1 Serving the Community since 1985 In Gear R O T A R Y C L U B O F B E A U M A R I S W E E K L Y B U L L E T I N Number September 2017 Presidents Report I made a typo in last week s piece, the Cheltenham Community Centre s annual children s festival is on Saturday 21st October not the 24th. It is held at the Cheltenham Community Centre, 8 Chesterville Rd, Cheltenham, starting at I am sure Chris W will be looking for help with logistics and parking management. If you have not been before, go and have a look and see our club s money in action. Our contribution pays for some of the activities and entertainment, helping to make the day a significant local event. The Music Trivia Quiz was a great success with 60 participants including partners, friends and visiting Rotarians. Thanks to everybody concerned with the production, organisation and management of the evening. As you know we collect stamps and foreign coins, the tins are on the cash table at each meeting. The collected coins have gone off to UNICEF via Hampton Rotary and the Stamps have gone to Carrol Farmer at the Rotary Club of Glen Waverley who is collecting them for the End Trachoma by 2020 campaign. If you have coins or stamps, just put them in the tins and I will make sure they are put to good use. On Friday I went to the launch of the Bayside City Council Plan and the Bayside Community Plan 2025 at a breakfast at Sandringham Yacht Club. The plan addresses the seven domains of liveability: Infrastructure Transport Housing and neighbourhoods Open Space Environment Local economy and activity centres Community health and participation Copies of the plans are available from council offices and libraries. You may have seen reports during the week about the rapid spread of "super malaria" in South East Asia. Scientists are warning that this is an alarming global threat. This dangerous form of the malaria parasite cannot be killed with the main antimalaria drugs.
