Friends for Fun Safety and Knowledge The Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) is the world's largest single-marquee social organization for owners and riders of Honda Gold Wing/Valkyrie motorcycles -- and some would say, the world's largest family. Dedicated to our motto, Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge, GWRRA members enjoy the freedom of belonging to a not-for-profit, non-religious and nonpolitical organization. Founded in 1977, GWRRA has grown to more than 80,000 U.S., Canadian and international members in 53 foreign countries in just 32 years. Over 800 active Chapters are managed by 4,000 volunteer leaders working with members to foster safe, enjoyable riding while also working to improve the public image of motorcycling.

3 Ken & Jan Pedder Chapter Directors Jan and I are honored to be your new Chapter Directors and hope to serve to your satisfaction. Our goal is to keep the members happy and engaged with the chapter and its activities and hope that you will let us know if you have suggestions regarding rides and activities. The Chapter Team are but a few of the members of the chapter and if nobody else speaks up we might miss something fun. Are there changes you folks would like to see made? What can we do to keep things interesting? If you have any ideas, please bring them to our attention or mention it to any of the Chapter Team members so they can bring it up. June started with some fun as our after gathering ride was supposed to take us to the Padaro Beach Grill in Carpinteria. You may remember that it was hot that day, so it wasn t any surprise that the beach was packed. The intended restaurant was also packed so we ended up at an Italian restaurant nearby that was very good. The food was great, and the price was very reasonable. It was nice to go to the coast and escape the heat. Several the chapter members took a ride to the Nethercutt Museum on the 16 th. It was a fun and educational trip. July includes Chapter CA1-S Harbor Run to be held on the 21 st. This is a wonderful event held in the Channel Islands Yacht Club in Oxnard. We have always had a blast with these folks the horse races are a ton of fun and there are usually some nice prizes for those who wish to try their luck. It is also rather nice to have a reason to ride to the coast in July and beat the 100-degree heat for a day. Also, on July 21 st is CA-C s event in Elk Grove just south of Sacramento. We have attended this event a couple of times and had a lot of fun. The setting for this event is nice and they have plenty of games to keep you entertained and good prizes if you feel lucky. 5 Russ Thome Ride Coordinator Hi All! The last gathering ride took us to Carpenteria where the plan was to eat at Padaro Beach Grill, a destination that we had been to before and was pretty good. We started out with 2 bikes, 1 being our new friend Danny on his '18 wing and 4 trikes, one car. We lost Jerry along the way to a Corvette with a for sale sign!! I should know by now to do a bit more research on some of destinations before setting the date! Have you ever heard of the June Gloom Fair!!! The strip was packed with cars parked all the way down to the Padaro off ramp. We finally all got a spot to park and Kathy and Lucy made a bee line for the restaurant to check the wait. While they were able to get seats, the line was crazy due to people ordering and going down to the beach. We opted out for Borrello's Pizza and Pastaria. It was pretty much empty which made me wonder how the food would be, but overall, it seemed everyone enjoyed their meal and I don't think we had any issues. I had the Italian Sub and Lucy a burger to which we both brought half of it home. In parting, the bikes and trikes left ahead of us as Judy, Kathy and Lucy decided they needed to check out some of the shops while I guarded the car!!! June 16 - Sorry we missed you!! Sadly our ride to the Nethercutt Museum only consisted of 8 of us. I thought it was only going to be 6 but was glad to have Judy and Andrew make it as well. It was overcast and at times I would even say light rain when we met up at Sizzler. After a leisurely lunch and a short ride to Sylmar, we arrived at the museum. Tucked away in an unlikely, mix of residential and light business area in the north San Fernando Valley lies the Nethercutt. I had never been there and was not sure what to expect but could have spent a few hours just in the first part of the museum, full of classics and misc parts. But the best was yet to come in the tour across the street. Two stories of beautifully restored, fully functional cars flowing with history! You only have a limited amount of time on each floor of the tour and for myself there was so much to see, I really wasn't sure where to start so I missed out on a lot. The third floor had music boxes of all kinds, watches and clocks and other misc antique pieces and art. Then came the 4th floor! Giant music boxes, (forget what they are called) nickelodeons, pianos, organs and a pipe organ of which we were treated to a mini concert from it and a couple of the huge music boxes. The place is loaded with antique furniture that they encourage you to sit in. The tours can be crowded so if you plan to go, try during the week. Really very impressive and best of all it's FREE!!!! There are martial arts, and also healing arts that originated in China many years ago. It s been said that certain forms of Tai Chi were practiced as far as 1500 years ago. The first know organized school was the Chen school, which is still taught today by the same family. Many other forms followed, Yang, Sun, Woo and a few others. The form of Tai Chi that I teach and follow, was created by Dr. Paul Lam, an Australian family doctor, with followers and schools around the world. My first contact with Tai Chi was back in 2011, Suzann my lady friend which most of you know from social activities, was teaching Ai Chi a form of Tai Chi in the water at the YMCA. I don t mean to bore you with my clinical history, it s worth mentioning for the results that I achieved. I suffer from degenerative arthritis, both of my hips have been replaced, fibromyalgia and both my rotator cuffs are torn. I had problems walking straight and as a result I stumbled quite a bit. When she started teaching Chi Kung (a form of Tai Chi) I was her first student. I learned how to walk straight and how to balance my body. My improvement was such, that with her encouragement, I became an instructor myself. The first Qi (pronounced Chi) Kung clinic opened in China in 1955, today the practice is taught around the world as a healing art. I have many stories to tell from students that their life changed drastically as a result of those teachings. Today I m certified to teach Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, Tai Chi for Diabetes and Tai Chi for Energy. 9 WOCA ROCKA WOW, some amazing and beautiful rocks were painted at our last WOCA meeting. A dot here and a dot there. Here a dot there a dot and Walla. First time I have ever witnessed silence from our group as they were so focused and on DOT! We sure have a talented group. Now as you all go about your busy days you will begin to look at rocks in a whole different way,. Hummm, what can I do with this smooth rock? Butterfly, ladybug, heart, stick people, meaningful words to encourage a friend. Hope you had as much fun as I did. Until our next rock painting adventure.

13 Recipe of the Month PATRIOTIC ICE CREAM SANDWICHES Chocolate cookies with Red White & Blue M&M s and creamy vanilla ice cream combine into a delicious 4th of July dessert that we call Patriotic Ice Cream Sandwiches. INGREDIENTS: Red White and Blue Chocolate Cookies Vanilla Ice Cream 4th of July Sprinkles DIRECTIONS: 1. Make a batch of our yummy Red White and Blue Chocolate Cookies. 2. Let the cookies cool completely. 3. Add a generous spoonful of vanilla ice cream to the bottom of one of the cookies. 4. Add the second cookie to make an ice cream sandwich. 5. Pressed Red White and Blue sprinkles onto the ice cream for some patriotic color and flash. Place the Red White and Blue Ice Cream Sandwiches into the freezer to firm up for a couple of hours before serving
