3 What is a rdic Ecoabeed stove? A stove is ocated in the room that is to be heated and refects radiation of heat to a room. It may aso distribute heat as a suppementary function via a water or ventiation system. It is fired on soid biofue, that is wood, wood peets or, in some cases, an aternative biofue. Stoves incude heaters such as wood stoves, sow heat reease appiances such as tied stoves and stone-cad stoves, inset stoves and sauna stoves. The fue can be fed by hand or mechanicay. Wood is generay fed by hand whie peets are fed mechanicay. A stove contains the fire. Air is suppied through specia ducts and the air fow can often be reguated. As a rue, a stove does not provide the majority of a buiding s heating requirement; rather it usuay suppements another heat source. In energy efficient houses, however, a stove may cover a heating needs. The fue gas emissions produced by the stove are tested. If the stove is fired on peets, noise is aso tested. The suppier must provide cear user information as to how to operate and maintain the stove for optimum performance. A rdic Ecoabeed stove offers high efficiency and has ow emissions of partices, carbon monoxide (CO), organic gaseous carbon (OGC). The manufacturer must aso ensure that the instruction manua contains comprehensive information and recommends that the stove is instaed by a quaified fitter. The requirements in the rdic Ecoabe criteria on fue gas emissions are more stringent than the rwegian, Swedish, Danish and Finnish nationa reguations. rwegian and Danish aw reguations ony require partice tests and Swedish reguations ony hydrocarbon tests. There are no aw emission requirements in Finand. Why choose the rdic Ecoabe? The manufacturer and/or reseer may use the Swan trademark. The rdic Ecoabe, the Swan, is we known and commands high consumer confidence throughout the rdic region. The rdic Ecoabe is a cost-effective and simpe way to communicate that a stove is among the best on the market from an environmenta viewpoint and that it has been tested by a third-party aboratory. rdic Ecoabeing enabes manufacturers to reach a growing number of professiona and private consumers who wish to reduce their impact on the environment by using stove that produce the owest emission eves and genera environmenta impact. Environmenta issues are compex and it is difficut to compare the various parameters. For a ong time, municipaities and other users have sought an aid that provides credibe evauations. 4 What can carry the rdic Ecoabe? Stoves that are fired on soid biofues such as wood and peets, are eigibe for the rdic Ecoabeed. For exampe, woods stoves, sow heat reease appiances (e.g. tied stoves and stone-cad stoves), inset stoves and sauna stoves can be awarded the rdic Ecoabe. rdic Ecoabeed stoves for soid biofue are fueed by hand, with the exception of peet stoves which are mechanicay fed. Hand fed wood stoves may be foowed to temporary or to continuous firing. The stove may be a sow heat reease appiance or standard appiance. A sow heat reease stove normay stores the therma energy in a soid materia. There are aso sow heat reease stoves that store the heat in a water reservoir. These differ from water-jacketed stoves since they cannot be fired without water in the reservoir. Stoves that have a water jacket are not defined as sow heat reease appiances. They can be used both water fied and empty of water. The stoves are deat in the criteria document in severa groups which are based on their function as foows. Manufacturer must cassify a stove in the respective group. Foowing group are actua: A sow heat reease appiance is a stove which stores heat usuay in stone but in certain cases stores heat in the water reservoir. A hand fed stove for temporary firing is a stove which has be manufactured for to repenish the other heat source. A that kind of stove must not be fired round the day. A hand fed stove for continuous firing is a stove which can be fired round the day and which can be function as a main heat source e.g. in the ow energy house. A that kind of hand fed stove is usuay water-jacketed. A mechanicay fed stove has been manufactured for peet firing. A inset stove for open firing pace. A sauna oven is wood fired sauna stove. If soar coectors are deivered with a stove as a heating system the requirement is set for soar coector. Open firepaces, where the fire burns in an open space and stoves for iquid biofue, are not incuded in the product group. The definitions of stove types, with some exceptions, foow the actua EN-standards of stoves with some exceptions, specified under Definitions. How to appy A manufacturer or reseer may appy for a icence using the designated appication form. If a reseer appies for a icence, the manufacturer must aso sign the appication. A requirements must be fufied. The requirements are marked in this document with the etter R and consecutive numbers. Requirement checked on site Appication The appication sha be sent to rdic Ecoabeing in the country in which the stove is manufactured or sod. See page 2 for addresses. The documents required for appication are an appication form and