Trent & Denise Reid CA1M Chapter Director Ramblings We re coming into the Spring, which is the best time of the year for riding a motorcycle. The weather is mild; not too hot, not too cold. The days are longer so we can plan longer rides. We ve had to cancel the last several rides and events because of no participation. I m trying to figure out how to fix this, and I have a few ideas. Let me ask this: Do we need to make changes to the ride calendar? Are there too many rides? Are the destinations not of interest? The Chapter leadership team worked very hard to put together a ride calendar that we thought would get people out of the house and onto their bikes. I realize that we all have lives outside of GWRRA and sometimes there are conflicts. But if you re not participating because of a problem with the ride calendar, I need your feedback. Here is the job description for members: Provide feedback to Chapter Officers: What are we doing well? What could we do differently? Be honest and candid. Attend Chapter functions whenever possible. Promote a supportive, family atmosphere Have FUN!!! When I say I want your feedback, I really mean it. This is YOUR Chapter, and it s my job as Chapter Director to help make it a good experience for you. I need YOUR help to make YOUR Chapter the best it can be. If you want to host an event; an ice cream social, BBQ, etc., or have a ride idea, let me know. Let s get together, ride, and have some FUN! Continued on page 4 3

Continued from page 3 The article above was published from one of our northern chapters in their newsletter and they have allowed me to share with you our members. (slightly edited) This is your chapter let your staff know how we are doing so that we can make any changes that may be needed. We are always looking for input. April has been a great month for riding and those that have been out riding will have many stories to tell. CA1A and CA1Q are now complete and were tons of FUN. Our Weds night rides and new location 2 meeting spot are working out to be FUN as well. Upcoming is the REGION F CONVENTION in TUCSON at the JW MARRIOT TUCSON STARR PASS RESORT and SPA. Get those registrations in and come enjoy all the activities and riding opportunities that have been planned for your enjoyment. Check our website and calendar for schedules and all the activities and poker rides coming up. Your staff has been working hard to keep the information current and up to date so you may come play with your FRIENDS and FAMILY. Trent and Denise Reid CD CA1M All The Gear All The Time 4

TUCSON HERE WE COME!! We hope that you all join us at the Region F convention this year. We ve always had a lot of fun at the Region F convention and I am sure this year will not be any different. Going to a Region F Convention is another opportunity for you to see all your friends you ve met along the way throughout our Region. What better way to stay in touch with all those marvelous people you ve met. After all that is what GWRRA is all about, Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge, our motto that we live by. Always focusing on the Friends because frankly that is why we all hang out together, we re friends, and many say we re family. Below is a recap on what you are actually getting for your $ per night hotel stay. A brief synopsis of what the $30.00 credit is all about and how it is used. We ve always attached a schedule of events for the Region F convention so you can see what is happening each day. If you want education this is where you should be. The CA convention unfortunately will not be having a UTDP class. So if you want to become a seminar presenter this is where to do it. Also Region F is having the Amazing Team Challenge, so if you want to test your skills at riding at low speeds, come out and show us what you can do. Because of limited open areas at the CA convention we will not be having the Amazing Team Challenge. Shiny bikes, chrome and just pure beauty, come and enter your bike in the Bike Show at the Region F convention, we know how you all like those bragging privileges of winning that special trophy. There is something to do for everyone at the Region F convention, so we hope to see many of you there. Speaking about conventions and rallies, don t forget those California Rallies in May. Starting out with CA-2S s junk yard sale May 1 & 2nd, moving on the CA-1K Mother s Day ride on May 2 nd! Don t forget to mark your calendars for CA-2K s A day with the Krows, sponsored by Jelly Belly, on May 16 th and of course ending out the month with CA-2Q s garage sale on May 30 th. Always something to do in California! Continued on page 6 5

