3 PRESIDENT S REPORT Hi everyone. Well Summer has put in an early arrival, and it is only Spring. Hope you are keeping cool wherever you are and whatever you are doing. We are still waiting for people to let us know if you are going to the 25th party, as usual we need numbers so we can let the caterers know. You can either speak to Tiena,or see one of us at the branch on Wednesday nights. $30 per head. Also if you are due for a badge, please contact us, as Michelle has to order them in time for them to get back to us. Numbers have been down at the branch recently, which is a bit disappointing, so if you have a problem with the way the club is being run, PLEASE, PLEASE come and discuss it with us. Or if you don't want to do it in person, then drop a letter on the table or something, we cannot fix a problem we might have, if we are not made aware of it. If numbers keep dropping, we might have to think about dropping the amount of meat trays we get, the branch cannot afford to keep paying for them. We are coming up soon for our AGM, in a short few months, so if you would like to get involved with the running of the branch, put your name down. The current committee, plus Secretary, Treasurer and myself as President, have held these positions for the past 3 years. I have enjoyed my position very much. We are a great branch, and it would be very sad if there was no-one to take the reins, or maybe I could say handlebars, to steer us along. Thanks to everyone who comes all the time and keeps us going. Cheers for now, from Lyndell (Storm) Ward. #39365 SECRETARY S REPORT I would just like to remind everyone that our General Meeting is held on the 1st Wednesday of every month. If you have anything you wish to discuss please have your say at the General Business section of the meeting. We will address your complaints, problems, suggestions or anything else you wish to mention, at this time. Lots of good rides coming up so keep watch on the website and ride calendar. Also preparations are under way for the 25th Anniversary Celebrations so keep the date clear. If your attending please let Tiena or the committee know as filling fast. Till next month. Thanks Niecey #53187 Hello Members, Editors Report Thanks for the stories and pics been sent to me by members. Great to see so many enjoying the rides. 7 Maleny Classic For our Father s day Ride,Poss & Pew led us through the hills to the Maleny Classic on Witta Rd. Brenden, Skinknee & Sweetpea, Ron, Loosewheel, & Peta & myself headed through Woodford up the Maleny Stanley Rv Rd through Reeseville Rd - it was a glorious day for a ride. The Classic was an interesting collection of cars, bikes, wagons & vans. While we were there Don & his sons turned up for a look so it was good to catch up with a coffee. We then left the Classic & headed to the Kenilworth Pub for lunch-it was pretty busy but we managed to get some lunch. Loose wheel led the way home via Obi Obi parting company at Montville turnoff. Thanks to all who came for the day great company & a great ride!!!! I know it is a bit early but our Christmas Party is at Delaney s Creek Pony Club again this year. 16th December Keep this date free to join us in the Christmas frivolities. Camping is available onsite. More info as we get closer to the date. 13 FRIDAYS TILL CHRISTMAS 7

8 Ulysses Annual Memorial Ride Sunday the 10 th September was our Annual Memorial Ride to the Somerset Gardens. We gathered at BP North and rode straight to the Gardens. It was wonderful to see all the bikes rolling into the Spit, the attendence as usual was fantastic. The service was lovely and everyone paid their respects to those that had ridden on. It was nice to catch up with friends that we hadn t seen for a while. Thanks must go to Ray & his team of helpers that maintain the gardens =they were absolutely beautiful. It was terrific to see so many members attend from the different Branch s. ********** 8

