1 Deseret Peak Cub Camporee Pirates of the Cari-beaner (Webelos) Leaders Guide Day Camp this year will be held between Pratt Aquatic Center at 55 North 200 West (Friday morning) and Elton City Park on 400 North & Broadway in Tooele. Camp will be in session from 9:00 am 3:00 pm, with check in starting at 8:15 am. CHECK IN At check in, you will be required to bring the following: It is required from BSA that all youth and adults must fill out a Medical Form o Unit Roster for those youth attending the event. Map for event will be provided at check in As leaders, YOU will be responsible for entertaining your Cub Scouts until camp opening ceremonies begin at 9:00 am. CAMP RULES There will be NO refunds rain or shine, cub camp will be held. All participants will be required to wear an identification band. Please only scouts and leaders at this event. No pets will be allowed NO registered youth will be allowed to leave early unless a parent comes to pick them up. Knives are not allowed. There will be an opportunity to purchase knives at the Trading Post, but they are to remain with the adult leader until the youth is dropped off at home 2-deep leadership is REQUIRED at ALL times and must remain with your group. If a leader needs to leave, you MUST have another leader to cover (2 leaders for up to 10 youth, 3 for 11-15, and 4 for 16-20). Youth must practice the Buddy System at all times. 2 EMERGENCY PROCEDURES In case of severe weather, please do the following: o Severe rain or hail: Take cover. Move to the best and nearest shelter available in pavilions or tents, o Severe electrical storm: Stay away from high trees, playground equipment Lost Youth o Report lost boy to Camp Director/Staff immediately. o No one will be allowed to leave camp area until boy is found Health Emergencies o Report to First Aid station REQUIREMENTS TO BE PASSED OFF: This list is an approximation and things may change prior to camp. 3 POCKET KNIFE PERMISSION FORM Please fill out this form PRIOR to arriving at camp. NO youth will be sold a pocket knife without the permission of their parent or guardian. Have this form ready to turn in at check-in. In exchange, each youth that has been given permission to purchase a pocket knife will be given one wristband to be worn the entire camp session. NO wristbands will be replaced. Leader must be present to purchase. Once it s purchased, the knife must be given directly to an adult leader who is to store the knife until the end of camp when the youth is dropped off at his home. 5 PARENTAL INFORMED CONSENT AGREEMENT FOR CLIMBING/RAPPELLING ACTIVITIES I understand that participation in the climbing/rappelling activity offered through District 8 Cub Camporee on (date), involves a certain degree of risk that result in injury or death. In consideration of the benefits to be derived and after carefully considering the risk involved, and in view of the fact that the Boy Scouts of America is an organization in which membership is voluntary, and having full confidence that precautions will be taken to ensure the safety and will-being of my (son/daughter), I have given (name) (my son/daughter) my consent to participate in (activity) on (date). You are about to take part in a climbing experience. While climbing/rappelling, you will undertake a wide variety of physical and mental challenges in an environment designed with safety in mind. Many participants ask about the physical requirements for taking part in the activity. We find that the best way to answer this question is to compare course activities to a variety of common pastimes with which many of us are familiar. For most of the time, you will be undertaking activity that is best described as moderate exertion. This is comparable to normal walking, golfing on foot, downhill skiing, raking leaves, waiting tables, fishing, calisthenics, hanging wallpaper, interior painting, or slow dancing. There will be some situations where, for a few minutes, you will be engaged in vigorous exertion. This is comparable to slow jogging, speed-walking, tennis, swimming, crosscountry skiing, shoveling snow, fast biking, mowing with a push mower, pruning trees, heavy gardening, overhead work, ice hockey drill, softball, laying bricks, hurried restaurant work or climbing a ladder. If these types of activities are difficult for you, we would like to have you discuss your participation in the activity with a physician who knows your health history. If these are activities in which you regularly engage without difficulty, you should be fit for participation. Lastly, there are a few specific medical conditions about which participants should always seek advice from their physicians before engaging in climbing/rappelling. If any of these apply to you, you must consult with a physician before participating. If you or your physicians have any questions about these conditions or about climbing/rappelling activities, feel free to contact us. Pregnancy (the climbing harness can injure the uterus.) Kidney or liver transplant (The climbing harness can injure the transplanted organ.) Healing fracture or joint injury (You should be cleared by the treating physician.) Recent surgery (You should be cleared by the treating physician.) Down Syndrome (The participant should have an x-ray check for neck stability as per the recommendations of the Special Olympics.)
