/ADHD, or aergies wi be contacted since these are very common conditions. However, parents are aways free to contact the camp staff prior to the beginning of camp to discuss any concerns they may have. Parents shoud aso compete a Specia Care Form (CoumbiaCamps.org) and bring it to the camp director or counseor on the first day of camp. Our camp staff receives basic training in working with chidren who require specia medica care or who may require some behaviora interventions. The information requested wi assist the staff in best serving the camper by heping them understand the chid s situation and hep them in making accommodations. Whie CA Camps endeavors to provide as much speciaized attention as needed to accommodate chidren with specia needs, CA is unabe to provide 1:1 care or individua companions. Pease see Access to Nature Camp (page 2) for more information about our incusion camps or ca to discuss any additiona concerns with the Camps Manager. Behavior probems CA Camps staff members are trained in positive discipine techniques. Simpe, reaistic rues are estabished and reviewed continuousy with the campers. Every effort is made to hande discipine probems in a positive manner However, any camper who is constanty disruptive or who exhibits aggressive or abusive behavior may be suspended for up to three days. Buying of any kind wi not be toerated. Continuation of such behavior, or behavior that is determined to be severey abusive or disruptive, may resut in permanent remova from camp. CA reserves the right to suspend and/or terminate participation by a camper in any CA camp for inappropriate or abusive behavior. No refunds, credits or adjustments are given for unused time. Iness According to DHMH reguations, chidren who show signs of a communicabe disease cannot remain in our program. Staff wi contact the parent/guardian shoud your chid or chidren become i during camp. If the parent/guardian cannot be reached, the emergency contact person isted on the camper s registration form wi be caed. It is expected that chidren who are i wi be picked up within 45 minutes once contact is made. Refunds are not given for days missed due to routine chidhood inesses. See page 14 for the refund poicy. Medication A medication (prescription and/or over-the-counter): Must be in the origina container. Prescription medication must contain a prescription abe. Must be picked up by the parent/guardian on the ast day of each session, even if the camper wi be attending the next session at the same site. Wi ony be administered in accordance with the instructions on the abe. Must be accompanied by a Medication Order Form (CoumbiaCamps.org). Medication eft at the camp/extended care site wi be disposed of if not picked up within one week after the session ends. PLEASE NOTE: Medication Order Form must be competed by a parent/guardian and signed by a physician. If medication is to be administered at both extended care and the camp, a form and separate containers of medication must be provided for each ocation. Photocopied forms are acceptabe. Medication cannot be transported between extended care and camp Immunization records Preschoo-aged chidren and campers not enroed in the Maryand Pubic Schoo System for the schoo year must submit a copy of their immunization records to the Camps office with his/her registration form. Signing campers in and out For safety purposes, chidren must be accompanied to the camp/extended care and signed in by a parent/guardian or authorized adut. Under no circumstance shoud a camper be permitted to enter the program aone. Pease be prepared to stay a few minutes onger on the first day of each camp session to meet counseors and verify emergency information (doctor s name and number, aergies, medications etc.). When the authorized person arrives to pick up his/her camper, he/she must come into the program space and sign out the camper. Written permission is required before a chid may be reeased to someone other than a parent, guardian or emergency contact.
