Friends for Fun Safety and Knowledge The Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) is the world's largest single-marquee social organization for owners and riders of Honda Gold Wing/Valkyrie motorcycles -- and some would say, the world's largest family. Dedicated to our motto, Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge, GWRRA members enjoy the freedom of belonging to a not-for-profit, non-religious and nonpolitical organization. Founded in 1977, GWRRA has grown to more than 80,000 U.S., Canadian and international members in 53 foreign countries in just 32 years. Over 800 active Chapters are managed by 4,000 volunteer leaders working with members to foster safe, enjoyable riding while also working to improve the public image of motorcycling.

Bob & Linda Harmon Chapter Directors Travels of Bob and Linda November has been a month of unusual activities for this couple. Weekly phone visit with oldest daughter, Shawna, who is pregnant and the most recent update. Baby is coming early. He is not growing like they want and that would be easier to control on the outside. Mom and dad to the rescue. Brodie is 8 and needs transport back and forth as well as all the other needs of an 8-year-old boy. So here we are. Mom delivered Baby boy on Tuesday, Nov. 14, about 1pm in the afternoon. 17 inches and 4 pounds 12 ounces. Small but keepable. This is number 15 of our grandchildren. I would say last but probably not. Our little charmer is officially named Dash Robert Slade Duet. Thanksgiving here was a bit unusual. The house was full of people, some we had met, some we did not know, and some were family. Linda s ex, Eric, was there with his wife, Ruth. We know them and have a comfortable relationship with them. Linda and Eric were in the kitchen a lot of the time, and Ruth and Bob enjoyed the company. One of the friends brought her significant other which was a Great Dane that stood over4 feet tall. He was truly a gentle giant. Another friend brought her boyfriend and her mother. They were all Cowboy fans, so we did watch the game. All in all, it was a good day. (better if Dash had been home!) It is now after Thanksgiving and our daughter stays at the hospital most of the time. Dash is growing but not fast enough for me. I would like for him to be home and not in a hospital. The other grandparents (my ex) are around now so we handed off Brodie yesterday and went for a drive. We went to the area where we want to settle in Texas. You will all be glad to know that the house we was looking at went off the market 2 days before we were able to call. There were 2 offers so it is gone. At the present time, there are no other homes there for sale that peaked our interest. We had a great time driving around the countryside and experiencing the different small towns that make up the landscape of Texas. The best way to experience Texas is get off the freeway and take the back roads. You will find some beautiful old building and interesting places. I finally got to taste a Kolache yesterday. If smaller, you could call it a Danish, but it is taller and sweeter. My girls have been teasing me about them for a year, so I tried one at a cute bakery we found in Brenham, TX. We are starting to talk about our return trip so hopefully when you read this, you can see our smiling faces. Life is full of experiences and everyone should live them to the fullest. We have attached some pictures of our recent adventures.

Robert Bob & Linda Harmon Chapter Directors Ride Safe it s more Fun!

Ken & Jan Pedder Assistant Chapter Director I find it hard to believe it is Thanksgiving already. Why does the time seem to pass so much more quickly than it did years ago? And why is it 80 degrees out at the end of November? I worked up a sweat doing some chores around the house.you might have thought it was September. Perhaps there is something to this global warming after all. Jan and I missed the November gathering so we could attend CA1C s annual event. It was a very enjoyable get together and was well attended. We are now preparing for Christmas and all the activities that go along with that. This would include our annual CA1-A Christmas Party which Jan and I will be hosting. We hope to see all of you there. Don t forget to contribute to the Pot of Gold! You could be the winner. Just remember, you can increase your chances of winning by buying more tickets. Happy Holidays! See you out on the road...ride often but ride safe! Ken & Jan Pedder Assistant Chapter Director

If anyone has an idea for a motorist awareness event please contact one of our officers.

Sandy Carbo Membership Enhancement Coordinator November has been another busy month for most of us. We decided at our gathering that we would collect socks, coats and sweaters and turn them in at our December gathering to be given to Grace Resource Center to be given to those that are less fortunate than we are. We are having our Christmas gift exchange and dinner on the 9 th of December in the home of Jan and Ken Pedder. It will start late afternoon around 5:00, serving dinner at 6:00pm. We hope everyone has signed up to bring food and to help Jan and Ken set up and clean up. If you have any questions, please call Jan and Ken. December is a busy month for all of us. Please help pitch in to help others, if you are going to the post office and you have a neighbor or friend having a hard time getting around, call them and see if you can do something kind for them. We need to remember, someday, sometime we might need help and what a better season to do something kind. I do hope those of you that went on the ride last month and then had lunch at Jacks place enjoyed the day. I am continually looking for new places to keep us going to places we have not been to eat that include a nice ride. We are entering into cold weather, we might consider for fun going to a movie, or picking a specific place to visit. Do you like museums? What kind? Give me your ideas that will make going places more interesting. My article is short this month with so much to do. Shopping is fun but it does take lots of energy. I guess the next time I write it will be in a New Year, Wow time does fly. Have a Happy Holiday season however you celebrate. Remember, ride safe and dress with the proper attire. See you in the New Year! Sandy Carbo Membership Enhancement Coordinator

