We d ur best t return n time but smetimes things happen** Registratin fr trips thrugh Spring Break will pen n January 19 th Maryland Heights Hike Saturday Jan. 23 rd Registratin ends Jan. 21 st Cme jin us fr a hike up t Maryland Heights, verlking scenic Harper's Ferry, West Virginia this Saturday, January 23rd. With its 300-ft cliff ver the cnfluence f the Ptmac and Shenandah Rivers, Maryland Heights was a key strategic lkut during the U.S. Civil War and tday affrds ne f the regin's best and mst dramatic views. Cst: $10 What t wear: Clthes apprpriate fr the weather (warm jacket, glves, hat, shell), warm ftwear yu can cmfrtably hike in. What t bring: a daypack cntaining ID, 2 water bttles, lunch, sunscreen, rain jacket and any ther layers yu might need When/Where: Meet at Skyline Fitness Center n the Fairfax Campus at 8am. We will drive the trail, hike, eat lunch alng the trail, and return t campus in the late afternn/early evening. Sprt Rck Climbing Gym Trip Friday Jan. 29thFriday Feb. 5th Registratin ends Jan. 28 th Feb. 4 th Want t climb in ne f the premier climbing gyms in the area? We ll be running a van frm the Fairfax Campus t Sprt Rck Alexandria. The cst f the trip includes rentals fr any necessary gear frm ur equipment rm as well as basic climbing instructin and safe belaying frm ur staff. Cst: $10 (includes transprtatin, rentals, and ur knwledgeable staff) +$14 Sprt Rck Student Day Pass t be paid by the participant upn arrival at the gym (bring yur Masn ID). The day pass rate fr nn-student faculty/staff is $18. What t wear: Cmfrtable clthing that yu can easily climb in. What t bring: Water, snacks, Masn ID, climbing shes/harness if yu have them. When/Where: Meet at Skyline Fitness Center n the Fairfax Campus at 6:30pm. We will drive t the gym, climb, and return t campus between 10-10:30 pm. Billy Gat Trail Hike Saturday Feb. 6th Registratin ends Feb. 4 th Cme jin us n a hike alng the cliff tp Billy Gat Trail in Ptmac, Maryland! Just a shrt distance away frm Masn this is a great intrductin t hiking trips with Outdr Adventures and a great way t see the natural beauty just a shrt drive frm campus. The hike has minimal elevatin change (very

2 little up and dwnhill) but is quite rcky and rugged in spts requiring the use f yur hand fr sme scrambles. The hike will be between 5-7 miles depending n the grup s wishes and timing. Be sure t bring yur camera! Wilderness First Aid Saturday Feb. 6- Sunday Feb 7th Registratin ends Feb. 4 th Want t be prepared in a backcuntry emergency? This curse teaches and certifies yu in the basics f Wilderness and Remte First Aid. Yu will learn hw t respnd t cmmn emergencies far frm utside help and with minimal resurces. This is a tw-day, sixteen-hur curse. Yu must attend the curse in its entirety and pass the final written exam in rder t be certified. When/Where: This curse will run frm 8am until 5pm bth days n the Science and Technlgy Campus f Gerge Masn University in Manassas, VA. White Grass Crss Cuntry Ski Day Registratin ends Feb. 18 th Saturday Feb. 20th We ll be heading ut t beautiful West Virginia t explre the 30 miles f trail ffered by White Grass Ski Turing Center. White grass has grmed crss cuntry trails as well as dwnhill trails thrugh the wds. Beginners are welcme since the trip will include a ne hur lessn. Cst: $45 (If yu have yur wn XC skis/bts/ples) This cst includes transprtatin, area use fee, ne hur lessn, and ur knwledgeable trip leaders r

Shenandah Snwshe Trip Saturday Feb. 27th Registratin ends Feb. 25 th Dn t let winter get yu dwn. We re ging t take a snwshe trip t Shenandah Natinal Park. This is a great way t get ut and enjy the wrld arund us even when the snw is flying. Yu dn t need any experience with snwsheing t have fun n this trip. S cme n ut and enjy the winter wnderland with us. N snw? N Prblem. If there isn t any snw we ll ditch the snwshes and g fr a nice scenic hike instead. Adirndack Winter Skills Seminar Registratin ends Feb. 26 th Sat March 5 th Fri March 11 th D yu like adventure? D yu like learning new skills? D yu want t learn hw t be cmfrtable and have fun in cld snwy weather? The Adirndack Winter Skills Seminar is fr yu. This week lng prgram ver Spring Break will include, winter camping, snw sheing, crss cuntry skiing, winter peak bagging and a beginner ice climbing curse!