documentation demonstrating fufiment of the requirements (specified under each requirement). Further information and assistance can be obtained during appication. Visit the Web site of the nationa ecoabeing body for more information. Saes in other rdic countries Registering a icence in another rdic country aows the rdic Ecoabe to be used on a arger market. The foowing must be submitted to rdic Ecoabeing: Appication form marked with the intended country of sae. The appicabe sections of the instaation manua and operating and maintenance instruction transated into the nationa anguage(s) (R15 and R16). Take-back system for packaging (R27). Registration is free of charge but an annua fee sha be paid in accordance with the nationa reguations. On-site inspection During the appication process, rdic Ecoabeing normay performs an on-site inspection at the manufacturing pant to ensure adherence to the requirements. For this inspection, the icensee must be abe to present data used for cacuations, origina copies of submitted certificates, test records, purchase statistics, and simiar documents that support the appication. This inspection aso covers the reevant sections of the quaity assurance process or documented procedures. Costs An appication fee is charged to companies appying for a icence. 6 1 Manufacture 1.1 Product requirements Are the requirements met? R1 Description of the manufacturing process A manufacturing process of the ecoabeed stove sha be described. A description sha east incude the foowing information: A name and pace for - the fabric(s) for manufacturing of stove - suppiers for surface treatment and meta coating - suppiers for other components which are deat by the requirements. A description of the manufacturing process for the stove specifying the various phases of process incuding ceaning technoogy. A production technoogy and ceaning technoogy for surface treatment and meta coating sha be given. Copy of environmenta authorization or contro reports of environmenta authorities for manufacturing. Give amounts of actua emissions from the past year. Manufacturing does not incude the primary production of stee, gass or pastic parts. Cast iron production is considered to occur if the producer of cast iron manufacture cast iron stoves. Cast iron parts for other stoves are not subject to the requirements. ( A description of the manufacturing process according to the requirement. R2 Materia requirements Manufacturer sha submit a compete ist of parts in the stove that specifies the constituent materias of each part. The ist sha incude sma parts such as screws, bots, rivets, pugs, washers, hinges and suchike. The materias and design sha compy with the pertinent requirements of the appicabe standard: EN (wood stoves), EN (peet stoves), EN (inset stoves), EN (sow heat reease appiances) or pren (sauna stoves). The requirements cover parameters such as thickness, strength and permitted surface temperature (safety). The description of materias approved by the test aboratory in connection with testing (see Section 1.1 of Appendix 1) may be used. For materia and fabrication fauts on the carrying construction of the stove, excuding interna components, sha have a minimum guarantee of 5 years under norma usage. Decaration from the manufacturer that the materia and design requirements are fufied. Appendix 3.2 may be used. R3 Cassification of chemica products Manufacturer sha submit a ist of chemicas used during the manufacture and surface treatment of the stove. Chemica products such as adhesives, seaants, ceaning agents, paints and acquers that are used during the manufacture and surface treatment of the stove, must not be cassified according to the risk phrases in the foowing tabe. Manufacturing does not incude the primary production of raw materia such as stee, cast iron, gass or pastic parts. Meta coating of parts is exempt from this requirement. Meta coating of parts must fufi R6. Exception is given aso for hardeners of paints/acquers where the hardener is cassified as R43 or H317. This exception can be given if security suppies are used when the hardener is mixed with paint/acquer and if spreading of the fina two component product (hardener + paint/acquer) is fufied in a cosed system. rdic Ecoabeing of Stoves (16)

R4 Chemica substances The foowing substances must not be activey added to chemica products such as adhesives, seaants, ceaning agents, paints and acquers that are used during the manufacture and surface treatment of the stove: Lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), hexavaent chrome (Cr VI ), cadmium (Cd) and their compounds Haogenated organic compounds Acyephenos, acyephenoethoxyates or other substances which may form acyephenos or acyephenoethoxyates Phthaates Manufacturing does not incude the primary production of stee, cast iron, gass or pastic parts. Meta coating of parts is exempt from this requirement. Meta coating of parts must fufi R6. Substances that are not activey added by a chemica producer or their suppiers and that are not found in concentrations exceeding 100 ppm are exempt from the requirement. 