1 A Publication of Central Oklahoma Classic Chevy Club August 2009 KIM I ll bet that title is a little confusing and you re wondering why I would be writing about KIM. Then, you might be asking this question. Does Rustyne know her or know about her? Well let me put your minds at ease. The name KIM is an acronym for the movie Killer Inside Me, that was filming here in Oklahoma. I thought you might enjoy reading about my experience with this upcoming movie. It stars Casey Affleck, Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba. Most of us had heard about this film and knew they were looking for cars. Some had even sent pictures of their special rides to an address hoping for a positive answer. Back in May, I had contacted a gentleman named Phil Helman offering to help find suitable classics for use in the movie KIM. On Thursday, the 11 th of June, I received a call from him asking about my car. After some discussion, he invited me to have the 56 in front of Cattlemen s Café at 2 pm and plan on being there about four hours. I arrived on time and after about 45 minutes things begin to happen. First, they gave all car owners a radio and then we had to cover our Oklahoma tag with a plastic 1957 Texas plate. Not to long after that, my radio was confiscated and I was told old Black Magic would not have a driving part but would remain parked and used as a background vehicle. They began filming some scenes and while talking to other owners, I caught a glimpse of movement out of my left eye. That turned out to be a production hand throwing movie dust on my car. When questioned as to why, he responded by saying that it had to much shine and this would alleviate that problem. Mmmm, guess he didn t know how many hours I ve spent developing that deep black glossy look!!! After about two and one half hours, they announced we were finished there and would be moving to another production location. Instructions were to drive south on Pennsylvania and then turn left on SW 22 nd and find the production crew. It s now five o clock and after a snack and something cold to drink they have us move the cars two blocks north and one or two west. We re in a residential neighborhood, probably built in the late 1940's or early 1950's. Mostly duplexes or triplexes all painted white 1

2 and plenty of people watching all the action. I guess we moved the cars about five times while they filmed different scenes and they released us (finally) a little after eight that evening. While sitting and waiting Casey Affleck drove past many times in a beige 53 or 54 Ford. Also, at the final location that day some of us struck up a conversation with a young lady. When asked if she was an extra, she said she was actually a double for one of the stars, Kate Hudson. Previously movie dust was mentioned in this story and after explaining to Rustyne all that happened that Friday, she looked on the positive side and used a better term. She feels if the 56 is seen in the movie, then star dust would be a little more appropriate. We can only hope that any of the club cars filmed during the making of KIM, don t end up on the cutting room floor. (It s my understanding about a year will pass before release of the movie). One final thought. Now, it s quite apparent to me, after watching all the takes and retakes, the reason why going to the movies costs so much. They might film one scene five times, maybe more and all the while people are just standing around or filming. It was a different kind of experience and one that I got paid to do, so I ll cash my check and wait for the Killer Inside Me. A note to editor from member Mike Rhoades. Annette, Please let our Classic Chevy Club members know about the Route 66 Classics In The Park car show at Hafer Park on Saturday September 19th. 4 Freedom Fest Car Show June 27, 2009 The annual Freedom Fest Car Show was held on a hot Saturday in Edmond on the South side of UCO on a parking lot. There were around 90 cars present and COCCC members represented our club with some of their cars. Mike Rhoades, Fred Hensley, Mark Houser, Matt Gengler (Mark s personal car exerciser) Larry & Annette Myers. This show was a participant judging show and our club members all took home a trophy. We suggested to the people that help run the show, that next year, it needs to be in Hafer Park, not on the asphalt. Some person got overheated, but cooled off quickly with the addition of ice to her neck and water in her belly. Mike & Betty Rhoades 1957 Bel Air at Edmond s Liberty Fest Car Show June 27, 2009 Tracy & Irene Bugg are providing food and ice cream for our Saturday, August 8th meeting to be held at the Bugg s home. Members are asked to bring a dessert. We are to meet at the Braum s in Tri-City to leave at 4 pm and travel as a group to the Bugg home. July s Dinner Cruise With True & Sherry Osborn July 25, 2009 COCCC members met the Osborns at Swadley s BBQ at 89th & S. Western to go on their monthly dinner cruise. It was really hot outside, but when the cruise got started, the members cooled off with either 4-60 AC or true AC in their cars. True led out the pack of 8 classic cars and we drove to Westheimer Air Park in Norman to have a meal at Ozzie s. Members that drove their classics were: True & Sherry, Rudy & Gloria, Rodney & Martha, Robert & Peggy, Annette & Larry, Tracy Bugg & his friend Cliff, Harold Parker and his friend Jim. David & Linda and Kay & Curtis drove their other cars and met us at Ozzie s. A wonderful time was had by all. The hosts for the next dinner cruise is Larry & Annette. On the cruise, Harold in his 55 and Jim in his Cameo, kept lagging behind. Larry called Harold and was told that Jim s Cameo wouldn t keep running. They were going to try to take it on home and meet us to eat. Well, it didn t make it home and they happened to break down by Jim & Sue Parker s home, a classic Chevy guy & gal. The Parker s were wonderful to let Jim with the Cameo work on the truck in their drive. Larry helped with diagnosing the problem with the Cameo, fuel pump going out. They crippled the truck on home. Larry didn t hear any more, so they must have made it home. 4
