1 REGIONNAIRE A Monthly Newsletter for the So. California Region Vintage Chevrolet Club of America April 2011 Next Meeting Date: April 16, 2011 Hello VCCA & Chevy Lovers! I Where does the time go? It s the end of the 3 rd. month and our region has had a lot first s this year. For example we had our First Breakfast Meeting, our first Long Beach Swap Meet recruiting event, our first new woman member in a long time, our first demo event and our first region tour. We had other first as well like every region represented at our breakfast and the Long Beach Swap Meet event. And if that s not enough, we have all 3 of our VCCA region Cars Shows planned this year including our first Car Show at Felix Chevrolet. Special Thanks Jim Karris for donating of $40.00 for a space at our next LB Swap Meet recruiting event, August 7., and for volunteering to manage a new Car Show in 2012 {hint-hint}. Be sure and check out our web site because there WILL BE other VCCA recruiting events. As you can see, we are on a roll. 2 Happening s (Lt.) The picture shows the attendee s at the our first morning Breakfast Meeting on March 26 th. Many of the attendee s represented other Region s and everyone enjoyed the location. Coco s Restaurant in Lakewood (South St. & Lakewood Blvd.) will be the location of the April meeting on Saturday, April 16 th. Tidbit s: By Jim Lundal Kate Jackson recently joined the So Cal Region after inheriting her car from her father. The car is very original (receiving new paint along the way) and a very straight car. Kate s initial problem was that the standard shift car would not shift into 2 nd gear or 3 rd gear. I volunteered to use my car lift to see if we could figure out the problem and use the lift if transmission work was required. After adjusting the shifting linkage everything seemed fine so after contacting Kate I was going to deliver the car to her Long Beach residence. Leaving my house I decided (not knowing her gas gauge) to put some gas in the car. Couldn t get the gas cap off and deciding that it was a locking cap also couldn t get the key to open it. I did make it to her house and further examination showed the cap was original GM and the key did work after all. Also looking at the key you see the early Chevy character (I call a clown) embossed on the key. I believe the ignition key also has the same figure. This character is also found on literature for my 1932 Chev. I am sure there is more history here but I don t have the space to elaborate. Figure Kate has a great car, desirable model (2-dr. Hardtop) and now we know a great gas cap. GM Spring Loaded Lid

3 VCCA Business Meeting Minutes for March Meeting was called to order at 9:10 By Director Mike Welch at Coco s on Lakewood Blvd. Everyone was welcomed to the first breakfast meeting and all attending has agendas. Guests and new members: We had none. Membership: No one yet. Minutes from the last meeting Feb was accepted by motion Roy Queen and 2nd. Mike Welch. Treasurer report, Connie Northrop could not make the meeting, Mike Welch read the report. Club Hat Sales: 2 were sold at $13.00 Ea, We now have a $5,390.00/ $ Club Dues are due: Announcements & Old Business: Long Beach Swap Vet-Stadium got 1 New Member and 4 probable members, Successful Day, Good exposure, Handed out 15 Apps,& 25 G&D S. VCCA Business Cards, need information. New Business: We have new members, Bob Pelle,&. Also we need a Secretary, would Kate take this? And a Membership Chairman: Roy Queen accepted with help. Our next meeting will be held Coco s on the 3rd.Sat. April @ 9:00 We need the Web site up-dated and some new pictures. George Aust reported Foothills Car Show at Felix Chevrolet May-29th. In LA, CA is sold out with 188 cars but that does not mean we cannot show up to support them. Their Director Alonso Guerrero has really been pushing this car show activity, Good Job. Jim Karras, made a motion to donate $50.00 to National and was carried. So. Cal, Region along with other Regions are supporting a Family Day at the Park! The Park is Pepper Tree Park in Tustin this will be June-26th. This is on a Sunday. Foothill has a new meeting place Hallett Boats 4800 Rivergrade Road in Irwindale. Long Beach Stadium (Vet.) Swap meet, Bob Jeppesen made a motion to reserve 4 spaces on Aug-7th. And Rick Willis 2nd. Motion Carried. Lloyd Ikerd brought up a House Trailer (empty) that he has and we can use if we want to just pick it up. Lloyd Ikerd has a 1954 Sedan Delivery For Sale and it does run for $3500,00. Mike Welch is going to look at a 1936 Chevrolet Knee Action Coupe. Car Shows Bellflower Lions Club Car Show Saturday September-10 Plans to be a great show in Downtown Bellflower, for information or reservations call Larry at Long Beach Hot August Nights May-6-8 VCCA All Cal: May VCCA Picnic: June-18th. USMC Wounded Warrior car Show August-14th. Belmont Shore Car Show is Sunday September-11th. VCCA San Fernando Valley Car Show September-11th. VCCA Orange County Car Show October-9th. VCCA So.Cal. Holiday Dinner: TBD. Thank you everyone for attending our first Saturday Meeting we appreciate your attendance and support, Motion made by Dick Dennis and second by Rick Willis to Adjourn the meeting at 10:50 AM. Area 1 Director s Report Jim Karras, #43031 April 2011 As I reported in my last report, Motion which would have repealed VCCA Policy and effectively eliminate the current 15-point deduction for judged cars with engines of the wrong year of manufacture failed during the recent BOD vote causing 15-point deduction will remain for now. I would like to thank Michael Welch, the Southern California Region Director for organizing the first Area 1 membership recruiting drive at the Long Beach Swap Meet on March 13 th. Four of the Area 1 Regions participated. The interest received by the attendees at our booth was very positive. More of these events are in the works. Thanks again to Mike and all of the VCCA members that attended for an outstanding job!! The All Cal will soon be here. Registration forms must be received by the Central Valley Region by April 30 th. Also, the 50 th Anniversary Meet Committee has issued opportunity drawing tickets for sale. I have distributed them to each region so please consider purchasing some of these raffle tickets at a future region meeting.