8 R5 Surface treatments containing organic sovents The appication and curing processes of surface treatments containing organic sovents sha be encosed or sha be done in the encosed room. The emission of organic sovents (VOC) during surface treatment or a) must not exceed 20% of the appied sovent or VOC emissions must not exceed 100 mg/m 3 b) producer sha give the pan for reduction of VOC emissions. If the aternative b is chosen and the consumption of the organic sovents (VOC) by surface treatment of the rdic Ecoabeed products is 500 kg per year or more it must be documented that it is not possibe by appication to insta a ceaning apparatus. Voatie organic compounds (VOC) are defined as organic compounds that at K have a vapour pressure of 0.01 kpa or greater. ( Description of the surface treatment process and settement of emission of organic sovents (VOC) during surface treatment by cacuations or measurements (see Appendix 3.2) or pan for reduction of VOC emissions if exception is used. Possiby a description on why it is not possibe to insta a ceaning apparatus. R6 Meta coating of parts Lead, mercury, cadmium, chrome and nicke additives must not be added during the meta coating of parts. Parts may be coated with chrome, nicke or compounds of these if this is justified due to high chemica or mechanica wear or another specific technica requirement. Chrome pating must be based on trivaent chrome. If performed, chrome and nicke pating must be performed using purification, ion exchange, membrane technique or simiar process to maximise the reuse of the chemica products. The emissions from coating must be recyced and destroyed. The system must be cosed and without a drain. ( Decaration from the manufacturer that the requirement on meta coatings is fufied. Specification of need for meta coating and of the purification process. Appendix 3.2 may be used. R7 Packaging It must be possibe to recyce or reuse the packaging materia. The manufacturer sha provide a description of the packaging and how this is deat with in the rdic countries in which the rdic Ecoabeed stove wi be sod. Chorinated pastics and timber that is treated with wood preservatives/ biocides must not be used in packaging. ( Description of the packaging and its disposa, as provided in the instaation manua, see R15. R8 Waste The manufacturer sha sort waste at source into the fractions that arise during production, such as wood, gass, pastic and meta. A waste management pan specifying waste fractions, how the waste is managed (for exampe recycing, andfi or incineration) sha be appended. 9 1.2 Periphera equipment Are the requirements met? R9 Soar coector If the heating system incudes a soar coector, this must be type approved according to EN ( Decaration from the manufacturer of the soar coector, see Appendix 4. R10 Fue peet hopper The manufacturer of a rdic Ecoabeed peet stove sha inform the customer of how storage faciities for the recommended fue shoud be designed to ensure that the quaity of the fue is not impacted when the fue peets are emptied into and stored in the customer s storage hopper. to ensure that carbon monoxide which eventuay emits from storing of peets does not cause a risk of heath or dancer to ife. ( Information must be provided in the instruction manua. 2 Operation of the rdic Ecoabeed stove Are the requirements met? A stove which is tested may not be fitted by partice fiter or catayzer in order to meet the requirements in R11-R13. R11 Air emissions The stove must not exceed the emission imit vaues for organic gaseous carbon (OGC), carbon monoxide (CO) and partices specified in Tabe 2. 10 The foowing conditions appy to testing. The test methods are described in Appendix 1. Hand fed sow heat reease appiance. Test at nomina heat output in accordance with: CEN/TS 15883:2009 for OGC emissions EN for CO emissions CEN/TS 15883:2009, Annex A.1 for partice emissions. Hand fed wood stove (for temporary or continuous firing) or inset stove. Test at nomina heat output for CO and OGC emissions, and at up to four heat outputs within burn rate categories for partices in accordance with: CEN/TS 15883:2009 for OGC emissions EN (wood stoves) or EN (inset stoves) for CO. NS 3058 and NS 3059 with cass 1 and 2 heat outputs for partice tests. Mechanicay fed peet stove. Test at nomina heat output for CO emissions, and at nomina heat output and two different partia heat outputs for OGC emissions and for partices in accordance with: CEN/TS 15883:2009 with nomina and partia heat outputs defined according to test methods described in appendix 1 for OGC emissions EN for CO emissions NS 3058 and NS 3059 with nomina and partia heat outputs defined according to test methods described in appendix 1 for partice tests. R12 Efficiency The efficiency of the appiance (η k ) when tested at nomina heat output in accordance with the pertinent EN standard, sha be at east: 83% for hand fed sow heat reease appiances, as per EN % for hand fed wood stoves for temporary firing (EN 13240) and inset stoves (EN 13229). 