INSIDE STORY HEADLINE CHAPTER DIRECTORS I sure feel blest be to be apart of this great Chapter and I owe a BIG thanks to Eddie Baez whom I met at Holland Burger approx 5ys. ago. Eddie parked his Goldwing there and I parked My wing next to his. I found him inside and we had breakfast together, we were friends right off the get go. He then invited me to the gathering at Maxwell`s that following Sunday. I met a lot of good people at Maxwell`s sharing a lot of wellcoming comments, how could I say no when I was invited to becoming a member of GWRRA CA1-V! This year is flying off the calendar, here we are mid year [ July ] and so many good things going on. Jan and I are celebrating our 60th wedding anniversery today, we were married July 6th, 1957, WOW how time flys. i can not put into words. July 3rd an 4th we celebrated on the Queen Mary and saw the beautiful fire works at the stern of the ship; WOW is right! They say age is just a number, yes, but we enjoy the great life God has blest us both with, WE can hardly wait to live it! So many great anniveersary wish`s have been sent our way Jan an I both want to say a big thank you. I thought my smart phone was a box of fire crackers going off when the texting took place from Mike an Maggies 4th. party, while we were on the Queen, thx. again guys and ladies! We want to ask everyone to uphold Patrick an Sharon Riley in our PRAYERS, as Patrick has a full plate, to say the lest, and Sharon has a lot of medical treatments ahead of her, an they have to drive to Ontario, Ca. Kaiser every weekday, we don`t know how long for sure. Pray for her Doctors and care givers please. They both are loved as true friend`s and as our CA1- V Chapter Directors. May God bless you both real good is our combined prayers Sharon and Patrick. Assistant Director CA1-V Jim Albin Volume 34, Issue 7 2 2

INSIDE STORY HEADLINE Chapter Educators I had a request to show some common motorcycle hand signals for the folks that ride with us without the benefit of a CB radio. I found this online, and some of them we wouldn t use. The turn signal ones are a bit superfluous since we have working turn signal lights. The main ones I see us using are double file, singles file, speed up and slow down, and hazard in road. Of course, if anyone without a CB would like to install one on their bike, let me know and I will be happy to help with it. John and Lynda Baker, CA1V chapter educators. Volume 34, Issue 7 3 3

MEC CORNER NEWS AND MUSE JULY, 2017 Happy July, everyone! Summer is definitely here. Triple digits call for a cooling trend. That is to say, there are a number of ways to rise above the soaring temps when you're out and about enjoying summer activities. Remember to keep hydrated, especially when riding. Do chores and or exercise in the cool, cool, cool of the morning or evening. Take time to relax with friends and family. June seemed to fly by. On June 6 th, Taco Tuesday, we met for dinner at Raul's on Palmdale Rd. They kept us in the chips. Ole! On June 11 th Chapter D's Rally was held in Paramount at the Elks Club. Chapter V members who attended said games, prizes, musical entertainment and good food made for another successful and fun-filled rally. Yeh, Dogs! Dinner on June 12 th at the Grizzly Cafe on Hwy. 2 in Wrightwood was a highlight event. The mountain cabin motif contributes to the casual and relaxed atmosphere. We all enjoyed the evening and, hopefully we can return soon with members of Chapter CA-1A in tow. On Saturday, June 17 th members met at 7:30am at Lowes in Victorville to venture to the Black Bear Restaurant off I-15 (Lenwood Exit). It was Steve Hoffman's first time there and he can't wait to go back. Love those lumberjack breakfasts! Our gathering was held on Sunday, June 18 th at Maxwells. It was great to see Bob and Kay Finch. We missed you both. Thanks to all of you who contributed to our raffle. Please keep those donations coming. We acknowledged several birthdays including, Tom Harrer, John Baker, Lynda Baker and Patrick Riley. Happy Anniversary to Steve and Cynthia McNabb. Hope everyone had a nice Father's Day. In keeping with CA-1V's food propensities, we met for dinner at the Olive Garden in VV on June 21 st. One good breadstick deserves another. John and Lynda Baker attended CA-1L's Rally in San Luis Obispo on June 24 th. They enjoyed their visit and the good weather, as well. Our Leadership meeting was hosted by Patrick and Sharon Riley on June 26 th, Patrick's birthday. We celebrated Patrick's??? birthday with pizza and cake and ice cream. Thank you both for your hospitality. Our CA-1V ladies meet every Thursday at noon for lunch. We enjoy trying different cuisines and go all over the Valley. Please join us. Check your each week for a blast from Sharon Riley for date/location. July, as always, is starting out with a bang.. the Fourth of July, that is. CA-1V wishes you a safe and sane holiday. On Saturday, July 1 st, some CA-1V members plan to go to the Irwindale Speedway. Those who have gone in the past say the fireworks are phenomenal...not to be missed. On Saturday, July 8 th, we will be motoring to the Black Bear for a repeat performance for breakfast. We'll be leaving at 7:30a from Lowes in VV. Good Gravy! Volume 34, Issue 7 4 July 16 th will be our gathering at Maxwells. We look forward to seeing you there. (Continued next page)

