This year we are having a combined night on the Saturday in the auditorium starting from 6.30pm. It is not so much an opening night but a night when exhibitors and Rotarians can get together, celebrate with the award winners and have a delicious two course meal, provided by Matsons Catering, with two glasses of wine. The TCF is paying half the cost of the meal and the two glasses of wine are being provided by Brown Brothers. The cost to attend is $25 per head and you can book on-line by going to: Given the subsidy involved, only exhibitors, their staff, sponsors and Rotarians and their spouses can attend. Note that whilst there are 242 exhibitors, many come with assistants, so the 140 places could be popular. We would love to see everyone at the dinner, but the capacity of the auditorium is limited. INNER WHEEL July Meeting Information Changeover The July Inner Wheel Meeting will be held on Wednesday 27 th at the British Hotel, 6.00 for 6.30p.m. This will be their Changeover Dinner. Winter Fire is happening again at the Showgrounds in Deloraine after the fantastic success last year Winter Fire (Community event of the year) will be on Saturday August 27 th, 2016 Brilliant Fireworks, Huge bonfire, Lantern parade, Live music, Poetry, Warm yourself around the firedrums, Drumming, Great local food. Sparklers, Marshmallows, Hot chocolate, Good coffee. All happening due to the efforts of local community groups, local businesses and local Community Bank. 5 District information Fiona and I attended the Food Plant Solution Dinner and Art Auction on Friday night. Food Plant Solutions is a Rotary Action Group (RAG) Rotarian Action Groups conduct international service projects that further the Object of Rotary. In February 2011, Rotary International officially recognised the Food Plant Solutions Rotarian Action Group. Food Plant Solutions is one of only 25 such groups recognised by Rotary International. Food Plant Solutions now have programmes in 30 countries and has it s birth through the work of Bruce French and his database of over 27,500 edible plants and Rotarian Buz Green of Devonport North. I encourage you to take a look at their website:- We are now at the end of Changeover Season and clubs are settling into the new year. Fiona and I are about to commence the visits which is an exciting time for us as we see the plans of Rotarians and clubs throughout the District. I would love to share these through the E News so please keep me informed. DG Gerard FOUNDATION 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY 100 years ago at the 1917 Convention, Arch Klumph proposed an endowment fund for the purpose of doing good in the world. This was commenced with $26.50 being the original amount set aside. In 1928, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation. We will celebrate this centenary during the year with our Foundation Chair PDG James Wilcox considering options on how we do this. It is hoped that Rotarians will consider a personal donation to the Foundation of $26.50 in this anniversary year. The Safe Water project for a village in Nepal, funded with the assistance of a global grant has been completed and once all the reports are finalised we will be in a position to activate the Gama Probe project on the North West Coast, put forward by Devonport North. And of course there is Polio Plus This 31 year effort to rid the world of Polio is nearing fruition. There have been only 17 new cases this year. It is very possible that in DGE Tony s year he will be able to proudly state that there have been no new infections. What an amazing humanitarian feat this will be. Committee information Vocational Service News from Tertiary Scholarship Recipient.... Tracey McHugh Hi, My name is Tracey McHugh and I was very fortunate to be chosen as a joint recipient of the Deloraine Rotary Club university scholarship for I am just writing to again say thank you and let you know how I have been going. I completed four units in semester one, which I really enjoyed. It was hard work mostly because of the time I have to spend on campus (and travelling!) and then looking after my family, it means any spare time is study time. However, my hard work paid off and I received one Distinction and three High Distinctions. I start my four semester two units next week. In terms of university requirements, your money has contributed to a lot of text books, a lab coat and glasses, stationary, laboratory prac books and student fees. My course requires my attendance on campus in Launceston five days a week so your money has also gone towards a lot of petrol and a new set of tyres! It has also helped out with after school and vacation care for my two boys. As I do not get AUSTUDY the money from Rotary has been such a wonderful help and it has meant that I can concentrate on my studies. Thanks again, Tracey McHugh NOTICE RE MEETINGS..... Please make a note that on the second Tuesday of each month (Board Meeting nights), regular Dinner Meetings will be at the Rotary Pavilion. Caterers on these nights will need to be advised of numbers on the Friday prior (they will not be able to be as flexible as the Bush Inn and numbers need to be accurate!!). Therefore once a month you will need to make sure that your apologies, guests etc are advised to PP Ann earlier than usual. Please keep a watch for information in the Bulletin with regards to this.
