Box 85, Deloraine 7304 / ) WEEKLY BULLETIN A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck central Italy early Wednesday, killing more than 240 people and trapping an unknown number beneath rubble. Tremors were felt as far away as Rome, 100kms southwest of the quake s epicentre. International disaster relief agency and Rotary International project partner ShelterBox is sending a response team from its headquarters in the United Kingdom to the remote mountainous area of Italy where the destruction is most severe. Families and individuals made homeless by the disaster needing emergency shelter, ShelterBox will send tents and other equipment from its locations in Italy and other sites across Europe. The most urgent need is for tents and relief supplies for the hospital of Rieti, where most of the patients from the destroyed hospital in Amatrice were taken. Who is Eligible? Professional Development Exchange participants should be: Between the ages of 25 and 40 Be fully employed with at least two years of work experience in their chosen field Be personable, articulate, cooperative, motivated team players, and enthusiastic about their professions. Team members cannot be the spouse/partner, a lineal descendant or a spouse/partner of a lineal descendant of a Rotarian. Avenues of Service Citation for individual Rotarians PP Annette Viney Purpose: Recognising that the strength of the Rotary ideal is founded on the service carried out by club members worldwide, this citation programme provides a means for Rotary Clubs to personally recognise a member of the club for outstanding efforts in the five Avenues of Service. The citation commends the service carried out by an individual Rotarian in the club, thereby reinforcing the importance which Rotary places on the personal involvement of each club member in Rotary service activities. Selection Process: The method of selection is to be determined by the Club President. Club Presidents may wish to appoint a special committee to select a nominee, or ask their Board of Directors to carry out this responsibility. Club nominations are to be submitted by the Club President to Rotary International, with an information copy to the District Governor. Eligibility: An individual must have consistently demonstrated support of the Object of Rotary through participation in service activities in each of the five Avenues of Service: Club, Vocational, Community, International and Youth. An individual may only receive this award once. The nominee must be an active Rotarian in good standing. Rotarians who are ineligible: - Current Club Presidents - Current, incoming and immediate Past District Governors - Current, incoming and past RI Directors Only one nominee is eligible per Club per Rotary year

On Saturday 4 th March, 2017 the Club will be celebrating its 60 th Birthday, at Rotary Pavilion. This will be a special evening with Matson Catering, providing a fabulous dinner. Community Service Rotary Park:- The Community Service Committee has decided to pay for a table and seats, to be erected at the BBQ at Rotary Park, and the Council will replace the BBQ table already at the Park. Tasmanian Craft Fair It is only just over two months to the TCF!! While many of you may not have been giving it much thought, other than listening to the occasional report from the Director, much has been happening, and will continue to happen at a fast rate! Now is the time to be thinking about what assistance you can give so start talking to your family, neighbours and friends to see if they are willing to assist us. Volunteers will be required to assist with manning the gate, maybe even to help at working bees. Over the coming weeks lists will start to circulate please be prepared to advise when you can help (and to add other names!!)

(Please note details are subject to change) Tasmanian Craft Fair No Rotary Meeting transferred to Monday 7 th Club Annual General Meeting (Election of 2016/17 Board) MARCH/APRIL Friday 31 st March to Sunday 2 nd April District Conference, Smithton District information From the District Governor Our club visits continued with a trip to Tasman Peninsula who continually prove themselves to be a great asset to their community; onto Brighton where I had the absolute pleasure of inducting two new members and then to George Town who also continue to amaze with the amount of service their club participates in. Once again warmly welcomed and great fun. Are you following Posties for Prostates? Like their page Postie Bikes for Prostate-riding little red bikes for Prostate Cancer to follow the journey. Another great project initiated by Kim Smith of the Rotary Club of Sullivans Cove is the DVD L1 Road Rules initiative. The DVD assists those with non-fluent English or have literacy issues to learn and understand the road rules. The most important thing about this DVD and the use of the butchers paper road design is that it addresses the 4 main building blocks of learning: Auditory - Visual - Written - and Kinaesthetic This is achieved through the video footage from the driver s perspective of the roads, the signage, intersections, road markings, with written and voice over instructions, as well as highlighted, arrowed and marked areas that outline the basic road rules. I will put more details of the program into next week s message stick. DG Gerard BUILDING FUTURE LEADERS Please note that Module 1 North/North West has now been deferred to Sunday October 9 th. Still at the same venue - Rotary Pavilion, Alveston Drive Deloraine, 9.30am for 10.00am start and finish 3.15pm. Presidents are asked to please encourage attendance of all Rotarians with less than 3 years in Rotary and anyone else who they think will benefit regardless of Rotary experience. We have had Rotarians with 20+ years attend some of the modules to date and feedback has been very positive proving that you are never too old to learn something new.