The 6 millin acre Adirndack Park is the largest park in the cntinental United States and is the wrld s largest state park. This incredible park cntains vast wilderness, mixed use. Itinerary: March 5 th - meet at Skyline n the Fairfax campus at 8am. Lad up the van and hit the rad. Drive t the Adirndacks. We will stp fr lunch n the drive and d dinner at a diner when we arrive in Keene Valley. These meals are nt included. March 6 th Snwshe/ski int ur backcuntry basecamp fr the next few days and start explring. This will be a great pprtunity t start practicing n the XC skis. March 7 th It s summit day! We will snwshe t the tp f New Yrk s highest peak. Munt Marcy, at just ver a mile high, is a great winter summit. Despite its relatively mdest elevatin we will be in a true alpine zne with views fr miles in either directin. March 8 th We will leave ur cmfrtable base camp behind fr a wilder backcuntry site where we will practice the art f winter camping. This will be a great day t learn the savvier side f winter cramp craft. Depending n time and grup enthusiasm we may g fr a classic Adirndack crss cuntry ski tur. March 9 th Ice, ice, baby. This is day ne f ur ice climbing clinic. We will snwshe int the Dgleg Crag near the nrth face f Pitchff Muntain. Here yu will learn the basics f crampn use, ice tls, and the finer pints f vertical ice climbing. March 10 th Day tw f ur ice climbing clinic will give participants mre pprtunity t practice their technique frm the day befre n sme ptentially lnger and steeper rutes. March 11 th Return t campus. Meals n this travel day are nt included. Registratin fr trips after Spring Break will pen n March 14 th Caledn State Park Hike Saturday March 19 th Registratin ends March 18 th We re ging t Caledn State Park fr an easy 6 mile hike thrugh the wds and marshes. Alng the way there will be lts f pprtunity fr birdwatching and checking ut this beautiful area! It s sure t be a nice way t find sme peace in yur crazy cllege schedule.