Nancy & Bob Clark CA District Directors As we enter December we look back and have a lot to be thankful for: friends-old and new, adventures and fun riding our wings, and time with family. There is a small break to regain our appetites after a thanksgiving feast to enjoy festivities for the holiday season. Bob and I look forward to spending some time with some of our Goldwing friends and family during December. It is time to start planning for the next year, Officer s Conference is coming January 27th, so plan on being there to catch up on what s new in GWRRA. There is a promising future as a focus on riding and having fun comes in to play, and the new 2018 Goldwing may draw in a younger riding population. Let s be sure to make them feel welcome and show them how much fun we can have while riding safely. We will be installing new officers and honoring those who have served our membership, as well as having fun with our GWRRA family. All are welcome so please plan on attending. For information contact your CD and register for your hotel room before Dec. 27 th. We have a whole new year ahead of us with rallies and rides to look forward to. Work with your chapter team to come up with some great ideas for rides and activities be creative. You are the most important part of GWRRA and your chapter and your fun can only be as good as you make it. Share, participate, and have FUN. As we close out the year, Bob and I would like to thank all of you for all you do for your GWRRA friends and family. We love serving all of you and enjoy our time spent with our winger family. It is our hope that your holidays are filled with fun and laughter, and the joy of sharing time with friends and family. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, and Happy New Year to all. See you next year. Hugs, Bear Hugs from your CA District Directors Nancy & Bob Clark California District Directors [gwrra.mamabear@gmail.com]

Ken & Jan Pedder CA1A Couple of the Year 2017 Despite the unusually warm weather we have had recently, the opportunities for riding will soon be reduced. This is a good time to catch up with those maintenance activities you may have been putting off. How long has it been since you took a good look at those brake pads? Does the brake and/or clutch fluid need to be changed? And what about those little bothersome things like the CB trigger, cruise control and reverse buttons not working the way they should? This is a good time to open those control housings and give them a cleaning. I know I have a few of these things that should be addressed but haven t had the time to get to them. I am hoping to devote some time to this stuff during the time off between Christmas and New Year s. Hopefully, Jan and I can get some riding in as well. Jan and I wish you all Happy Holidays and a wonderful New Year. See Y'all soon!! Ken & Jan Pedder CA1A Couple of the Year

Snowball Christmas Cookies Ingredients 1 cup (2 sticks/226 grams) unsalted butter, softened slightly 5 tablespoons (63 grams) granulated sugar 2 teaspoons (10 ml) pure vanilla extract ¼ teaspoon (1.25 grams) kosher salt 2 cups (240 grams) organic all-purpose flour, such as King Arthur Flour 2 cups (about 240 grams) finely chopped walnuts 1½ cups (about 188 grams) confectioners sugar, for dusting cookies twice Directions 1. Using an electric stand mixer fitted with paddle attachment, or handheld electric mixer, cream together butter and sugar. Beat in the vanilla and salt. Gradually add flour or gluten free flour blend; beating after each addition. Stir in the nuts; mix until fully incorporated. Divide dough in half and refrigerate in plastic wrap for approximately 45 minutes. 2. Meanwhile, arrange oven rack in middle of oven and preheat to 350ºF. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper; set aside. Place confectioners sugar in a small bowl; set aside. Measure dough using a small, 1-inch spring-loaded scoop making sure each scoopful is level. Roll dough between palms of hands to achieve a small rounded ball. 3. Place dough balls 1½ inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Bake in preheated oven until the cookies are just beginning to brown, about 12 to 14 minutes. Do not overbake. The underside of the cookies should be only lightly browned. And, the cookies should not crack a sure sign of overbaked teacake cookies. 4. Cool cookies on baking sheets on wire racks for approximately 2 minutes. Remove cookies from baking sheets using a metal cookie spatula. While cookies are still warm, gently roll them in the confectioners sugar. Place the sugar-coated cookies on wire racks to cool completely. Roll cookies once again in the confectioners sugar..

Mike Ridgway Hello Gold Wing riders. My name is Mike from Chapter Q, and I am here to help if I can. During our trip to Wing Ding in Montana two of our Wings broke down. It cost one rider approx. $ the other about $ to get home. This really bothers me to no end! I went out and purchase a Motorcycle / Trike tow unit for my pickup truck. Now I am retired, so I have all the time in the world! I would like to offer to any Winger that breaks down and after using all of their AAA towing benefit s and any other tow services and they still are not home, CALL me and I will go get them FREE, just pay for my gasoline and buy me a hamburger. THANX Mike.
