2 OVERVIEW DEVON 50 HISTORY AND CONCEPT Devn 50, a Pennsylvania trp frm Devn, PA, built a cabin n a plt f land nw Camp Jarvis in the early 1900s that they rent ut t visiting trps thrughut the year. This has been a traditin with Trp 189 fr well ver 10 years. Much scuting histry frm the Valley Frge area is n the walls f their cabin. They have a wd-burning stve fr heat and a kitchenette t prep meals. There is electricity and in the past we have brught a prjectr and laptp fr an evening mvie. There will be tw hikes n Saturday. The first and secnd year scuts will hike the histrical Valley Frge area and the third year and beynd scuts will hike Philadelphia. BASE CAMP AND HIKES Our base camp at Devn 50 is apprx 15 min away frm ur hiking event at Valley Frge Natinal Park and 40 min away the city f Philadelphia. VALLEY FORGE HIKE All scuts ging n this camput the first and secnd years will take part in a 10-mile r mre hike thrugh histric Valley Frge using map and cmpass. The first year hikers will learn navigatin skills alng the way while experiencing immersin in the histry f General Gerge Washingtn s Cntinental Army. With a questin and answer bklet filled ut, each scut can earn a cl medal t be wrn n their scut sash. The nrmal methd is t have a cntingent f at least tw adults drive the grup dwn and back returning t the cabin by 6:00pm r s. This grup is the ne that the grubmaster (bth adult and scut) is picked frm - this ensures a timely meal. All scuts ging n this camput fr the secnd year will lead this 10-mile hike thrugh the battlefield. This gives them practice with navigatin and teaching it, and exercises their leadership skills amng their peers, as well perhaps the mst valuable f lessns this weekend. PHILLY HIKE NO KNIVES. Any scut wh attends this camput fr a 3rd time r mre, will have the ptin f ging n a 7-mile hike thrugh the city f Philadelphia. This, t, will entail immersin in histric sites and learning cultural histry and pp histry, nt t mentin sme great eats. The nrmal methd is t have a cntingent f at least tw adults drive the grup dwn and back returning t the cabin by 7:00pm r s. This trip des require the scut t bring funds fr fd and entry int select attractins as these are nt prvided by the trp. NO KNIVES.

4 PROJECTED COSTS: TRIP COORDINATING INFORMATION -- Philly Only - Apprximately $55-65 dllars --$10-15 dllars fr Friday dinner (if they are ging t eat n the rad) --Parking in Philly - $5 (1/4 f $20 per car) --$20 n hand t pay fr yur wn lunch and suvenirs at Reading Market --$10 (apprximate) fr Grub Fee. Actual grub fee cst will be determined by the assigned Philly Patrl grubmaster, Alex Manzenet. SAFETY & EMERGENCY PROCEDURES BUDDY TEAM & YOUTH PROTECTION All Scuts will utilize the buddy system at all times, reprting t their Patrl Leader, Senir Patrl Leader, &/r Scutmaster if they are departing the Trp s immediate area fr any reasn. Nn-Scut yuth participating in Trp activities must be supervised by their parent r guardian. All adults prviding directin supervisin f Scuts (aside frm their wn child(ren)) require current BSA Yuth Prtectin Training fund at TORNADO If yu hear r see a trnad cming, warn thers, & take cver right away If yu're in a building, g t the middle f the lwest level away frm windws (bathrm r clset if pssible) Get under smething sturdy, such as a heavy table, hld n, & stay there until the danger has passed Use yur ther arm & hand t prtect yur head & neck frm debris If there is n building nearby, lie flat in a lw spt & use yur arms/hands t prtect yur head.