Great Falls Rck Climbing Saturday March 26 th Registratin ends March 24 th Great Falls ffers sme f the clsest climbing t campus. We welcme all levels f climbers and encurage thse with n experience t cme ut and learn. This is a great area whether it s yur first time climbing utside r yu re a trad master. All necessary climbing equipment is prvided. Cst: $15 What t wear: weather apprpriate clthing that yu can cmfrtably climb in and gd walking r hiking shes (clsed-ted sneakers r bts). What t bring: a daypack cntaining ID, 2 water bttles, lunch, sunscreen, rain jacket and any ther layers yu might need. If yu have yur wn climbing shes, harness, and helmet yu may bring them but they must be inspected and apprved by the trip leader in rder t use n ur trips. When/Where: We will meet at Skyline Fitness Center at 7:45am and drive t Great Falls. We will drive t Great Falls, climb, and return t campus between 3 and 4pm. Big Devils Stairs Hike Saturday March 26th Registratin ends March 24 th We re ging t Shenandah Natinal park t hike a mderate 5.5 mile hike. Get ff the beaten path and explre a little visited grge in the nrthern regin f Shenandah Natinal Park. This is an ut and back hike frm Skyline drive where the first half f the hike is largely dwnhill and the secnd half is uphill back t the van. With great views t the Suth and East dn t miss this pprtunity t get ut and see a new part f the park! Stny Man Mtn Hike Saturday April 2 nd Registratin ends March 31 st We re ging t Shenandah Natinal park t hike fr a mderate 5ish mile hike thrugh the wds. Fllwing the ridge f the Appalachian muntains we ll enjy great views f the valley belw and f Stny Man himself. This hike can be made a little shrter r lnger depending n the desires f the grup. Anchr Building Clinic Registratin ends March 30 th Sat April 2 nd -Sun April 3 rd The first step t being able t climb independently utside is t learn the basics f climbing anchr building. In this tw day curse we will g ver the basics f building tp rpe anchrs, gear placement and the effect f angles n anchr strength. We will als discuss apprpriate anchr equipment and safety cnsideratins. This curse will be taught entirely utside and will g rain r shine. Climbing shes are nice t have but nt required since the fcus f the curse will be anchr building, and nt climbing (but there will be an pprtunity t get a climb r tw in). This is NOT a certificatin curse; rather it is intended t teach the basics f placing gear, building anchrs, and apprpriate knts and materials fr anchring and master pints. Climbing is dangerus and nly yu can decide when yu are ready t climb withut guides r instructrs. Anchrs are nly as gd as yu make them and as gd as the strength f each part f the system. Use gd judgement and seek further prfessinal instructin if needed. This curse will be limited t a maximum f 6 peple. Prir utdr climbing experience is required. Mary s Rck Hike Sunday April 3rd Registratin ends March 31 st Anther classic hike alng the Appalachian Trail t a great viewpint; this classic hike is in Shenandah Natinal Park. This is an easy/mderate hike with rewarding views f the Shenandahs. Cst: $10 What t wear: weather apprpriate clthing and gd walking r hiking shes (clsed-ted sneakers r bts) What t bring: a daypack cntaining ID, 2 water bttles, lunch, sunscreen, rain jacket, glves, warm jacket, and any ther layers yu might need When/Where: Meet at Skyline Fitness Center n the Fairfax Campus at 8am. Bikepacking Overnight C&O Saturday & Sunday April 16 th -17 th Registratin ends April 13 th S what is bikepacking? Simply put, it s backpacking with a bike. Masn Outdr Adventures nw has a small fleet f bikes that have been specially equipped t be able t hld enugh gear fr an ultralight vernight. Bags have been made t fit the frame, handlebars, and seats specifically fr ur bikepacking trips. Put everything yu need int the bags n yur bike, and pedal until yu reach a campsite! We prvide the bikes and the helmets! Yu can bring yur wn bike but it will need t have a way t carry equipment such as racks and panniers, r yur wn bikepacking style setup. This will be an intrductry trip n the C&O Canal t get flks accustmed t this style f ultralight bike turing. Cst: $40 What t wear: weather apprpriate clthing that yu can cmfrtably cycle in fr several hurs and sneakers What t bring: Small daypack yu can ride with* ID Lunch/snacks fr the first day Sunscreen Rain jacket* and any ther layers yu might need. Headlamp r small flashlight

We will g ver equipment and pack up here and then drive ut t the trail. We will spend the day riding and camp fr the evening. We will finish the ride the fllwing mrning and return t campus in the early afternn n Sunday. Hiking Old Rag Saturday April 23 rd Registratin ends April 21 st One f the mst ppular hikes in Virginia, Old Rag is a mderately difficult 5-6 hur hike that ffers spectacular views f the Shenandah Muntains bth at the summit and alng the way. It s a must d fr any Virginia hiker and cvers everything frm shaded frest trails t summit rck scrambling. Cst: $10 What t wear: weather apprpriate clthing and gd walking r hiking shes (clsed-ted sneakers r bts) What t bring: a daypack cntaining ID, 2 water bttles, lunch, sunscreen, rain jacket and any ther layers yu might need When/Where: Meet at Skyline Fitness Center n the Fairfax Campus at 7:30am. We will drive t Old Rag, hike, eat lunch alng the trail, and return t campus arund 5-6pm. Overnight Rck Climbing Annaplis Rck Sat April 23 rd - Sun April 24 th Registratin Clses April 20th Head ut t Maryland with us t have a fun weekend f rck climbing and hiking. Annaplis Rck ffers nice views and fun climbing. Lcated alng the Appalachian Trail; Annaplis Rck requires an easy 1.5 mile apprach hike t get t the climbing. We ll hike in with ur vernight gear and ur climbing equipment and set up camp. We ll then spend the weekend rck climbing and camping. We will return t campus late Sunday afternn r early Sunday evening. This is a great pprtunity t get mre climbing experience and instructin. Cst: $35 with yur wn gear $45 if yu need t rent vernight equipment What t wear: weather apprpriate clthing that yu can cmfrtably climb in and gd walking r hiking shes (clsed-ted sneakers r bts).