85% for mechanicay fed peet stoves as per EN and for hand fed wood stoves for continuous firing as per EN % for hand fed sauna stoves as per pren Requirements on aboratories, the testing of stoves and the measurement of efficiency are described in detai in Appendix 1. 11 R13 ise The noise eve from mechanicay fed stoves must not exceed 55 d(b)a during norma use measured according to ISO Requirements on aboratories are described in Appendix 1. ( Fu test report. R14 Decaration on the testing of emissions, efficiency and noise A aboratory sha certify that the stove is tested in accordance with the specifications in Appendix 1, Section 1.3 for R11-R13. The aboratory sha be accredited to perform the tests specified according to the Appendix 1, Section 1.2 Test aboratories. ( Decaration demonstrating the fufiment of the requirement. 3 Customer information Are the requirements met? R15 Instaation manua The stove sha be suppied with an instaation manua. The instaation manua sha be easy to understand and written in the nationa anguage of the rdic country in which the stove is instaed. The manua sha aso be found as written in the nationa anguage or in Engish on the internet. The manua sha incude the foowing information and recommendations: Instaation of stove and possibe partice fiter sha be performed as specified by a quaified fitter. Technica data for the stove (such as materia types, dimensions, weight, heat output). Necessary voume of air for combustion, air inet fow per m 3 per hour. Distance from combustibe materias. Space required for operation, maintenance and chimney sweeping. Guideines for the type of gas fue to which the stove can be connected with regard to fue gas temperature and the dimension incuding height and ocation of the gas fue cana/chimney. Guideines for the design of a storage vesse for peets, if such fue sha be used. How the storage of peets is designed in order to that a fue keeps its quaity by emptying and storing and that carbon monoxide which is possibe emitted from storing does not cause heath risk or danger to ife. Ventiation and instaation of sauna stoves in a sauna, with regard to the size of the sauna. How to dispose of packaging in the rdic countries where a stove is sod. 12 R16 Operating and maintenance instructions Operating and maintenance instructions sha be suppied with each suppied stove. The instructions sha be easy to understand and written in the nationa anguage of the rdic country in which the stove is sod. The instructions sha aso be found as written in the nationa anguage or in Engish on the internet. The instructions sha contain the foowing information: Information on cassification of stove for temporary firing or for continuous firing. How different fues (types, grades) infuence emissions. Suitabe fues for the stove and information that fossi fues shoud not be used. That rdic Ecoabeed peets shoud be used in peet stoves. Recommendations for the handing and storage of wood, peets and other possibe soid biofues. How the storage of peets is designed in order to that a fue keeps its quaity by emptying and storing and for that carbon monoxide which is possibe emitted from storing does not cause heath risk or danger to ife. How to ight a fire. Directions on aying the fire and maximum wood ength. Adjustment of air inet. How by what kind of measures it is secured the required air inet of air for combustion for a stove. How a ow air suppy can resut in poor combustion, high emissions and ow efficiency. Instructions on ceaning, inspection and maintenance of stove and possibe partice fiter. Instructions describing the recommended maintenance. Content of guarantee and period of vaidity in years sha be given. Guarantee sha meet the requirement in R2. ( Copy of the operation and maintenance instructions that are suppied with the stove to fitters and customers. 4 Information to reseers and fitters Are the requirements met? R17 Quaification requirements If the stove has a water jacket and a suppementary soar coector, the reseer must recommend a quaified fitter. ( Exampe of the written information suppied to reseers and fitters. R18 Design and sizing of the heating system If the stove has a water jacket and the heating system has a suppementary soar coector, the heating system of water jacketed stove/soar coector must be correcty designed and sized. 13 R19 Other information The manufacturer sha inform reseers that: The stove shoud be instaed by a quaified fitter. That the user must have access to the instaation manua and operating and care instructions. ( Exampe of the written information suppied to reseers and fitters. 