President s Message On Wednesday, 26 th September there will be a District 9830, Group 6 Forum which will be held at the Lucas Hotel in Latrobe. It starts at 6pm for 6.30pm,

3 President s Message On Wednesday, 26 th September there will be a District 9830, Group 6 Forum which will be held at the Lucas Hotel in Latrobe. It starts at 6pm for 6.30pm, concluding at 8.30pm. This will be a substitute for our normal weekly meeting, it would be great to have a good turnout from Deloraine for Gayle s first Group Forum meeting. The Lucas will accommodate only a limited number of people, so I urge you to let Ann or myself know ASAP if you are coming. There will be no room for partners that night. There will be two speakers talking about mental health, however I can t tell you who they are yet because they are not confirmed. Socks, socks, socks! Only 9 pairs left and I will be very happy when I have sold them all. They are $10 each. The money goes to prostate cancer research and is a very worthy cause. Many of you will have heard about Paul Hickman of Chudleigh and a member of the Chudleigh Show Society (the centre of the universe). Paul is contributing hay and driving to northern NSW to deliver this hay to a deserving farmer. Paul is paying for fuel, accommodation and meals out of his own pocket. Rotarian Tony Wadley is also contributing hay which will be loaded onto Paul s truck. The Deloraine Rotary Club and the Chudleigh Show Society have each contributed $500 and Paul will deliver this money to the Rotary contact in Wauchope, Reg Pierce who is the RAWCS Project Manager there. Reg has organised with the NSW Government for a rebate on all diesel Paul will use in NSW and Paul is also contributing this money to the project as well. In addition, the Mole Creek Hotel recently raffled a 4.5litre bottle of Jamesons Whiskey and have donated the $1,000 which was raised. The farmer who will receive the hay and cash is out in western NSW, his wife is in hospital with terminal cancer and the husband is running the place on his own and doing it really, really tough. He is overwhelmed at the news that Tasmanians can be so generous and that help is on its way. Finally, Reg Pierce will induct Paul into the Rotary Club of Wauchope because it is hard to find people with such a big heart as Paul s. Reg said that this is a Tony Abbott Captain s Call!!! 5 Vocational Service Vocational Visit Richardson Harley Davidson We have booked a Vocational Visit to Richardsons Harley Davidson located at 468 Westbury Road, Prospect Vale. The date is Tuesday 18 th September and the time is 5:30 for 6.00pm The plan is to arrive, look at the menu, make your choice and then we will have a conducted tour of RICHARDSON S HARLEY DAVIDSON. The owner of Richardson s Harley Davidson, Simon Hrycyszyn will take us on a tour of the facility which will include their fully equipped service department and the Harley Davidson Museum which is one of the few in the world. The collection starts with a 1900 s A6 Flannery-Gallion Co pushbike and includes a 1940 Ex-Army Indian Scout and replica garage setout. After the tour of the facility we will sit down and enjoy the fellowship with our meal. The Rotary Club of West Tamar will also be joining us for this visit. John Dare A man was flying from Seattle to San Francisco. Unexpectedly, the plane stopped in Sacramento along the way. The flight attendant explained that there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted to get off the aircraft, the plane would reboard in 50 minutes. Everybody got off the plane except one gentleman who was blind. The man had noticed him as he walked by and could tell the gentleman was blind because his seeing-eye dog lay quietly underneath the seats in front of him throughout the entire flight. He could also tell he had flown this very flight before because the pilot approached him, and calling him by name, said, "Bill, we're in Sacramento for almost an hour. Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?" The blind man replied, "No thanks, but maybe my dog would like to stretch his legs." Picture this: All the people in the gate area came to a complete standstill when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with a seeing-eye dog. The pilot was even wearing sunglasses. People scattered. They not only tried to change planes, but they were trying to change airlines! Remember... things aren't always as they appear.

"In the Solomon Islands it is quite difficult to access a comfortable bra. Some of the second hand shops sell bras but mostly women have to buy their bras from the Chinese Trade Stores. These bras have some problems; they come in smaller sizes, are made of nylon and perish quickly in tropical conditions. You cannot buy maternity bras or mastectomy bras in the country. For the women to be given free bras is an unbelievable experience for all of them. Women feel a tremendous obligation to meet the needs of their families, and so for any woman in the village to spend money buying a bra for herself can almost be seen as an unforgivable sin. The priority for women's spending is food and education needs of children." - Rose Wale, 2012, Report of Bra Distribution, Solomon Islands. The situation described above is common in many countries. Women appreciate the common dignity of a bra for business or social occasions. Bras control breast swing when women bend to garden or cook at ground level. In humid climates rashes, fungal infections and abscesses occur between the breast and the chest wall. Bras help by allowing air circulation. Nursing mums everywhere leak, and bras allow the dignity of a dry shirt, and the comfort of support. A thrush rash on a mother's skin may spread to her baby's mouth, and then back into the breast itself. A mastectomy bra offers privacy about the problem. Since 2005, Uplift, with assistance from Intimo and Rotary Australia World Community Service, has sent over a million bras wherever women have requested them. Uplift tries to ensure they get to the women who need them without compromising their dignity. We have sent bras to Fiji, PNG, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Philippines, Bali, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Botswana, Uganda and Paksitan, the Northern Territory and the Kimberley regions in Australia. Uplift Project became a registered charity on 22/4/2015. What Do We Want? Size 8-16, A-DD cup ( / ) in good condition, including crop top styles. Size 18+, A-DD cup ( 42+ / 105+ ) Nursing bras including crop tops, ANY condition will do. If it will catch a leak it is better than nothing, which is the alternative. Re-useable nursing pads are also appreciated. E cup plus, ANY size Likely to be the only properly fitting bras that a woman gets in her life. Mastectomy Bras and Breast Forms (prostheses) Like gold. If possible please send the box with the breast form/prosthesis, and put the relevant bras under the plastic mould, in the bottom of the box. These will be given to hospitals for distribution. If sending bras only, without breast forms/prostheses, please put a note in the bag/postpack so we don't miss-sort them. Swimwear, any size. Swimwear is great for keeping warm if you are standing in the water fishing with a hand line for a couple of hours. It is also handy for coastal women who dive for cash crops. Many thanks Anne F
