2 CIVICA 2011 NATIONAL USER CONFERENCE CONVENOR S FOREWORD As Convenor of the 2011 Civica National User Conference and on behalf of the NSW Northern User Group Organising Committee, I am looking forward to welcoming everyone to the beautiful Hunter Valley in October. This year our programme features sessions on the latest product developments across the Authority Enterprise Software Suite for Local Government with particular focus on the latest release available in Authority Version 6.5, long term planning and reporting and strategic asset management. Presentations and workshops will include product demonstrations and tips for enhancing your applications. Unfortunately disasters do happen, be it a natural disaster, fire or equipment failure. As a result of recent events both in Australia and Internationally many authorities have drawn on their disaster plans and reevaluated for the future. With this in mind, we will kick off the conference sessions with guest speaker Peter Baines, who is one of Australia s most experienced disaster management specialists. During his presentation, Peter will draw on his expertise in managing responses to disasters, providing insights into the management of events such as the Bali bombings, the Waterfall train disaster and the Boxing Day tsunami in Thailand. Peter s session will be followed by a panel discussion, where your peers will discuss their experiences in dealing with disasters the recovery, the impact on the community, staff and the future. A number of case studies will be delivered at the Conference by representatives from Councils throughout Australia and New Zealand. These presentations will offer highly valuable insights into the experiences and challenges faced by other local government practitioners and we thank and acknowledge the contribution of these speakers to the Conference. This year we have added specialised Executive Management Systems sessions to the programme. For those customers interested in the Authority Business Intelligence, Authority Performance Manager and Long Term Planning applications, these sessions will commence on Tuesday afternoon and will run all day on Wednesday. Of course, all delegates are welcome to join these sessions, and full details are provided within the programme. Likewise, the Conference sessions on Monday and Tuesday, together with the social activities are open to all. The Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley offers superior accommodation options, which include hotel style rooms and 2 bedroom villas, and this year delegates will have the option of selecting the style that best suits their needs. 3 ABOUT THE VENUE The Conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley, located just two hours north of Sydney in the spectacular wine region.
