Information should be submitted by Sunday. Just in case you have not yet finished all your Christmas Cooking, here is a Christmas Cake recipe to help you. Enjoy!! CHRISTMAS CAKE RECIPE You'll need the following: 1 cup of water 1 cup of sugar 4 large brown eggs 2 cups of dried fruit 1 teaspoon of salt 1 cup brown sugar Lemon juice Nuts 1 bottle of whisky Sample the whisky to check for quality. Take a large bowl. Check the whisky again. To be sure it's the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer, beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar and beat again. Make sure the whisky is still OK. Cry another tup. Tune up the mixer. Beat two leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Mix on the turner. If the fired druit gets stuck in the beaterers, pry it goose with a drewscriver. Sample the whisky to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Who cares? Check the whisky. Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Spoon the sugar or something. Whatever you can find. Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Throw the bowl out of the window. Check the whisky again and go to bed.

3 Rotary Charity Sail Day Tuesday 7 th February, 2012 The Sail Day committee of the Rotary Club of Hobart has again secured the Windeward Bound as a part of the fleet. This means that we are in a position to invite our fellow Rotarians to join us for a great day out on the water. It is a day which is always enjoyed and for those passengers on board Windeward Bound, we have planned some fun activities for even greater enjoyment. FROM PRESIDENT ANDREW It is hard to believe it is Christmas already. I would like to thank all members for their continuing support for the clubs activities throughout the year. It is pleasing to report that after a successful Craft Fair, we will be in a position to deliver on all the projects the respective committees identified for our support this year. Printed later in the Bulletin, is a letter of thanks, to the Club, from Kerry Lamb, one of the students working with Anais Pitalier at Tony Smibert s Gallery. I think this is an indication that the continued growth of the activities we should continue to undertake as part of the TCF each year. 4 INFORMATION FROM DIRECTORS VOCATIONAL SERVICE VOCATIONAL VISIT TUESDAY 17 TH JANUARY Visit to Bandsema s Tomato Farm at Turners Beach Tour of the Farm will be at 6.30p.m., which would take approximately an hour and a half. Then possibly to the Forth Hotel for a meal. The farm is owned and operated by Jillian and Anthony Bandsema Jillian is our current Vocational Student of the Year; Anthony spoke to our Club a while ago, as a Nuffield Scholar. Partners and guests are invited to attend this evening. An indication is required tonight from Club members of numbers that would possibly be attending, and if we should organise a bus (or car pool). (Firm numbers would be required by 10 th January) It is intended that we meet at the Bush Inn at 5.15p.m., and at ETC (Elizabeth Town) at 5.30p.m TERTIARY SCHOLARSHIP Written applications outlining academic record, intended study programme and other relevant information, should be forwarded to Vocational Service Director PP Peter Griffin, by Friday 20 th January, If Rotarians know of anyone that will be commencing Tertiary education next year, please encourage them to apply for this Scholarship. FIREHOUSE TRAINING SESSION At a training session in the fire station, the team was assembled around the kitchen table. The training officer was discussing the behavior of fire: "You pull up to a house and notice puffs of smoke coming from the eaves, blackened out windows and little or no visible flame. What does this tell you?" he asked. Expecting to hear that the house is in a possible back draft situation, a condition very dangerous to fire fighters, he instead heard from one quick wit:- "You got the right place." 5 INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP OF CRICKETING ROTARIANS Hello Fellow Rotarians, The long awaited beginning for the Tasmanian Chapter of the International Fellowship of Cricketing Rotarians is about to happen. A Tour for 2012 is being organised, beginning on 9 th February. It is now our wish to host the first Tasmanian Rotary Cricket Tour, which will also include Golf which will be played at the Marysville Golf Club. The Agenda will look like this----- Arrive Melbourne on Thursday 9 th February with the Tour Group welcomed at the Rotary Club of Yea. Friday 10 th Touring and sightseeing of local attractions with an evening Dinner at local restaurant (allow $40/$50 pp.) Saturday 11 th Cricket to be played at the Hume and Hovell Cricket Ground, Strath Creek. Golf as above Dinner and entertainment in the Pavilion Café, Bar & Gallery Cricket Party will be accommodated in the "Not Out Inn" at the Ground, (own sleeping bag & towel), some may prefer home hosting. Golfers home hosted by Yea Rotarians. Sunday 12 th Assemble for final Luncheon at the Hume and Hovell Cricket Ground Allow costings to be approximate as follows--- Rotary Club of Yea say $20 Accommodation for 3 nights; $40 per night incl c'tl breakfast. Saturday evening two course dinner, allow $40 pp Golf green fees, allow $20 Cricket green fees, including luncheon $65 (partners $25 ) Sunday Luncheon allow $25. You will find this to be a close estimate. If there is any Rotarian interested in this Fellowship, contact Secretary Roy for more information. LEARN TO SWIM Please note the following dates for the Learn-to-Swim programme for January Registration Day: Thursday 5 th January (time to be confirmed, but probably from around 10.00a.m.) Programme: The Learn-to-Swim programme will run from Monday 9 th January through until Friday 20 th January, 2012 For more details, please contact PP Gayle Gerrard or Did you know that according to the song, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", Santa has twelve reindeer? Sure, in the introduction it goes "There's Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen..." That makes eight reindeer. Then there's Rudolph, of course, so that makes nine. Then there's Olive. You know, "Olive the other reindeer used to laugh..." That makes ten. The eleventh is Howe. You know, "Then Howe the reindeer loved him..." Eleven reindeer. Oh, and number 12? That's Andy! "Andy shouted out with glee." The proof is in the song! INNER WHEEL JANUARY MEETING The January Meeting will be held on Wednesday 25 th January, and will be held at Lake Huntsman. This will be a BBQ and will be a mixed night. Letter from Kerry Lamb (grateful artist & teacher) Two young boys were spending the night at their grandparents the week before Christmas. At bedtime, the two boys knelt beside their beds to say their prayers when the youngest one began praying at the top of his lungs. "I PRAY FOR A NEW BICYCLE! AND AN XBOX 360! AND I PRAY FOR THE NEW IRON MAN COMIC BOOK!" His older brother leaned over and nudged the younger brother and said, "Why are you shouting your prayers? God isn't deaf." To which the little brother replied, "No, but Grandma is!" COMMUNITY CLUB ELECTIONS NEWS SPANISH GUITARIST Friday 13 th January Andrew Veivers a well known Spanish Guitarist will be performing 8.00p.m., Gallery 9, Deloraine on Friday 13 th January Internationally acclaimed, Andrew draws on a wide range of musical influences to evoke the sensual and mesmerising sounds of the Spanish Guitar in all its guises. Some insist on a shirt; others a pair of socks, and the argument always ends in a tie.