5 Quaity and reguatory requirements To ensure that rdic Ecoabeing requirements are fufied, the foowing procedures must be impemented. If the manufacturer s environmenta management system is certified to ISO or EMAS, where the foowing procedures (R24 R26) are appied, it is sufficient for the accredited certification body to certify that the requirements are impemented. Are the requirements met? R20 Laws and reguations (reguatory requirements) The icensee must ensure that oca appicabe aws and reguations in force are observed at faciities at which the rdic Ecoabeed stove is manufactured. For exampe, oca reguations and provisions regarding heath and safety, the working environment, environmenta egisation (incuding REACH) and pant-specific conditions and concessions, must be foowed in the country where the stove is manufactured. R21 Licence administrators The manufacturer and the icensee if it is the other one than manufacturer sha appoint an individua responsibe for ensuring the fufiment of Swan requirements, and a contact person for communications with rdic Ecoabeing. ( Organisationa structure showing the above areas of responsibiity. R22 Documentation The icensee must keep the foowing documents during the icence period. The icensee must be abe to present these documents during the appication process and foow-up inspections: Copy of the entire appication. Facts/basic data (incuding test reports, documents from suppiers and suchike). Resuts from inspections of the production of the ecoabeed product. Returns and compaints. 14 R23 Stove quaity The icensee must ensure that the quaity of manufacturing of the rdic Ecoabeed stove is maintained throughout the vaidity period of the icence. rdic Ecoabeing maintains the right to request documentation of the annua quaity inspection of manufacturing if the aboratory has performed such a test. Requirements regarding the quaity of materias are found under R2. ( Procedures for coating and, where necessary, deaing with caims and compaints regarding the quaity of the rdic Ecoabeed stove. Documentation regarding quaity contro during manufacture if requested by rdic Ecoabeing. 15 Design of the rdic Ecoabe Design of the rdic Ecoabe: Licence number (xxx xxx) Each icence has a unique, six-digit icence number that must be dispayed aong with the abe. More information on the design of the abe can be found in Reguations for the rdic Ecoabeing of products of 22 June 2011 or ater version. Foow-up inspections rdic Ecoabeing may decide to check whether the stove fufis ecoabe requirements during the icence period. This may invove a site visit, random samping or simiar test. The icence may be revoked if it is evident that the stove does not meet the requirements. How ong is a icence vaid? rdic Ecoabeing adopted version 3.0 of the criteria on 12th October These criteria are vaid through 31th October On 12 September 2012 the secretariat managers meeting decided to add the exception on cassification R43 of the chemica products in the requirement R3. The new criteria version is 3.1 and is vaid unti 31th October On 12 vember 2013 the secretariat managers meeting decided to proong the criteria with one year. The new criteria version is 3.2 and is vaid unti 31th October An ecoabe icence is vaid providing the criteria are fufied and unti the criteria expire. The vaidity period of the criteria may be extended or adjusted, in which case the icence is automaticay extended and the icensee informed. 17 Appendix 1 Testing 1.1 Testing The stove must be tested to determine the fue gas emissions regarding carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons expressed as organic gaseous carbon (OGC), partices and efficiency. Testing is based on the European standards. But testing sha aso be performed at the heat outputs specified by the rwegian standard (NS). Mechanicay fed stoves must aso be tested for noise. The test aboratory sha produce a comprehensive test report that contains information on the foowing. 1. Seected test method. 2. Resuts from a tests. 3. A cear definition of the stoves. 4. Confirmation that the test has been performed in accordance with the method specified, except where stated otherwise. 5. Specification of the test fue. 6. That the aboratory fufis the specified requirements and can demonstrate that testing is performed in an impartia, competent manner. Sampe products sha be chosen at random from the factory s warehouse or from the open market. rdic Ecoabeing maintains the right to request additiona documents regarding the fufiment of requirements and test reports. 1.2 Test aboratory Fue gas tests sha be performed by an accredited aboratory that fufis the genera requirements of SS EN ISO/IEC An aternative aboratory may perform testing if the aboratory has appied for accreditation according to an appicabe test method but has not yet been granted approva or because it does not exist accreditation for technica specification or a proposa of a standard. The aboratory must be abe to show that it is independent and quaified. 25 Meta coating of parts (R6) The foowing requirements are met: Lead, mercury, cadmium, chrome and nicke additives must not be added during the meta coating of parts. Meta coating of parts Parts may be coated with chrome, nicke or compounds of these if this is justified due to high chemica or mechanica wear or another specific technica requirement. If components are chrome or nicke coated, pease document the background to this. Chrome pating must be based on trivaent chrome. If performed, chrome and nicke pating must be performed using purification, ion exchange, membrane technique or simiar process to maximise the reuse of the chemica products. The emissions from coating must be recyced and destroyed. The system must be cosed and without a drain.