On Wednesday, July 19 th, we're heading to the Victor Valley Bowl at 7:00. Hopefully, this event is right up your alley. We always have fun, so come on along. We'll meet at Shakey's at 6:00 for dinner. Our Leadership meeting is Monday, July 24 th at John and Lynda Baker's home. We're always looking for new ideas to motivate and spur on the Chapter so please bring yours and share them. July 31 st We'll close out the month with a taco (or two or three) at Taco Chon's on 395 and Cactus. For dessert we'll head down to Baskin-Robbins at 395/Palmdale for their 31 st of the month specials. I never met a cone I didn't like. Wishing you a safe and fun-filled July. Your MEC Lisa Glass Volume 34, Issue 7 5

Chapter Member Article >> Most of you probably know that Maggie and I just got back from visiting my family in Maine last week. What many of you don t know is that Maggie and I spent a day on each end in Salt Lake City, We arrived in town about 5 pm on the way out but it gave us time to have dinner with her son Martin. well on the way back we got into Salt lake about 11 in the morning and Maggie has heard a lot of hype about Park city so we took a ride in the rental car and spent a while driving around the former Olympic City, It s very cute looking rustic and expensive. >> After that we took a ride over to Midway site of the upcoming region rally. The town is much smaller than Park City, and it s along the flattening slopes of the back side of the Wasatch Mountains the town is definitely a growing city with many modern homes but many of the ranches that started the town are still thriving. We started looking for places to eat and to be honest the selection was good. we stopped at one Pizza place that looked like it might have a varied menu, it was packed, and things smelled great but we d had pizza the night before and wanted something different. In our short drive around town we only found another pizza place and a couple Mexican places and that was about it so we decided to check out the Zermatt complex. It s very Swiss Alps styles and had a couple restaurants we didn t go in but it was nicely upscaled and looked like a nice place. >> So still hungry and wanting to quell the grumbling within us we decided to visit Heber City. I had been there in 2000 when I was working for Raytheon in Salt Lake City and taken the train ride so I knew it would have food. We drove through most of the town and figured our options. Then settled on Dairy Keen it was just packed, food was great, especially the shake that I had that was so thick you could only eat it with a spoon. the menu was mostly burgers and sandwiches. There is a Lionel size train that is suspended from the ceiling that is on a constant loop. >> Overall I think the area is a good pick for our rally, I think we ll likely end up riding to Heber City for many meals but its only a 10 minute drive. If I remember to do so I will write an article for next month that tells about a particularly good day ride, it should only take about 3 hours so now you know a little bit more about the Region Rally next May. I hope this entices you to go. Mike Rand > Volume 34, Issue 7 6

District Directors Page Summer is definitely upon us along with intense HEAT. As you take advantage of the many opportunities to ride and have fun with our fellow chapters, please remember to hydrate and dress for the heat. Once home from the Region F rally in Tucson, we enjoyed having several rallies in June to attend. This gave us an occasional day off from demo and construction. We are replacing the flooring in the majority of our house, so we removed 600 sq. ft. of ceramic tile and have been living with only a refrigerator, microwave, and toaster oven and dust everywhere. CA-1D s Flag Day Rally, June 11th, gave us our first opportunity for fun with wingers. As we sported our flag shirts, we were served breakfast and lunch and were entertained with live music from a great band. Our next adventure was a great trip to Sonora for CA-2N s Country Fair Rally. We enjoyed many games and great food, but most of all, time visiting with our northern wingers. Lunch was BBQ with CA-2N s buffet of sides from their notoriously great cooks. This year they had vote for your favorite dessert as part of their famous dessert bar. So of course, it s dessert first sample several of the many choices before voting. One thing is for sure, you never leave a rally hungry. Our next adventure is this coming weekend. CA-1L s Pirate Run in Santa Maria. We always have great fun with those pirates, and I believe it may even be cooler in Santa Maria. I am encouraged by the support California is showing for their fellow chapters, and we enjoy every chance we get to spend time with our friends and family. The District Rally in Mammoth, September 22-24, is fast approaching. Reservation cut off at the Mammoth Lodge is August 17 th, so don t miss out. We are looking forward to seeing you there and enjoying some great riding. By our next article, our construction should be complete. Now it s just putting everything back in its place if we can find things. Remember RIDE SAFE & KEEP COOL.