9 Redcliffe Odyssey On Friday Night a group of us, Deb & Barry, Davo, Big Pete & Peta & I headed up to Blackbutt for the Redcliffe Odyssey. It was good to have a night camping and it was great to catch up with a few drinks and steak sandwich thanks to Barry & Deb.!!! Numbers were a bit low but started to pick up at lunchtime. Poss & Pew came for a ride along with Barra & XT. Lunch was a sausage sizzle followed by the Ulympics. Winners for the day were Lockyer and Gold Coast took out the Wooden Spoon. It was a bloody hot day but we still had fun with the games. Thanks to Redcliffe and to all that turned up for the Day!!!! FATHERS DAY RIDE Well hello all. Those who didn't join us, (the us, being Poss Pew, Di and Ron, Brenden, June and Peta, Deb, and me. But gulp, I have to start from the end of our journey. I led us back from Kenilworth Pub, via the Obi Obi road, thru Mapleton, and then I headed down to Landsborough at the Maleny Landsborough Road. I turned left and I directed them all to go right to Cairncross Park Road...Help, I soon realised they should have come left with me. Yikes,...I am so sorry all. Bur what a great ride, the best being the Reesville Road and the Howell Lookout (you know Thurston Howell...Gilligans Island...that's what Poss said it was named after... :) ). The motor show at Witta Show grounds was well worth the visit...and who did we run into but Donny and his two sons... And of course the Kenilworth Pub for lunch...you seem to able to rely on them for a good feed and service. Thanks Poss...had a little trouble as far as keeping together...but we all got to Witta, albeit at two different times...all the fun, sin't it!!!! Thanks Poss and June for organisation of the day. it was a great day even tho some of us.went the wrong way but ha thats the fun of it we all meet up again. as louise said the moter show was great everyone enjoyed it pub for lunch was very good yes louise ron r.ealise we should of turned left but deb wanted a toilet thanks poss june and everyone for a great day xxxx 9

10 Buderim Ginger Factory & Nutworks On Sunday the 17 th September, Brenden led us to the Buderim Ginger Factory at Yandina. Deb & Barry, Big Pete (finally got his bike going),tom & Kathie, Vicki & Rob, Ron & Sweetpea, Peta & myself & Budgie & Sandra plus a couple of Redcliffe guys all headed up the highway for morning tea. It was a great morning looking around the Ginger factory having a ride on the train & Boat. We then headed across the road to the Nutworks where we could taste many different flavoured macadamias. Some headed off while the rest of us went to lunch at the Aussieworld Pub. It was a nice day with great company!! Brenden did really well leading his first ride, more to come hopefully!! Distinguished Gentleman s Ride On Sunday 24 th September, 500 bikes met at Oliver s Motorcycle to participate in the Distinguished Gentleman s Ride for Prostate Cancer. 12 Black Dog Ride to Tassie 2017 Hi there, As a former student, customer or someone who has expressed an interest in the Motorcycle Accident Management course with First Aid for Motorcyclists, I wonder whether you may be able to help? My very good friend Rod Ward and I are going to Tassie for two weeks in late October this year on the Black Dog Ride. We have formed Team Desiderata (redux) and aim to raise funds for Mental Health First Aid training to help combat depression and suicide. ROD AND I NEED YOUR HELP WITH FUND RAISING. I'd say everyone, or nearly everyone is affected in some way by depression or worse, by suicide. It may not be something we have experienced ourselves but you probably know someone in your family, in your friendship network, amongst your work colleagues, someone you volunteer with or someone in your local community who has been affected. Depression and thoughts of suicide are insidious and isolating. People feel trapped and afraid to reach out for help. But as individuals and as a community we can do so much to help those who silently suffer and one of the best ways is to start a conversation and to listen non-judgementally. A problem shared is a problem halved. Please help the Black Dog Ride raise $200,000 to fund five hundred scholarships for Mental Health First Aid training to support frontline emergency workers. Team Desiderata is trying to contribute to the larger cause by setting our target at $2000. Any amount, no matter how small, cumulatively makes a difference, so please take a moment to help us reach our goal. Much appreciated! Cheers Roger Fance Founder and Principal Instructor Hello to Fellow Ulysses Branch Committee Members and Nat Com Members, After recent discussion about the 2021 AGM proposal the Event Committee has decided not to go ahead with this proposal to be held in Warwick. Feelings are that we may not get the support and help necessary to run AGM after the Lismore 2020 Event. We have decided to look into the 2022 event. Kindest Regards Elaine Wenham, AGM Event Director, #60631 UPCOMING EVENTS 2017 For more info on Rides and Socials contact any of the committee above or check out the Ulysses website 12