Continued from page 5 A big thank you to Robin Black for winning the tires, but not taking the prize and pulling a 2 nd ticket... that second ticket pulled was ours, so a BIG thank you for allowing all of us a second opportunity to win. And boy do we need them!! Thanks Robin for your generosity. And speaking of fun, yes Princess entered the pie eating contest, along with 3 other female contenders we held our own and actually had fun. Although I was accused of only taking 2 bites, in my defense I did not suck it up like our male counterparts did I actually took bites and it was more than two! It was fun, and I m sure you will see pictures posted of Princess having fun!! Take care and please travel safe, Until next month, ride well, ride often, Vincent & Pamela Join your GWRRA friends in Tucson, Arizona - May 22-24, 2015, for your GWRRA Region "F"un Convention at the JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort and Spa For Resort Registration go to: They have had questions about the $119 room rates for the Rally, so here is the breakdown. While it is true the rooms are $119 a night, your room will be credited $30 a night to use on anything you can charge to your room. It is accumulative and will be removed from the things you have charged to your room at check out. So let's say you have a meal and charge it to the room. When you check out, you will pay for your room and the dinner will be offset by your $30 credit per night. If you stay four nights, that adds up to a $120 credit for your room. What it boils down to is that the room rates equate to $89 if you use the $30 a day credit toward room charges. Hopefully that makes sense, because they really hope most of you come spend the time with them. This, to some of us, will be a once in a lifetime chance to stay at a 5 star Resort and Spa at such a discounted price. GWRRA Region F un Convention

Tour Directors John & Tammy On the Road Again Last month our fearless leader, Trent, led us on a after meeting ride that was orchestrated beautifully around local mountains that I didn t know even existed, He took us to a park that had a waterfall that runs all year round. Trent also gave us general information about the local mountains that most of us did not know. Rumor was floating around the day of the ride, that Mr. Tegel was going to buy a new bike. So, after Trent s ride a few of us went down to Redlands Honda to check it out. Yahoo!!!! Its no more a rumor, Larry purchased his new red bike and led us on a Wednesday Night Dinner Ride to break it in. A fine job by Mr. Tegel. Now, we have others in the chapter contemplating on getting new bikes. Now, we need some new places to ride. I have four new restaurants that I am sure no one has been to. So, keep your eyes open for the upcoming Wednesday Night Dinner Rides. If you have a place you want to ride, please let me know. Lets put some new rides together. All ideas welcome. If you know someone who has a motorcycle and wants to ride with us, give him or her my name and phone number.! We have great weather coming up, so lets get out and ride!!!! Who s going to Reno? As always, the ride leaders are important and thanks to those of you that have stepped up to the plate to lead the rides, you are appreciated. A note: from your tour director. Each and every of you bring a special shine to this Chapter, your individuality and presence is what makes CA1M, so special!!!!! Let s Ride 7

Larry Tegel CA1M Chapter Educator It says it s Spring, but, John Somma and I were in 95 degree weather yesterday. The point is, it s warming up and it is definitely riding weather! So, break out the cool collars and cooling vests to make sure they are ready for the summer. Now is a good time to go over your bike to make sure you are ready for the road. Put the bike on the center stand and get down on the ground. Rotate the tires and look for cuts, screws, nails, bubble/blisters and the tread wear bars. If you don t know what the wear bars look like, ask me to show you. If it is time to change your tires, do it now. While you are down there looking at your tires, check out the disc brake shoes to see if they need servicing. Don t wait until you hear that dreaded squeal of metal on metal! (I know from experience) Now is also a good time to blow out your controls, switches and levers. Use your air compressor or go to a friends that has one and put the little rubber nozzle on it to get into the weep holes under the instrument clusters. If you don t know where they are, ask me to show you. I spray them out with air, spray in some Tri-flow lubricant (not WD-40), it does not attract dirt. After spraying it in, then blow out with air again. This usually helps to work very well. Take a walk around the bike with it running. This will allow you to make sure that all of your lights are working, including your license plate light. A couple a years ago we found that 8 out of 10 bikes had a burnt out license plate light. Continued on page 9 8

Continued from page 8 Now would also be a good time to check and replenish your first aid kit, if you carry one on the bike. Replace the gloves in it with new ones in a fresh zip-lock bag. Is your oil and filter need to be changed? When was the last time you changed your final drive gear oil????? It only takes 6 oz. and about 5 minutes to do the gear oil. If you don t know how to do it, call me. A prepared rider has a better chance at being a safe rider. So, don t forget, Keep it Safe out there! Larry Tegel CA1M Chapter Educator 9

SLICE OF WRY I must admit that although I have the courage, I may be missing the skills to tackle home-repair projects.for example, in my shed are the remains of a lawnmower I once tried to fix and pieces and parts of a few other now-unidentifiable items. So I shouldn't have been surprised at my sister Bonnie's comment when she came for a visit and found me attacking the vacuum cleaner with a screwdriver... a hammer lying close by."i can't get this thing to cooperate," I explained rather sheepishly, trying to hide the hammer. Bon suggested, "Why don't you drag it out to the shed and show it what's left of the lawnmower?
